We're going to be moving and so have to end our wonderful 1.5 year relationship with Chloe's carer. I'd like to get her something nice to thank her for being so good with Chloe, but I have no idea what. I think last year at Christmas I went boring and got her chocolates, and all I can think of right now is a gift certificate.
I could get her something for her daycare, something bigger for the kids to play with, but I'd rather get something for her to use and enjoy. I don't know her well though, we talk about Chloe, not her life! Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated.
A friend of mine hung out at the centre and caught a glimpse of what the staff really needed - a coffee plunger and really good coffee. Every day they now have beautiful coffee and are thrilled about it. Maybe there's something your carer really lacks in her workplace? I think it's lovely to give a gift like this to show how much you appreciate their time and effort above and beyond money. :)

Great idea Janet. I'll have a peek round her kitchen this evening. She's just so organised, I can't think of anything that's lacking!!! I should have mentioned that it's a family daycare, so just her and in her home.

Some ideas based on things that we gave our family day care mum - a hamper full of gourmet treats that she would never buy for herself (I put it together myself rather than buying a ready made one - much more economical and better food in it!), a gift voucher for David Jones with instructions to buy a treat for herself, a framed photo of DD1 (to add to her gallery that she kept), and flowers. A friend gives her day care mum gift vouchers to nice restaurants, figuring that this is something that she doesn't normally do for herself.
Good luck - it is such a personal relationship it is hard to know how to thank them isn't it?

Im an E.C teacher and so over the last 6 years or so I have been given some great gifts from thankful parents. The gifts that really meant the most to me are simple personal momentos like a really great photo of your child in a lovely frame engraved with a lovely message :)
I also got a beautiful book about teachers and all the ways they brighten a childs life, I still have that and whenever I read it it always inspires me to keep giving my very best to the kids I teach and care for.
What ever you give Im sure she will appreciate it, good luck on finding something special :)

Stuff from the Body Shop eg soap, bath salt. When one of Thomas;s carer was leaving we gave her Darrel Lea chocolate, card and a DVD.
Hope this helps, MarthaM!
