View Full Version : Thinking names yet?

I know it's early days, but has anyone picked their baby names yet???

Have you gone to the names thread yet??? Or have you already chosen a name that you've always liked for Bub???

Told friends & family what names you've picked??? Would you let everyone know on Bubhub or keep it a secret until he/she is born???

It's such a hard decision... I was just wondering if anybody else is as stumped as me?

Do you like traditional/old fashioned names or something more new-age & made up???

It's been a hot topic for discussion amongst me, David, family and friends ever since I told everyone about my pregnancy. I only gave my mother permission to tell my extended family on the weekend and only told my wider group of friends yesterday, but everyone's coming up with names already :p

David & I have been discussing names a lot over the past few weeks however, and have decided on Pandora for a girl.. we're still trying to find boys' names we both like.

I've got a list of a few names, so far top runners are Natalie or Katherine for a girl and Adam or Daniel for a boy (I prefer the traditional names as you can see!) I'm sure they'll probably change before bubs is born as I keep hearing names and adding them onto the list, and just a couple of weeks ago Carrie was front runner for the girls list..! :)

The only thing I find hard is some names I love just dont go with our surname...

I dont mind posting them here but I will be keeping them secret otherwise, had friends pinch my baby names in the past and dont want the risk of it happening again...!

DH and I are not telling anyone (including close family) our names until after the deed is done! But I don't mind sharing with my Bubhub pals......

Lucy Belle for a girl

Nate James for a boy

 Hi How hard is it?.....Well we found out last week that #4 is a boy(boy's names are harder i reckon)and we just can't really agree on anything.I told mum and sister what we do like and my sis goes "oh that is disgusting!!"how rude!I told her I didn't want her opinion, was just letting her know and now I wish I hadn't told her.I wouldn't say that to anyone I just say "oh that's nice" and leave it at that if I don't like it but that's just what she is like.Anyway we don't know what to do as friends are due in Jan and they have picked the same name-what are the chances!!I hope they have a girl so we can use it.We like having names that aren't too diff, but not common. We have Zane Caelen,Airlie Paige and Avalon Zoe and we have finally decided on Nate for a boy(I think)as long as our friends don't have a boy, then we'll have to go back to the drawing board!-Nate Jasper (Jasper is my fav but DH doesn't like it!) We also agreed on Seth but my mum hates it.I think it's better to tell fam once they're born as at least then they keep their opinions more to themselves!

We won't tell any one the names we've picked until bubs is born. We did tell my MIL some fake names just to shut her up though! She hated them both so I keep telling her that's defintely what they are, just to stir her up :devil6:

We like Max Brian and Jane Debra or Kaye Debra. We've found girls names easier to pick than boys.

Everyone has picked such nice names!!! I'm finding it hard to find middle names... I like

ANTON for a boy, but can't use John as a middle name as it has the same 'ON' sound. John is both my Dads & DH's middle name.

STELLA for a girl. It's my grandmother's name (& my middle name). Havn't found a middle name I like or that means something to me yet.

DH has been strangely quiet on the subject... he tends to like weird names. Normal names for everyday objects turned into a christian name... for instance, I was drinking a 'Coke Zero' the other day & he thought ZERO would be a cool boys name!!! Imagine how he would be teased over that, "you're nothing but zero", you're worth zilch etc...(sorry if that is really someones name).

Isn't it funny that people have chosen similar names... I have also chosen Charlotte ( it is really the only name me and DP have decided on) It is hard with the last name, my partners last name is Lowe you would think it would be easy to match to becasue it is so simple.... wrong!! too many names go with and make other words or phrases. We are finding it hard to agree on boys names but I like William Allan James DP thinks it is too long and it probably is but it is our grandfathers names who have all only recently passes away, one only 5 days before my conception, and I think it would be nice for our son to know that his names really mean something to us. What do guys think??? Do you think it is too long??

WeloveHarriet
01-11-2006, 09:33 AM
DD is Harriet Gerrard - Gerrard being DH's middle name, as well as his mother's maiden name.

This baby will have my maiden name - McDonald - as their middle name whether they are a boy or a girl.

Girls names are either Violet or Stella.

Boys names are a little harder - Thomas, John, Quinn or James.

We cannot decide on a boys name, so it had better be a girl!
Can't decide totally on a girls wither - DH will not commit to anything! I like Kiara, Lorissa, Olivia, Joanna & Danica for a girl - My fave is Olivia Grace. For a boy I like Hayden, Lucas, Shaun - but DH doesn't like any of them!! It is gonna take us a while i rekon!

Lovely names!

I'm such a superstitious git, I'm waiting until after the 12 week scan (next tuesday!) before I speculate on the sex or names.

