View Full Version : How long before conceving again?
How long should I wait to conceive 2nd baby?
I'll try for a VBAC. But how long do I have to wait?
Did you have a VBAC and how long did you wait?

Hi nats,
My VBAC was 26 months after my c-sec, I conceived my 2nd bub when the first was 1 year and 4 or 5 months old.
I think generally, if you want a VBAC, they like the VBAC to be about 18 months after your c-sec. But obs are all different, some will try to tell you that 5 years on, your scar isn't strong enough  , but I have heard that some obs (the pro-vba ones!) that a year or so is fine.
Maybe speak to your GP/OB when you go for your post-natal check, if it's not the answer you want, speak to another heath professional :)
that's positive thanks for responding Phineas. I'd love to hear some more re conceiving for VBAC experiences!!!
Bump in other words...........

We conceived the day before DD turned 1:D So we will have about 21 months in between. They told me a year, but I was never sure if that meant bewtween birth or conception. Keep the stories coming...
We were discussing this at Birthrites today...
Apparently, the way scars heal anywhere in and on the human body, when it gets to the 6 months mark past when you got the scar (including from c/secs) that is as much healing as your body will do with that scar. The scar should be officially 'healed' by 3 months, and improved by the further 3 months after that, and then that is the state it will stay in....does that make sense?
So, with my calculations, when bubs is 3 months old, you can get your groove on and start ttc....if you are that keen
So I would suggest, during those 6 months, to take on a diet which promotes healing, taking zinc and vitamen E supplements etc, to give your scar the best opportunity to be strong.
(I'm not a medical professional tho, so seek further medical advice if you need to  )
