Good morning everyone. I'm not sure if you all have daylight savings but we here down south in victoria do and I'm loving it. :smiliedance:

Uniquey - stock up on the thermals, you'll need them in Canberra. Brrrrr.

Glad you're back Rach. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. We're all extreeeeemely jealous.

Christmas.....hmmm....... I bought a pile of things (sticker book, crafty stuff etc) for ds a couple of weeks ago and put them in the cupboard, but they looked like so much fun he's already used most of them  , so I'm not doing any more shopping for him until the week before Christmas. Having a toddler really brings out the little kid in me.

I made a santa sack for him last year, and will make one for dd this year. First Christmas is such a special one. I might make a ball for the tree for each of them every year too - a bit of a keepsake, or maybe a hanging photo. Anyone crafty got any ideas?

Stephanie settled wonderfully yesterday, hardly heard a squeak out of her. I went out yesterday arvo to play some music and left dh with the kids. :yelclap: She slept the whole time, and ds was well behaved. How wonderful.

wattle- im going to make ball balls for skyla , dp and myself. ive done it before. i used polystyrine balls from spotlight and bought a heap of different colour sequins theb you buy flat head dress maker pins, draw on your design and pin the sequins on  its so effective but very time consuming so Im going to start now- perhaps ill have them done by next christmas:rolleyes:

yay, I just realised that this year I get to be one of those painful people with a pram who bangs everyone on the ankles at the shops during the last minute rush for christmas shopping!!

woo hoo!! :smiliedance:

I've been the victim of it for so many years!!

OMG. Just had the most major poo incident. Three year old poo'd at the playground, then the littlest pooer poo'd all the way home in the car (the scariest thing I'd ever heard). Ended up going all over him, all over the liner in the capsule... everywhere. Had to first get his clothes over his head (yuk) and then give him a bath it was so bad. All over me, too! Meanwhile, the cleaners are hammering on the door wanting to be let in and the three year old is stealing my car keys and trying to give them a wash as well (yes, the remote kind...). Gah! I can't believe we're even considering having a third!!!

Hi All

Uniquey Thanks for your kind offer and that. I think I was just having a vent..... things really havent been so bad with the c section. Infact I now understand the forgetting factor about birth! I had the dissolving stitches which was fortunate for me. Glad to hear that the itches are normal I havent quite got back to the Dr's for my check up with how busy things have been the last two weeks. Hope to get there this week. Still dont feel 100% but I dont think that is c section related more the before factor.... DS turned posterier and seems to have done some damage to my hip. Not to worry all these things take time.

Mrs Potts DS too has taken to occassional days of snacking 50mls or so here and there. I think someone mentioned it could be a growth spurt thing?? I wouldnt worry too much about the weight factor as long as she is putting on weight and not losing. Some babies are just smaller than others and I cant understand this table that says this is whats acceptable and whats not. Despite what some of the CHN think you cant force them to drink when they dont want to....

Wattle Re your colic issues we were recommended to use Infants Friend. Its one of the few that doesnt make them drowsy (despite how tempting it is when its bad... lol) Sometimes we can do everything else and it doesnt work. DS loves the taste which is sorta like licorice and sits there happily fluffing away after. Maybe have a read up and see if it suits you too??

Welcome back Littlepickle glad to hear you had a great time

I went to the target toy sale before we had DS and started my chrissy shopping..... Im glad I resisted that urge to buy a strawberry shortcake for the DD we were told we were having lol.
Im starting to stress out on what to buy all our family though. They seem to think its months away but it is creeping in quickly!

Ive stopped the BFing now completely... sadly. I havent been as sore as I thought I would be luckily. Will do things differently with the next bubba. We are busy trying to start the plans for DS's christening which we would like to have in early January (actually we would have really liked to have already had it  )

Anyhoo got to scoooot boss jnr summons....

Shed! You crack me up! That is definately the best thing about having a pram,....!!! I now have a toddler who stands in the front of the shopping trolley (a la Titanic!) and who pushes anyone who is in our way! With a loud 'Move please'! Kind of an upgrade from the pram pushing and more fun, as people turn around to glare and say something and are confronted with a curly haired 2 yr old! Too funny!

Rach - Welcome back! Glad you had a lovely time,..it seems like you have been gone for ages!

Adele - how did you go with your Dr on the weekend? Did they prescribe some Antidepressants or something? Oh,.and don't go too over the top with Chrissy! Scarlett was the same age as these little ones at her first Christmas, and she slept through the entire thing! Though I do have a funny photo of her with Reindeer Antleers on,..(I made Christmas cards!)

Jasper is such a porker! He has stacked on the weight, and looks like a little buddha with enormous cheeks! He is in CRAWLER nappies!!! What the!?!??!?!?!? They have got the names of the nappies very wrong!!!!

30-10-2006, 11:48
Oh,..Missie_Mack - I have stopped BF'ing too,.....much to my dismay,.. Jasper is just too much of a guts, and he gets cranky when I try and give him the boob,.. so I am giving formula and expressing 2 feeds,..one I give him and the other I stick in the freezer,... so he is at least still getting some benefits,...sigh,.... Boys!

Hiya ladies... WELL, another wonderful night of sleep here... what exactly is going on?! LOL- 3 nights in a row... I bet I just jinxed myself now.

I spent the morning out and about with El... She seems to really love her pram now. I guess she realises that it means that she isnt stuck in the house, so she goes in it without a fuss. We spent probably an hour in a bead shop, I got myself stacked up with beads as I am trying my hand at making beaded jewellery now...
Also when I was in there, I saw these cute little hippy like crochet sandles for bubs... in pink and purple with a little butterfly on them... they tie up around the ankles. So cute, I couldnt resist them. So, now, El has her first pair of shoes :D They only cost $8 too-stoked.

Other than that we cruised into crazy clarks and baught some wrapping paper and some gift tags... and she didnt cry the whole time! She was very well entertained by all the colouful things around her!

