View Full Version : snugglies and cuddlies
When can bubbies sleep with teddies or snuggly blankets? ( ala Linus from Snoopy)?
DS is 8 months old and his cot if fairly baron of these things - but a few other mums from mums group have meantioned that they have teddies etc in cot.........I wonder if that might help with the 1 handed wrap issue if he had a blankey?? hmmmmmmmmmmm :D .
Dh kept putting a small teddy in ds's cot about a month ago (even though I didn't think it was a good idea....grrrr), but ds has really grown attached to 'Boris the Bear' now.
It's only a small bear with no bits that can come off, so he can't get smothered or choke. I figure it's fine now (much to dh's delight!).
It's probably worth choosing something that your bub can't accidently get wrapped up or smothered in.

My CHN suggested a small teddy or something to take the place of a dummy, but not before 6 months, she said. So I guess as long as your bub is over 6 months and the object is 'safe' then it should be ok.

My daughter has been sleeping with her teddy bear since she was about 6 months old. It is very soft and all in one piece so there's no chance of suffocation. I think an important thing is if they have strong head control its not as much of an issue. :)

Thomas has one cute-huggable-softie dog from Teddy & Friends, they are soft and "safe" just make sure you cut the tag off to avoid the hazard...
Or you can design your own bear at the bear shop, there's one at Castle Hill Shopping Centre lucyp
Linus eh lucyp. How cute is that little boy! Even Sally falls in love with him, a boy with a blanket he he :p

After I stopped wrapping DS at about 6 months (coz he was crawling) I cut his wraps up into little wraps sewed a satin edging on them and gave him those in replace of his wrap. He likes to hold it and sometimes rubs it on his cheek to fall asleep, its also good for when his teething as its comforting and stops him bitting the cot LOL
He also has a beautiful man doll ( a soft bodied velvety dolly) thats all embrodiered (eyes and mouth etc) its really soft and cuddly he loves to snuggle him up close under his chin LOL so sweet.
DS has dustmite allergies so we freeze his dolly overnight to kill all the mites then wash it in really hot water to wash them all away. Its also a good idea to get two of them (what ever it is) as you always need to wash one and you dont want a screaming child on your hands once they get attached to something special.

Orlandomums advice about multiple comfort items is a great one. We had a dozen baby washcloths that DD snuggled with. But now she only wants the 2 with a certain pattern on (!) so we don't have as many back ups as we thought.
6 months old would be a general guide, but it could be earlier or later depending on how mobile bub is. I wouldn't give a cot toy before bub is rolling very well so you can be sure they won't get into trouble with it over their face.
Watch for bits that could come loose, and also long ribbons on toys (recent thread where a bub nearly choked on some ribbons).

I've started wrapping MJ with one arm out in an attempt to stop wrapping and have been giving her her fave stuffed toy - a plush Crush (turtle from Finding Nemo). she cuddles him with her free arm till she falls asleep, and talks to him when she wakes. I heard it helps the transition from wrapping  Now if only I could get rid of the dummy

I can't actually remember when i gave my son his rabbi but i imagine as long as your child can move around it should be safe. It is a great thing for them to have especially for when you go and stay over at peoples houses or when you make the move from cot to bed.

My son takes his Carebears to bed, a diffrent one each night and he has done since he was 8 months old. Its more a worry when they arent in control of the movement, i think anywhere from 6 months on is a "safe" age.
