my poor bubba is suffering from his 1st cold ever, all stuffed up hard to breath, mucky eyes and a temp. i have got a vaporiser, have been using vicks baby baslm, panadol, nurofen, breast milk (feeds and in his eyes).
his temp slowly goes away wen he gets the panadol or nurofen, but them goes back up an hour or so later. it has only gone as hi as 38.8 ... any way, my real question is how long until i should take him to the docs? i know they cant do anything for a cold but if he keeps getten temps i should...??? do you wait 48 hrs??? any helpful ideas would be greatly apreciated by 1 stressed out mumma of 1 sick 9 month old :gloomy:

Hi there!

Big :hugs: to your bubba... It's horrible to see them sick and not able to do much for them....

One thing that I found great for those stuffed up little schnozzes is a (hang on let me check the name of it - lol)... Nyal Junior Saline Nasal Drops - with aspirator.

It helps to relieve blocked noses in newborns and infants and was recommended to me by a friend who is a nurse. You just pop the drops, which is a non-medicated formula, into their nose and wait for a little while and then use the aspirator to remove the mucas.

My ds now knows exactly what I'm doing when I use it and lets me without any hassle (I think he knows it helps him). To get him used to it, I would let him play with the aspirator while I was waiting to show him it wouldn't hurt him. It just makes it so much easier for them to breathe as they can't blow their noses yet.

Hope this helps...

ps. Just make sure that you hold their other nostril while sucking out the snot (excuse the yukky reference), as I didn't know this and it took me ages to figure out why it wasn't working.... You'll be amazed out how much gunk you can get out of there, lol!

If you are worried go to the dr in the morning

Usually my dr wont do much unless it has been 3 days with no improvment...or 48hrs with a really high temp, like 39-40 or higher.

Good luck, hope bub gets better quickly :hugs:

Sorry, got so carried away talking about snot that I forgot to answer your main question...

I would still take your bub to the dr's anyway (even though they can't give him much) but at least they can check for any ear infections too and can prescribe antibiotics. My ds had one and I didn't even know as these can be hard to see signs of...

Hey there!

Try Baby Demazin - this is great when they have a cold. Every time I have needed to use it on my DS I have only needed to give it to him twice and then he has been all better within 24 hours.
If you do try it though - be prepared that he may have a longer then usual sleep either the day you give it to him or the next day. This is mainly due to the fact that the Demazin helps unblock their nose for a while so they can breathe easier and therefore sleep easier....