Only bad thing so far about today is that we came home to a rather large dead bird in our back yard... I had abit of a poke at it with a stick to see what had happened to it, I think it snapped its neck... But I definatly wasnt moving it. Thats Nat's job!! Poor Birdy.

Anyways, I better go- El is making a few interesting noises from the other room!

Uniquey - will PM you!

:hugs: to those who have stopped b/feeding. My experiences were short lived and unpleasant, but I have no doubt it's hard to stop when it's what you want to do.

Hope all the bubs have been behaving today. I know mine has (so far anyway!).

My 4 day old sore throat has started to turn into something more. I don't have any garlic+horseradish, so I've been dosing up on Vit C and sucking on Strepsils. :fingerscrossed: it's short-lived.

Sorry, did read everything but my brain is mush today.....

Hey guys
well I have missed you all.. I have been busy doing... well ... i can't really say i know what but it must be something.. cause i never find time to check out the forums.

Laylah has decided she wants to be an early developer and has started teething (she isnt even 3 months yet) so that makes for some very fun times as she is always fussy and wont let daddy help settle her at all.. it's always mummy.

Uniquey: It wasnt me at the gympie party.... sorry kinda wish i was there though :)

Hope to spend alittle more time with you all here.

Ahhh what a day!!!!
Riley woke for his morning feed as was not all that interested.. then he went down for a sleep 4 hours later he was still asleep. DH came home an got him out of his bassinet... I tried to feed him he wasn't interested again but managed to force the bottle down his throat. He was not interested in play time at all and was all limp and lethargic.. so off to bed again... 1.5 hours later he wakes crying.. I went and got him he was inconsolable he felt really hot so I took his clothes off and took his temperature.. 38.3..crying: poor little man he was so unhappy so I tried to feed him.. wasn't interested he was so limp.. so I made an appointment at the DRs.. the DR thinks he might have a urinary tract infection or a virus...:crying: my poor little man.. I had to get a uine sample.. what a waiting game that was the I had to catch it mid stream and I thought peeing on a pregancy test was hard.. ha ha.
I gave him some panadol and he seems to be a little better.. but who knows how he will be when it wears off.... I am so worried about him!!!!!:gloomy:

I'm awake!!

I dont want to be awake

Elise is also awake

I dont want her to be awake either!!

We have both been hit with the dreaded Jetlag :banghead: problem is I cant really stop eli from sleeping which means she just wants to be on UK time and sleep during the day and stay awake during the night .. this of course means that I have to do the same, and I am now living a nocturnal life! Actually it kind of brings back memories of the final few weeks before she was born when I just couldnt sleep at night!
Thanks for all the welcome backs! yay!! i was missed!!:hugs: Wow, I cant believe how much has happened since I have been away.. and testimony to the fact that we all talk a lot, we have been given a new thread to contain our multitude of posts!! Yaaaay!:smiliedance:

I wont do personals at the moment, because, I just dont know where to start, but I will be on track again from now I hope!

Christmas shopping ..... I havent even thought about that yet, in fact I kind of almost forgot about Christmas. I dont really know what we are going to get for Elise, Dh and I decided that we will go out seperately to buy her presents and then wrap them so that neither of us knows what the other has bought.. this way it will be more exciting for us when opening her pressies on christmas day. She has had one of her christmas pressies earlier though, its a Fisher Price Papasan sounds of nature swing thing, decided not to wait for christmas to gie it to her.

oooh, I want to go to bed, but Elise is wide awake like a button! so now we are both watching the Freddie Mercury story on ovation .fun!?

Can anyone recommend a good breast pump? I have a avent isis one but I am not having much luck with it at the moment, I am thinking of hiring a medela one from ABA has anyone done this? I am having major supply issies at the moment, with all the travelling etc, it has gotten worse, and I really want to boost my supply so that I can continue to breastfeed. At this stage more than half of her feeds are formula and I just want to start feeding her myself more. I rang the aba and they said that it is possible to do this but that it will be a bit of work to get there..

Anyway, better go for now.. eli is crying.. she is teething!!! Is anyone elses bubs teething? Saliva everywhere, red cheek, fists in the mouth and genereal whinginess!!!:ecomcity:

What a GREAT morning. Stephanie had a feed at 8pm last night and went straight to sleep. Then I went to bed and slept until 6am :smiliedance: I went to check on her at 6.30 and she was just having a big stretch and a smile. What a lucky mummy I am. (Makes me realise how much hard work ds was!)

Rach - I use a medula hand pump and it's great - well as great as a pump can be  . Not sure about the electric ones, I've never used one. I find the manual one is good as I can sit in bed, pump and watch telly at the same time. Ah, I remember the days when I used to do more exciting things in bed..... my goodness how some things change with motherhood. :o

Missie mack, thanks for the Infants friend suggestion. We used it heaps with ds and I still have some. I'll give it a try. I did try with dd but that was when she was about 3 weeks old, but she wasn't at all keen. Definately worth another shot. She's soooo windy. Every time I change her nappy....er.....well.....um.....there plenty of prffft.....pfft....pffffffft... you get the idea. Poor little sausage.

Oh man, such a relief to read this- Im not the only one! Nat discovered a lil tooth comming down in El's mouth too! She has been dribbling heaps-so much that she is permanently in a bib now. She has been chewin on her dummy and I was like "what the hell is going on?!" PLUS she wont go to Nat either. Everytime he takes her, she screams her head off- its getting to the point where I ask him to take her for a few mins while I do something and he refuses. Doesnt want to deal with her crying.

:banghead: ARGH, I need some time to myself aswell you know!!

OH, and bout my first post in this thread... I jinxed myself by talking about the 3 nights in a row of good sleep. She was atrocious last night.

No teeth here yet, thanks for the warning though! I wouldn't have been expecting that yet, far out, our babies are growing up fast.

LP I have the Avent manual pump as well. Its a pain in the neck allright, I seem to have to swivel it around a bit to get the suction right, and I took out the flower shaped thingy on parisakamali's advice and it worked a lot better.

