Info/Statistics

Hi everyone

With the recent birth of my DS my husband and I (who are anti-circ) have been criticised by an older family member who is absolutely aghast at our decision not to circ our baby. Her information is totally antiquated (still believes everyone has it done and our DS will be the only boy not done) and thinks everything we have to say is rubbish. Suffice to say I'm looking for some information on the rates of circumcision in Australia and any good material on the reasons why it's not necessary.

So if someone can point me in the right direction that would be wonderful.

I think stats in Australia are something like only 10% of boy bubs get done :thumbsup: shouldn't be too hard to find somthing on it!

You should tell your older relative to get stuffed!! Although I am for circ, it annoys me when I hear people giving unwanted opinions on either way you choose. I don't think you should present with any info, just tell the person that its your desicion, you after all are his mother!!

If you google "circumcision Australia" Im sure you will find loads of information...most of it will be against circumcision as it appears thats the stance most people take on it...medical profession included. Also, maybe check out some of the other threads and chat to MotherNurture as she is a wealth of information on this topic.

Also...Your relative is living in the dark ages! I too dont think you should need to back up your decision with information to present to her...however if you want to it wont be hard to find the info.

Maybe you could suggest that she researches it herself? That way, she can't tell you that everything you have to say is rubbish. If she does do even a small amount of research, she will see that times have changed, medical opinions included and circumcised boys are very much the minority now and if she is so concerned that he will be the odd one out, she ought to be pleased to hear that you are leaving him intact. :cool:

She feels she has to be involved of every process of everyone's lives and has control over everything. Sadly she gets away with it with most people except my DH and I. Phew!
