HI,

I have been given a Amby Nature's Nest Baby Hammock and was wondering if anyone has used one before and what their thoughts were on it.

It has also come without any instructions so would anyone have a copy they could email or post to me please? I would really like to know how it works and how to use it safely instead of going off the past owners hints! As you could imagine!

Thanks :)

Hi,

Im an E.C teacher and when I worked in a nursery for about 16months we had one there and it was amazing! The babies loved it, Im talking newborns to just under 6months depending on the bubs weight. I was so impressed by how easily the fussiest babies would settle once in the hammock (thats what we called it).
So I went and got one when I fell pregnant and I couldnt wait to try it out on DS.

DS hated it, he would cry as soon as he got in it. The more we'd bounce/sway him the worse he'd scream, he'd also throw up alot (he had bad reflux)the hammock only made this worse. So after a week or so I gave up and didnt use it again :(

One piece of advice I can offer is when bub is really little (newborn to 3months) I would take the mattress out and just use it with out it, as bubs love the feeling of the material snuggling them like a cocoon and plus with the mattress in place you have to put something on either side of bub to stop them rolling other wise.

But like I said I looked after heaps of bubs that loved it :) hopefully your little one will too......sorry cant help with instructions as I dont know where mine are.

Im hoping bub no.2 will like it better so I can get my moneys worth LOL :D

p.s with re: to sheets I couldnt find any that fit the hammocks mattress (bassinet sheets were too small) so we would just use normal cot sheets and just fold them to fit, much easier.

I have one too and loved it. My baby didn't sleep more than 20mins during the day until we got one at 4.5 months and slept 1.5 hrs within 2 days. Didn't help with night sleeping though, although I didn't start bringing her into bed with us until she slept in her cot so maybe helped a bit.

We used it as a portacot too - took it everywhere.

I made my own sheet from two pillowcases.

You can buy sheets and mozzie nets on Amby's site but you should be able to compromise.

Mine slept in it until 10 months. Can sleep up to 2 years apparently! (with an extra spring)

It looks like their head is lower when they are lying in it but it isn't. My friends all thought I was weird using one but that's all they had in the hospital. Takes a while for people to accept something out of the norm.

I'll have a look for directions and let you know. Otherwise go to the website and ring the guy - he is really helpful.

The Amby hammock was such a savior for my family! Ella slept in it from about 7 weeks until 7 months. She has reflux and had it quite bad back then. She hardly slept when flat on her back, or on her side. She slept through the night--10 hours!--in the hammock at 3-4 months.

Caution: When bub can pull up to sitting all by himself, stop using the hammock. My baby wanted a bigger bed so badly and was so active she sat up and fell forward out of the hammock. Thank God she wasn't hurt but she could have been. So we bought a cot at 7 months.

Best wishes and yes I recommend the hammock until 6/7 months. I have one for sale if you know anyone who wants it!