Although I haven't pumped for ages and there is none in the freezer. I think I have psychological issues with this, I really do. I thought I was over them but obviously I am not. Its as though I don't want anyone else to be able to feed him, I dunno. Its a bit weird. Maybe I just need to feel needed? hmmm:detective:

I like the idea of buying separate chrissie presents for bubby! Excellent idea!

Hi Littlepickle

Ive got the Isis hand pump and I was hiring the electric pump from the ABA. I found the electric pump was useful when supply was low as sometimes I would be on it for an hour or over.... I dont think my hands could handle having to pump continuously for that long!! The other thing I found useful was a recipe for lactation cookies from the breastfeeding thread. I thought it was madness but decided it couldnt be all bad if it was cookies :D I was very suprised when it did increase supply.

In my case I got my supply up and then DS decided that he prefered the bottles and started to refuse the booby. So Ive had to give up anyhow. So might be an idea if your going to do it to do it sooner rather than later IYKWIM. I think the electric pump hire was about $15 pw if your a member and we paid a $100 deposit. We had to buy the medela pump attachments also and I think they were about $60ish. They were the same pumps they use in hospital.

Hope this helps and that you have better luck than I did

Ohh Im sucha lucky Mummy- Skyla lept from 9pm to 5am then woke for a bottle- I was too tired so I woke DP up and said I d already been up- which I hadnt:D The my little angel slept till 9.30am- which meant I did too!!:smiliedance:

Ahh I feel so refreshed

To those of you who have teeting bubs- Use SM33 Gel It has a numbing agent and is fa more effective than bongella- Im a dental nurse so I always reconmend the SM33 Gel and Ive never had any complaints- Oh and I also used to work with bubs and small children alot at the surgery so If you ahev any ? just fire away:thumbsup:

Hi Adele,...woo hoo for the big sleep! FYI - teething gels really are not supposed to be used on little babies,..it is not good to numb their mouths at this stage as they have little control over the amount of saliva they produce and it can lead to them choking,......better for them to suck on a cold wet washcloth,..

Re: Breast Pumps,..I bought the Medela Manual one,..as that was the one my lactation consultant suggested,.. and it is great,.... the only prob is that the 'catchment bottle' is not the same as the bottles I use, so you have to transfer the liquid gold! Not a major drama though,.!

Hmmmm... it dosnt numb it much and only numb the area u apply it too as u use it sparingly(sp?)- ive never heard of anyone having a problem with it and also having work in a dental surgery with kids and babies we always reconmend it. Ive never had any dramas with it. My boss used to work at the childrens hospital and he reconmends it also.

Don't worry Shed, it could be a million different things. Here's a link to a teething chart http://www.anbesol.com/baby/chart.asp (except all babies are different. so don't take it as gospel).

3 little kids just came to my door doing trick or treating. Maybe I'm conservative but I reckon that's a bit dangerous these days. They would have only been about 8 years old and not an adult in sight. Oh dear, sometimes I just don't want my little babies to grow up.

Beany
31-10-2006, 19:53
shed: Asher has started to drool like a garden hose, too.

After reading the posts on here, I'm getting scared as well ...

Gummy booby shark is bad enough but a toofy one ...

Alli: your post got me thinking ... My nipples used to retract but since the whole breastfeeding thing, they are permanently "alert". Anyone else get this or is this yet another Beany-freakishness?

Well, today started off lousily. I had a stinking headache that a panadeine forte and a nurofen combined couldn't shift. I *knew* it was because I was tired ... I haven't managed to catch up on the sleep deficit created since the night Asher had a headache. All I wanted was a few hours of sleep ... so Asher decides to wake up at 5am and decide its playtime :banghead:

I fed him to sleep twice. He woke up cooing twice. Eventually, at 8am, with my head pounding audibly, I gave up and got up. Boy oh boy is it hard being chirpy when some swing band has set up residence in your brain! And I had to be chirpy - it's not fair to be grumpy around a chirpy happy baby. Honestly, though, I was at the end of my tether, barely holding the tears back. I had joked with Noodle before he left for work that he should hide the sharp objects or he may return from work a single dad. That joke was beginning to sound less funny ...

He finally decided he was tired enough for a nap at 10:30am. Knowing he would be awake in15 minutes' time wasn't enough of a deterrent to stop me getting into bed too ... and getting out 2 hours later! He slept for two hours! During the day! It's unheard of!

He was happy and alert, my headache was under control so I was happy and alert! Genuinely! Yay! It's like he knew how badly I need the rest, the lovely boy! :hugs:

Noodle came home to a happy baby, cooing and chatting and playing with his significantly happier mother. He took over immediately to let me get something to drink and sit alone for a moment. And now I have dinner waiting for me! This day has certainly got better than I had expected it to this morning!

Sorry to scare you ladies... didn't mean to do that ith the teeth :) Laylah isnt normal i have decidced as it's her top teeth coming through first hehe.... but she is settling down alittle which is nice i bought her a teething ring today and she loves it... so it's saving me having to use any gels or panadol at the moment. (i'm trying to hold out as long as possible) as for the breast feeding... i am still doing it although she does use me to grind her gums sometimes and those are the times i'm tempted to give up!

Littlejoy:hugs: to you and little Riley

Beany I hear ya! I had the same pounding head today and nothing I took would budge it. Thankfully, it's all but gone now, and hope yours has too!

Rach I hired an 'Ameda' electric breast pump. You had the choice of one or two pumps on the one machine and I just got one. It was so much better than pumping away manually as I had previously been doing. I hired it from Brisbane Baby Hire.

Wattle I agree, with all the freaks around these days, I wouldn't have little children trick or treating without their parents supervising, too scarey these days:(

ME Now that everyone has mentioned it, I have definately noticed more dribbling and bubbles coming out of Avalon's mouth. I asked my Mum when I first starting teething and she said at 4 months,so I guess anything's possible. I am LOVING this stage, 2 months onwards. We read to Avalon every night and her attention span is getting longer and longer. She is also making very audible sounds and I don't think it will be too long and she'll be talking. I think she has also realised she has inherited 2 Cats, as she has defiantely started to notice them walking past. Before I know it, the cats will have their tails pulled and a little girl in hot pursuit!

