 There seems to be quite a few newbies to the hub lately who also have partners in defence. Maybe we could introduce ourselves again!

My name is Ally and my husband is an ABET in the navy, posted to HMAS Ballarat. We are pregnant with our first baby, after two losses (ectopics) - absolutely stoked! It does however appear that deployments are a natural contraception, as Grant was away for 6 months earlier this year for a deployment to Iraq.

He has been in the navy for 2 and a half years now, and had only just joined when we met. We met in Melbourne when he was at Cerberus (in a pub in the city LOL) and when he was posted to Garden Island, NSW he asked me to move here with him - and I said yes! I dont have any family in Sydney, and have just began making a few friends through Bub Hub, my church and other defence forums.

We are now married (changed our wedding date 4 times due to postings etc) and are thrilled to be expecting our first baby in May/June next year. He is away quite a bit between now and when bub is due, so we are hoping that he can at least be around for the birth.

I cant wait to get to know all you other defence Mums out there!

Good idea, Ally - its good to see some new people, it does get a bit quiet here sometimes.

My DF is in the Army, he is currently 6 weeks into a 6 month deployment to Afghanistan. We were posted to Brisbane earlier this year & DF has been away most of the year pre-deployment training.

He has been in the Army 6 years, we are originally from South Australia. Our first posting was to Townsville, then Singelton now here in Brisbane.

Oh yeah, we have a 10 month old son who keeps me sane & gets me through the tough times with DF away.

Great idea Ally:thumbsup: ,
My name is Kylie, my hubby is currently in the process of changing over from inactive reserves back to Permanent Naval Forces. As some of you may have already read, he discharged in April (little to do with his job and more to do with our relationship, and no it wasn't my idea), couldn't hack civvy life at all (been in 19 years), and is now waiting (impatiently LOL) for the paper pushing types in Canberra to sign off on the forms for him to get back in. Is supposed to be posting as POET on Melbourne when he gets back in:smiliedance: .
We have 5 kids of our own (doh) and he has one to his ex-wife. We will stay here in sunny Greta, at least until DD2 has started school next year, then see were we are at when he gets promoted next. May well try for Canberra or head back to Vic for next posting.
Good luck to all of you who have hubby's away at present. Nice to hear from other people who actually know what that feels like, isn't it:yes:

Hi All,

Glad I found this thread. I am an Army wife and we are currently posted here in Hot and Humid Darwin.

My DH has been in the Army for 11 years and I have been with him for 8 of those.

Our postings have been Townsville (where we met) Canberra and Darwin and at the end of the year we are off to Puckapunnual!

I have a 13month old little girl who is my sanity with DH is away. I find that the easiest way to get through deployments and long stints away is to keep busy. Check out my blog if you are interested in sewing and craft - this is what I do! My DH says that there is always stuff all over the place - but he also knows that if I didn't do it I would be insane.

I also love doing things with my little girl - library, playgroup etc.

Kylie

Hi, my name is Narelle and i live in Darwin with my DP and my 5 and 1/2 year old son, who has ADHD. We have been here for a year now and DP has been in the army for 18months. We have been together for the last 8 years. DP is currently @ pucka til xmas, doing tank training for the brand new tanks we are getting. I love it here and don't ever want to move anywhere else. We are TTC our second, and have been for 4 and a half years, as i have PCOS. I had a miscarriage last xmas. I have been a regular on this site for a while but just haven't really posted on any threads yet, but thought i might introduce myself and say hi to all the other defence ladies out there.

I was wondering where you got to, neesh! Good to see you back again.

Welcome, Emma - Which Corp is your husband with? Did you like it in Darwin? My DF is overseas at the moment but has 2 spend 2 weeks in Darwin when he comes home. I'm hoping to make it up there for a looksy. I've heard its one of those places people either love or hate.

Welcome to you too, rellebelle. I'll ask you the same question - do you like Darwin?

I look forward to chatting to you all more. It seems to go a bit quiet in here sometimes.

Hey Sharvs,

My husband was with 2 CAV whilst he was in Darwin, know he is with School os Armour here at Pucka. he is in Armoured Corp.
I really liked it in Darwin. Once you get used to the heat, its got a really great lifestyle. Took some adjusting to start with, cos im a Sydney girl and love the city, but once I got used to the laid back lifestyle I loved it!! I would say definietly go up and have a look for your self when DF is back in town.

hi sharvs - i LOVE it here in darwin!!! It can be a bit sticky but i love the fact that it's like a big country town, yet it's a city. I am a huge storm freak as well so all the storms that we get, i just about wet myself with excitement!! LOL. I love the fact that most nights in the wet season or buildup, you have to turn up your TV really loud so you can hear it over the noise of the rain on your roof! I'm also a big fishing and camping kind of gal, as that's great to do up here. Darwin sunsets are the best also!
I would also love to be posted to Pucka one day. A girl i worked with is getting posted there with her DP in a couple of weeks. Hopefully that's where our next posting will be! But on the other hand it would be sad to leave here.
Emma , you are right Darwin can be one of those places that you could either love or hate. It can be a bit annoying that we get left off the radar in competitions and television programs. The cost of products are a lot higher because of the freight that it costs to get it up here. People are very laid back, exactly as i was told they would be, but sometimes it get to the point where they are sometimes very lazy, rude and arrogant. The weather is definetly something to get used to, and Cane Toads, yuck!!!! People also go a bit silly in the buildup, people call it 'Mango Madness'. But hey i still wouldn't have it any other way.