I do have a feeling though that DH and I are going to have a lot of "fun" finding names we agree on - Lucky there's six months:laughing: !

Well I hope we have a girl because I've already used all the boys names for m DS1 and DS2 and we can't really agree on any there are a couple though.

Boys - Joshua or Joseph

Girls - Charlotte, Amelia, Holly or Alanah

For a girls middle name I'd like May after my Nanna who passed away last year and bubs is due the day before her birthday. Boys middle name not sure my other GD was William and I like that.

William Allan James is a lovely name. But if you use up all your favourite names on the 1st, you'll have nothing left for next time... (I sound so male talking about the next already!!!)

Kylie - I LOVE Quinn James for a boy!!! Very nice!!! Violet... I havn't heard that one for soooo long. It has such a nice ring.

Cupcake - How about Gordy?

Love the name CHARLOTTE everyone (work on DF Kristy!!!)

Tanya, I have two middle names so no, I dont think it's too long :)

The only thing that annoys me about it is that bankcards, Medicare and things like that tend to only use my first middle initial..... :(

I have 2 middle names too & get annoyed that alot of places don't use the 2nd one... especially the RTA... that's supposed to be a 'solid' (can't think of a word!!!) form of ID.

I'm not going to tell anyone (besides you guys) our names til after the birth.

We like Talia for a girl or i also like Jessica but DH doesn't. Possibly Rose as a second name. Not sure for a boy yet. I don't mind Dylan. I'm sure we'll change our minds before the birth though.

lol - we have the reverse of that - our dog is called Jess, but now i love the name Jessica for a girl! But the dog is 3yo - so too late to change her name.

I really like Samuel too - but my sisters nickname is Sam - and everybody calls her that, so it would be far to confusing.

we've had a girls' name picked out for years, but boys names we're having a little bit of a harder time. both DP and i have strong cultural backgrounds (i'm german & his is scottish) which are kind of influencing our decision.

anyway... i shall share:

girl: lily (with either grace or charlotte)
boy: angus, nikolaus, william or fergus.

halesdm

We like for a girl,

Charlize

a boy,

Riley

I will probably change my mind a zillion times though.

marlie
03-11-2006, 01:08 PM
For a girl I like Maya - rhymes with liar! - with Rose as the middle-name, same as me and my Gran.

For a boy I like Noah James.

DH is super-different to me, he likes all the trendy names like Conner and Callum, but I don't want anything that is in the top ten list! So far Noah is the only name that we have vaguely agreed on (it wasn't my fav, but all the rest he has HATED!).

I also really like Flynn for a boy.

We have a LOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGG surname, so it has to be a short first-name otherwise Bub will be in Yr 12 before they learn to spell it!

WeloveHarriet
03-11-2006, 02:31 PM

if we have a boy it will be.....

Pheonix (everyone seems to think i'm joking when i say it:laughing: but i think it's a great name!!)

i'm having a really hard time for a girls name, i like Penelopy (sp?)....Penny for short, but DP doesn't like it:rolleyes:

with DD#1 i liked Amilia and DP liked Ella so we combined them to make AMIELLA (sounds like AMY-Ella) i thought i made it up but when i googled it it turned out to be a french name!!

i also like Jessica but DH doesn't. .

my little girl is a jessica and i think its a great name, just work on him, he'll learn to love it.
i like the name charlotte, but so do like 1000 other ppl at the moment so for:
girl i want: Belinda Gail. belinda after belinda Emmett and Gail after my Aunt who passed away from the same cancer as belinda emmett at the same age, and im wanting belinda first because my nan specifically asked me not to name the baby Gail as a first name, not sure why.
and for a boy, Sean Graeme, sean after sean berrigan, he scored an awsome try at the broncos, doggies semi final this year, and i screamed out at the game that i would name the baby sean because of excitement of the game, oh and graeme after my DH's father.
by the way we are hugh bronco's fans, if u couldn't already tell LOL

we're not telling anyone the names we've chosen (except bubhub buddies and my sister of course) until after the baby's born. we don't know the sex either, which is the complete opposite to our first. For my son we found out the sex, picked a name and told everybody, even complete strangers!! :o

Boy: Hamish Vedder (huge Pearl Jam fan)
Girl: Jolene Amelia (Amelia my middle name and my Grandma's name).

These are of course not set in stone and will probably change a million times before bub arrives.

It's spelt Penelope, and IMHO, it's an awful name (and I have the right to criticise here... see my sig). If you ever do decide to go with that name, please call her Penny and not Penelope... Penny is much easier to live with... and much easier to spell !! :)

For a girl Ashleigh, Kasey or Ebony (I still really like Jessica but DH won't budge and now a friend has just named her baby Jessica:( )