Hi ladies
Ok, so I am finally back, not that I went any where far:o, but it was such a busy month for me, from funeral to weddings, and trying to set a baby routine etc...... so nice of you guys to miss me;) Hope you are all doing well and bubs are settling down nicely.

Beany: glad you are feeling better. Hang in there girl
Uniquey: do you actually show the book to her or just read it, I got Elena a baby touch book to read but she refuses to look at it even though it is brigtly coloured.
wattle: no adult supervision is just wrong:( , even the door to door choclate fund risers ask for adult supervision theses days.

Dribbling: doe not mean teething, apparently it comes around 12 weeks, and does not mean anything significant according to my MCHN.

teething/BFing: I was told by MCHN that the baby gums are very spongy, so they don't bit the breast like a toddler or an adult can, so most people continue BF after teething, I won't beilve it till I see it though.

ME:
Elena has finally started to sleep through the night and lots of cooing and funny noises, she has just found her hand, it is loads of fun to be with her.

My mean spirited boss is retiring at the end of this month, and now I am being tempted to go back to work part time, start of next year, by then I would almost be at the end of my paid leave and I am more likely to get a childcare place at the start of the year than wait till August and hope for a childcare place to go back to work full time. Oh just the thought of not seeing my boss makes work appealing. oh decisions, decisions, decisions,
i hate making them but somebody has to.
on that note I am applying again for the promotion applied for few months ago, considering that my boss won't be interviewing I might get it this time around.
gush I am such a windger, sorry guys.

is anyone else gone back to work or thinking of going soon?

Hi chicks,
Wow, gone for a few weeks and what happens - you talk so much you need a new thread!!! Not sure if anyone noticed as you're so busy chatting  but I've been MIA for a bit.

And you might be wondering why I'm posting a message at 3.45am in the morning?????... well silly me has taken up an after hours job answering phones for a recruitment agency. I get all the calls from factory shift workers calling in sick or looking for work and I have to madly phone around in the middle of the night looking for replacements... really need the money but its day 2 and am now really needing the sleep!!! I'm going to give it a couple of months and see how I go. Hopefully when Caleb starts to sleep through it will be a lot easier.

I must admit I am very jealous of those of you who have babies that sleep through. Every time I read another message stating that you got a nights sleep I can't help but get a bit peeved. Really happy for you but just a bit jealous. I'm still getting up during the night and now with the job, even more. Luckily he's sleeping a little more during the day which means I have to aswell!!! Well, thats always the plan anyway. Bubs comes first so if I find its getting too much I'll quit. It just seemed like a good opportunity that won't come around again..

Anyway, just waiting on a call back so thought I'd stick my head in.

Hi to everyone, sorry I haven't had time to read through the posts - will try to when I can. All is good with me, loving all the smiles. They make up for all the tears

Big hugs to all you yummy mummies :hugs:

Re: Dribble,..I read that babies saliva really comes in about 8-12 weeks,..so doesn't necessarily mean teeth,..... and if you think your baby is unwell and some silly Dr tells you it is teeth,.then get another opinion,. Scarlett started teething at around 5months and had no pain at all! So,.all kids are different..

Re: Sunscreen,....most companies say about 6months,....... but if your baby has excema then be really careful, as sunscreen can cause a flareup,..(Scarlett has excema as a little one),....

S_J-:hugs: Thats ok... I probably just took it the wrong way.. ohh well all is good now:yes:

Beany- Oh your poor head!! I had a migrane that lasted 3 days last week and it was shocking DP had to stay home and look after Skyla becasue I was bed ridden- I dont know how u managed Asher by yourself!! Top effort:hugs:

Hannah- Look waht you did youve sent everyone into a panick haha. Skyla is in 000's-00's now..... shes weighs 5.4kg and is 9 weeks on thursday. It depends on the brand realy. Ive noticed that different stores are bigger or smaller than others. Its quite hard to know if anything will fit!! These days I just buy 00- atleast she can grow into them

Uniquey- Hello!! I was just wondering what you have been reading to Avalon... I started reading to Skyla when I was still preggi hehe. I have a friend who recently had a book published its called "Dragon Light" Skyla seems to like that......

Parisa- I had wondered where you got too. So HELLO!! I hope you get that promotion if you do go back to work

Bella8- I had also wondered where YOU were. Good luck with the new job- I wouldnt cope I need my sleep. Dont stress about the sleeping Even thoug Skyla is a good sleeper now Im sure she will make up for it in another way lol- Ill get mine dont you worry

Well another good nights sleep here.:o Skyla was sound asleep at 11.30pm when I wanted to go to bed but she hadnt been fed for quite a few hours and I knew if I went to bed she would wake me up again. So I woke her, fed her, burped her and put her in the bassinett- Simple straight to sleep:yelclap:

I had another driving lesson yesterday(My second in about 5 days- I hadnt driven in over a year SCARY) My instructor says I have "natural abbility" and is realy impressed with my driving. Only 1 more lesson and he said I should be ready for my test:smiliedance:

I have never driven the commodore before and last night I decide that on the way home from squash with DP & DD I would drive so I could start getting used to the car as its alot bigger. Yeah BIIIIG mistake- DP who is NOT a critical person did nothing but criticise me. "Oh you just did ....... wrong or "you just failed your test" etc.... it wsa when I was pulling into our street that I got realy upset. I came around the corner which is quite sharp and DP grabbed the passanger handle and hung on!! I was doing 20kms FFS... I am the most cautious driver especially with Skyla in the car.

It took me alot to drive with DP in the firt place and I was so nervous. I didnt think he owuld make me feel like an idiot but he suceeded. I have decided Im NEVER driving with him in the car again. So he WONT be going to the pub and getting picked up by me when I get my licenece he can blumin well walk for all I care.

Ive lost all my confidence now:crying:

Oh, Adele, I know exactly what you're talking about. Keep taking those driving lessons, because it's hellish learning to drive with someone you know. I think it's because driving seems so simple when you can actually do it, that you think anyone that can't must be completely simple. You definitely need those professionals on your side! I had the worst time when my dad tried to teach me and he's the most patient person I know! Even worse, I kept getting the giggles, which didn't go down too well!!!

Good luck with the work thing, Parisa. I was stupid enough to actually be working while I was still in hospital! I'm lucky, though, in that I get to work from home. Or maybe a bit unlucky as well, because that means you never really stop working at all. I'm currently searching for a nanny to come in one or two days a week for Teddy as my daughter got so sick when I sent her to daycare from three months. It was awful and she's had three sets of grommets and her adenoids out because of ear infections and so on. It's hard combining work and kids, but I have to. I'd go crazy if I couldn't work anymore.

Who was it who mentioned sunscreen??

EEK, Im taking El camping over Xmas, and shes definatly going to need sunscreen then.. but will only be 4 months! Maybe i'll have to suss out some baby safe ones?

Im so frustrated this morning. I dont know why, but I have woken up in a ****house mood... everything El does leaves me seething... in fact, when Nat finally woke up this morning, I told him I hate being a mum.:gloomy: I dont really... well, maybe sometimes. I just hate not having a spare minute to myself... and the fact that shes joined to my hip 24hrs a day 7 days a week is making me so upset... and often angry.

Not to mention DF and I's 'sex life'... we were sure my drive would return after having El... it did... for maybe a month. Now- Im not interested in having sex with him at all... and I know that really upsets him (aswell as El screaming everytime he takes her, the sadness in his eyes... :( )

argh, whats going on!! :banghead:

Banana Boat make baby sunscreen - it's a roll-on in a little pink tube.

The packaging recommends that it not be used on infants under the age of 4 months (I think) but I asked the munchkin's doctor and he said all baby sunscreens are perfectly safe for all babies and I was given the green light to slip, slop, slap. Well, more a slip, roll, slap. :D

I bought my roll at the local Soul Pattison's chemist in the regular sun care aisle.

If I didn't already know how to drive there is NO WAY on gods green earth that I would let DP anywhere near the car when I am learning.

I love him, I really do, but just the thought of it makes my skin crawl. He wouldn't be able to help himself, he is bossy enough now without having a reason.

He even 'corrects' the way I put away the groceries. Reminds me of that movie "Sleeping with the Enemy".

He can't help himself. I have to tell him to bugger off, regularly.

I should be teaching him anyway. He can't even drive a manual he can only drive an automatic. What a girl. I take the p*ss out of him about that all the time.

Beany

Jessi: When Noodle comes home and plays with Asher, the coos and giggles do lower in volume. Like I told him, the reason he (Asher) doesn't play with him as much is because he doesn't play with him as much - it's circular logic that makes perfect sense in baby world.

The more time they spend with each other, the more comfortable El will become with Nat - she just doesn't recognise him as one of her people yet. She will though. Have you perhaps tried expressing some milk and letting Nat bottle feed her a couple of times?

When she is quiet and you're holding her, get him to come and have a baby-chat with her - lots of high pitched noises and exaggerated facial expressions (happy ones, surprised ones - not scary ones).

He needs to put the effort in. It is easier for the mothers - we give them food and bond with them there and then. We spend all day every day with them. We talk to them or others and they become used to ours voices (not to mention that they got used to that for 9 months inside us). The daddies are on back foot but they can catch up. Just takes time and patience and effort.

Jessi: agree with all beany's suggestions, also get him to bath the baby, and maybe some message, babies are usually happy when bathing.
adele: I am on full licence and still get critecised by DH, hence if its both of us in the car he is driving, I refuse to do so. I won't even park my car in garage if his is already there. so you don't have to drive with DP if you don't want to.
shed:
he is bossy enough now without having a reason. my DH must be from the same club too arrrg

sunscreen: hamilton has a baby version, too 30+spf 4 hour water resistant broad spectrum.

question:what is it with Elena banging her head against my noise, when I am holding her, my noise hurts so bad and her head too cause she cries, does any ther bub does this, i thought she was starting to control her head well but maybe not:confused:

Hello all

Well Chloe is fast asleep and have just caught up on all the posts so...

Wattle - Christening/Baptisms/Naming Ceremonies...I was planning to have Chloe's the week of Christmas as my sister would be home but DH may need an operation at the start of December so have decided to wait until the new year...unfortunately that will mean tht my sister won't be here

Beany - So happy to hear that your lump went away and you 6 week check up sounded like it went really well

Amandaw - Your bub sounds like Chloe...she will be walking before she is crawling

Jessi - :hugs: ...I have moments like that where you just need some time on your own...I am EXTREMELY lucky for that fact that I have my mum really close by so she helps me out...but then those moments are far and few between (is that the right saying)....DH feels the same way..when he gets home from work and talks to Chloe she gets a little upset and most of the time he cannot settle her...it hurts his feelings but he persevere's...plus he talks to her differently then I do...he is very loud and close up in her face (typical man...rough as) and she is not used to it....I try and tell him not to be so loud...but he is a MAN hehe

Uniquey - who do you know in Innisfail??? hehe

Littlejoy - How is Riley?

Adele - how did the Dr appointment go?

Shed - DP wants you to be pregnant hehe....so does mine....STAY AWAY hehe

Noosamum - Thanks for asking how we are doing? We are fine..we were really lucky and did not get much damage so doing really well...I told DH that I am going to get a highlihter next time I read our local paper and mark everytime they mention "Cyclone Larry"...it is beyond a joke...I mean there are lot of people still with tarps on thier rooves etc..but MOVE ON....as you can tell I am not a sympathtic person hehe

Krista001 - I am a big Cloth nappy user.....I LOVE babies in cloth nappies (no offense to anyone) - but Love disposables when we go out and at night

Littlepickle - WELCOME BACK

Hello to Mrs Potts, Jane, Mamaanne, Missi mack, AlliJB and Hannah

About US

Chloe is cruising along nicely. She is wearing 000's but can still fit into majority of 0000's. 3 weeks ago I got her weighed and she was 4.9kg, am taking her next week so will see how she is doing. She seems to grow overnight sometimes it feels like, I just LOVE the rolls in her legs...just too cute.
She is a very dribbly baby....but not worried about teeth as the Child Clinic told me that there saliva glands are starting to work at this age so that is mainly why they turn the dribble taps on.
I am doing really well...like Jessi I am feeling ugly and frumpy...not too worried about my weight but feel like I am dressing like a Nonna with these Bigger sized boobs and bras....am going sometime this month to get my hair coloured etc to make me feel better....DH still loves me so that is the main thing....he has been telling me extra latley cause I went to the local races the other week and got all dressed up and he did not mention it...it really upset me so I told him...now he tells me I look nice all the time....see sometimes they just need reminding

Anyway she just woke up...YAY at least I got to catch up

Bye

Uniquey – I think sunscreen is safe for babies. I got the Cancer council one for toddlers. It says on the tube that nothing has proved one way or the other whether sunscreen does any harm, but basically it’s much better than baby getting burnt. However, not better than keeping bub out of the sun (or covered up) altogether.

Mrsbutterflygirl – DD is still mostly in 000s, though her grosuits are starting to get “springloaded” and a bit tight length-ways. 00s are still way too huge for her though.

Dribbling – definitely doesn’t necessarily mean teeth. As I mentioned, DS didn’t get his first tooth til 14 months, but had been drooling profusely since 3 months. No pain when they did come through either.

Work – at this stage I’ll be going back in February when school goes back. I’m hoping to only work 3 days instead of full time, but will have to see what my boss comes up with. I work for a tiny company, so part time may not be possible.

Parisa & Bella – good to see you again!

Jessi – re the libido… was it you who was on anti-depressants (sorry if I’ve got this wrong)? They can wreak havoc with your sex drive. As can stress, exhaustion, motherhood! Do I need to go on??

Hi Tash!

Us – same old same old here. DD is still sleeping 18 hours a day. I think this is good. Although I’m wondering at what point should I start to get concerned about it?? She’s starting to chub up nicely too. Finally not looking so much like a skinned rabbit, poor baby. I have a horrid headcold now. Snotty, sinusey and headachey. I’m lucky that DH is here to help with DD (or am I here to help him?? LOL)

I added DDs 3 month details to her baby book yesterday. Then looked at DSs to compare their size. She – 4860gms/60cms. He – 6145gms/59.5cms. I knew he was a chubber, but he was so much bigger than DD! Maybe DD is going to be a supermodel? LMAO

Ah what a housewife - just finished ironing dh's shirts while I watched some soapies. Geez, should have had fluffy slippers on and a packet of tim tams......oh yeah, and hair in rollers too.

It's ds's day at the inlaws, so I took Steph to have her immunisations. She was so good and only cried a tiny bit. She's fast asleep now.....oops it's always dangerous typing that.

My friend with twins came over yesterday, so the three little squirmers had a lovely time together. :D

My silly MCHN STILL hasn't organised the mothers group. to her. She's hopeless.

Hello again

I just read back on my post

HELLO PARISKAMALI...I completely missed you..so sorry. Re work..I am planning to go back next week...but I am very lucky for the fact that I make my own hours (Tues and Thurs...while Chloe has her morning sleep) and I have my mum to look after her...so no day care. I told them I would only come back under my conditions at least while I am fully breastfeeding her...they can have a bit more pull once she starts on solids MAYBE hee hee. And it will get me out of the house for a little while even though Chloe and I are social butterflies and we tend to go out all the time meeting friends for lunch etc....You have to get her in a good mood to go in the car though otherwise she just SCREAMS ahhhh.

Mrs Potts - hope that cold leaves you soon

Riley is up there too at 6.8kgs but then again we had a bit of a head start.
tashmusa - Riley also rolls over only if he is on his tummy though. He has been doing this for a couple of weeks now.. I spoke to the midwife about it she said it is because their heads are so much bigger and heavier than the rest of their bodies that the weight throws them over.. ha ha ha I don't care I still think it is really cleaver.. is anyone elses bub doing this?? Or do I just have a baby with a big head:laughing:
Well Riley is much better the urine sample came back fine so no UTI thank goodness.. seemed he just had a virus.. still scared me lots.. guess I better get used to it as I am told that it is pretty common for babies / kids to get a high temperature. Still I have never seen him vomit so much it was like a whole bottle... poor little guy!!!!
Well as Riley is feeling better and the clinic nurse thinks that the bassinet matteress is not helping the flat head situation I have put him in his own room in the cot.... he has sleept realy well in it today. which suprises me. I am a little sad that he wont be in the same room as me tonight but there was barely any room left length wise in the bassinet.. so it was time.. I hope I hear him tonight..
Right how rude of me talking so long about me and with only one personal sorry all!!! I have read all the posts though....:o

It took me alot to drive with DP in the firt place and I was so nervous. I didnt think he owuld make me feel like an idiot but he suceeded. I have decided Im NEVER driving with him in the car again.
Ive lost all my confidence now:crying:

I can agree with you here...I'm another non driver (I swore my last learners would be the last, but didn't get there) and had DH working with me early pregnancy and he was so so so patient (I think because he knew that any words of discouragement would send me packing!). Anyway we got to the stage where he figured that he'd taught me all he was comfortable with (i.e. didn't want to teach me to park in our new car...not that I blame him) and started to put the ressure on about getting lessons. I then had one trip with him (driving to school) where yes, I did take a corner a little fast and he pretty much blew me out of the water....needless to say, i haven't got back in the car since (and didn't really want to after the 6 month pregnant mark anyway)....I've just started to think about it again, because I know I'll need it before I go back to work at the end of January....3 months...pressures on (especially since it's a 4 week wait in Brisbane to sit the test...imagine if fail!!!)

Nat finally woke up this morning, I told him I hate being a mum.:gloomy: :

Don't worry...you're not the only one (not that I think that you think you are...) those words left my mouth yesterday too...we had a hellish day, probably because of something I ate, and nothing seemed to work....was much better today

Jessi: When Noodle comes home and plays with Asher, the coos and giggles do lower in volume.

This is so opposite in my world...Charlotte is definitely Daddy's little girl...after yesterday's efforts, DH arrives home and it's all goos and smiles....will be interesting to see if it continues when he's SAHD next year

Ah what a housewife - just finished ironing dh's shirts while I watched some soapies. Geez, should have had fluffy slippers on and a packet of tim tams......oh yeah, and hair in rollers too.

I've started regularly watching Days of Our Lives!!! It's so tragic, because it's so crappy, but that tends to be when Charlotte feeds....definitely need to get out of that habit:yes:

Thanks for the sunscreen brands..i was looking last week, and all the kids ones were for 12 months onwards...at least I know where to strart looking now.

Also, to whoever was talking Cats (sorry, can't refind it) We have a budgie that rules the house (ie only in his cage at night, otherwise is 'free range'). We caught him a lot just sitting on Charlotte's bassinet when we first arrived home, but he's now taken to playing with her toes (a game he usually plays with me...she just doesn't know she's actually entertaining him as she wiggles) and in the last three days has sat on her head about 6 times, which she can't stand!!!He often sits on my knee chatting away at her while she's gooing with me which is very very cute

Sunscreen Thanks everyone for the sunscreen brands etc.

Adele and Parisakamali Avalon does indeed look at the book when she's read to. It is the cutest thing, she follows every page, depending who's reading, either DH or I, just hold the book in front of her and read and point to what we're reading about. At the moment we alternate between 'Naughty Little Puppies' and 'Catnap'. Both of them are very brightly coloured. I've actually got photos of DH still in his work uniform, reading to Avalon. I will try and put a link up so you can see.

Mrsbutterfly Still wearing 000 and 00s here. Although Avalon is rather long, so it's a bit of a stretch, length-wise.

Littlejoy I know exactly what you mean regarding the Basinette etc. I have just done the same thing with moving Avalon into her own room in the cot, and now I'm freaking that I'm not in the same room as her anymore. She is at one end of the house and we're at the other. I turn the baby monitor up full blast! haha

Jessi :hugs: I'm sure we can all relate to how you're feeling at one day or another. Hope you're days get better.

Amandaw:wave: It was me talking about the Cats. I LOVED your Budgie story, what a hoot.

Bella8 We probably seem like we never notice people missing in action (as we gabble so much), but we all do:wave:

TashmusaYEY Chloe! Make sure you mark it in the milestone post. Re: Christening, we are having Miss A christened this month or early December. We are bucking tradition an opting to have it on a Friday night (as opposed to a Sunday) and going out for dinner afterwards.
HMMMMM, van Slooten's, Delaneys, Gonzos, and Sultanas, know any of them?? hahha

Wattle You good housewife you! Wanna come to my place and iron all DH's uniforms?

Beany Well done with the feeding etc, your little man is thriving by the sounds of it. Thank you for the sunscreen advice form the Doctor too.

Sorry if I've missed someone with te personals. I have written them all from memory, and the ol memory's quite lapsed these days, so sorry in advance if I have.

Hi Guys,
Well another broken sleep for me last night.. Caleb just couldn’t get settled – to the point where I ended up having to sleep in the spare room as I thought it must have been the work phone that kept waking him up. He’s still grunting away now as a type and I’m in another room…

Not wanting feeds – anyone experienced this? It only started yesterday but Caleb doesn’t seem to be drinking all his feed. He’s on the bottle now and up to 180mls. He’s usually a guts but yesterday and this morning he was cranky but only drank about half… Mind you for his feed in the middle of the night he drank the 180mls plus an extra 60!!!!

Now for the personal posts…

Shed – I’m only a first timer so not quite sure about the whole teething thing but a friend of mine’s daughter started teething at 4 months and is still going now at 7 months!! My bubs is starting to dribble and shove his hands in his mouth – hopefully this isn’t the first signs of teething for him!!

Beany – don’t you hate it when you need a sleep and they decide it’s playtime!! Happens to me nearly every morning at 4.30am!!! Then when they actually sleep you end up using this time to do things around the house!!!

Uniqey – My bubs is also noticing our pet dog. He absolutely loves him, his eyes follow him around all the time and when I’m throwing the dog his ball, Caleb smiles away and gets really excited when he brings it back!!! Mind you, dumb dog hasn’t figured out that Caleb is too little to throw him the ball – keeps gently putting it on his lap and waiting!!! Oh and thanks for your message – good to hear you miss me even though you’re busy chatting!!

Mrsbutterflygirl – Caleb is now in 000’s. Mind you some of them are a little big and some a little small. I wish they were all the same size!!!! I have to keep checking his clothes as he seems to grow out of things weekly!!!!

Tash congrats on the rollover milestone!!

Parisa - – welcome back!!

Adele – thanks for your message, it’s nice to know I was missed. Sometimes you feel you get a bit lost in all the posts!!! I just can’t seem to get on to add a post much these days. Will try a bit harder though cause it always makes me feel better to know others are going through similar things. Oh and good luck with the driving!!!!

AlliJB – working while you where in hospital???!! Man, I thought I was crazy!! (just jokes). You are one dedicated worker girl!!

Jessi – don’t worry, I have those $#@! days too when I wonder what I have got myself into!!! Then he gives me a big smile and it instantly puts me in a good mood… until the crying starts again!!! Oh the joys!!!

Mrs Potts – Hi!! And good work with the sleeping thing! Wow.. 18 hours!!

Shed – I call this group the same thing. Freaky!

Scarlett_Jasper – re: weight. I have a 7kilo chubster on my hands too!!! Don’t ya love dem rolls!!!!!!!!!!

Littlejoy – I missed the ‘flat head’ situation. Our fella has a bit of a flat head at the back. Is this the same thing you’re experiencing?? He’s still in bassinette but we’re thinking of moving him to the cot soon…

Sorry to anyone I missed out.

Renae xx

Hello all

Well, I really feel like **** today...this blasted head cold...don't have a runny nose or anything, just a cough and sore throat....bit scary last week as our Dr thought DH had whooping cough...luckily though the results came back negative, but he was on standby with Chloe as if she showed signs of getting sick I had to take her into him immediately....it is easy to keep her away from other people who are sick but when it is yourselves it is extremely hard.

Amanda - LOVED your budgie story....I had a cockateil once that used to tease my dog...he would go up and pull her hair while she was asleep then run away...and then go back and do it over and over until Missy hid from him hehe

Uniquey -

Bella8 - Chloe was a quite unsettled last night too.....I think it was because she was hot.... I had her in a long sleeve nightie and she was sweating...it is so hard to decide what to dress them in at night as majority of the time if I put a blanket around Chloe she wriggles out of it no matter how good I wrap her up. So would you believe I put her in this short sleeve cotton top that buttons on the top then just hangs free that used to be DH's when he was a baby...yes his Mum kept a lot of his things, she is really good for that, she has given me heaps of ideas to put on Chloe's book of the things that are happening around the world. Cannot help you with the lack of interest if feeds...sometimes Chloe does not cry when I believe it is time for her feeds but I shove the booba in and she drinks away.
Loved your dog story...too funny

MMM..what else....apart from a rainy day today, not much else is happening, Chloe and I have decided to have a lazy day today....there is Ironing there to be done...but who feels like that today...certainly not me

Pop in later on
Bye

For the second time in my lafe I actually felt my heart break last night:crying: (First was when skyla had her 8 week injections)

Bubs was on the floor happily playig and smiling.. she was getting tired so mum picked her up and she started to SCREAM not hunger or tired but pain. I have never heard anything like it... I had no idea what was worng. I tried a bottle to sooth her- didnt work, dummy- nope.... nothing :( I ended up resorting to panadol which I really dont like doing. It elped to ease the pain and eventually she drifted off to sleep in my arms sucking her dummy.

I put my finger in her mouth and OMG a tooth is coming through. After all that talk of teeth yesterday and me thinking Skyla wasnt close to teething look what happens:crying:

Oh dear, the dreaded teething. Well, it's not that bad. Here's a few tips I used which made teething slightly more bearable:
Bonjela is great, but the herron brand or supermarket brand ones are just as good, and cheaper.
If you smear a bit on their dummy it's easier to get in (especially when they're a bit older and less cooperative).
Use neurofen instead of panadol once they are old enough (6 months??) it helps reduce the gum swelling.
Let them suck on a cold wet face washer if they're not into teething rings.

Hope that can be of some help to someone someday.

Quiet day here, it's raining. Dd is sleeping peacefully, and ds has just made me a lovely macaroni necklace which I am wearing.

Hope you feel better soon tash, colds are horrible!!

well girls its been awhile ....... i've turned into a dreaded lurker
we just don't seem to have anything that exciting to write bout these days.
i don't mean that in a sad way .... just too normal i suppose!

clothes
bella is in 000-00, depending on the brand ..... the pile of the clothes she no longer fits is getting bigger and bigger! she has SO many 00 and 0 things though so i shouldnt have to buy many clothes for ages (though every time i walk past the bonds stripies in big w my heart goes a little clucky...)

dribbling yeah, we've got a champion dribbler here. i'm getting used to the wet patches on my clothes, ESPECIALLY if she's in the baby bjorn!

weight bella was 4.9 kilos about a week ago ....... she's not fat, just very tall like her daddy.

cloth nappies we're in cloth, 24/7. works for us, and i love her cute cloth nappy bum :)

not much else to report .... bella's reflux is well and truly here to stay for now anyway, but the gaviscon is helping her alot, its just a bugger getting it into a bfed baby. ah well, no one ever said this mothering thing would be easy i suppose.
i went and saw a friend today who is 31 weeks pregnant and she let me feel her belly ......................... i got a little clucky ............................ but i'm over it now (*phew!*). i'd just forgotten what it was like to have a big belly and walk around with life inside you ........ ah. but then bella screamed all the car ride home and reminded me why i wasn't ready for another baby yet!

anyway, hope you are all doing well. i promise to try to not be so long between posts next time!

Hi gals,

Mind if I join you?

I gave birth to DS (our second) on 31 August. I was involved in a few months worth of TTC threads with bubhub but I found the focus too intense and low and behold 2 months later i became pregnant with DS! I never got around to joining the when are you due...Our daughter is 26mths and so far adjusting ok to life with her brother. the hardest thing is dinner/bath/bed time. i'm still working on it!

Bella8 and s-j - Riley is the one with the flat head the clinic nurse said it could be from the bassinet as the matteress are thin... also she said that if the matteress has a imprint of where the babies head has been then it could also be the cause. the Pedeatrician suggested packing him with nappies to help him sleep with his head turned.. didn't work he would just wriggle away from it.... and the clinic nurse said that it might be a sids risk.. so definately not doing that anymore.. so for now I go in every 20 mins through the day and turn his head to the side which doesnt seem to bother him to much.
Tash and Mrs Potts I hope you guys feel better soon

thanks for the welcome! and Adele - thanks for the instructions. Am feeling very proud of m'self for following them. Hmmm i guess a photo is next but that's probably a little more technical than I can cope with right now.

this is my favourite time of day...kids have settled and dinner is on (well if you count mashed potatoes with a tin of tuna as dinner...yes I know thats gross but DH is out tonight and that's my favourite ''no cook'' dinner  ).

i'm impressed with your teethers and rollers. Lottie popped her first tooth and 7mths and at 13mths still only had 4 teeth! Harry shows no sign of doing anything except eating, sleeping, and smiling when he feels like it....which is not as often as I'd like!!

DS and DD too actually both favoured putting their head to one side. I worried alot about it with DD as you do with #1. I kept trying to trick her into looking the other way! i think the tetra mattress in teh bassinette exaggerates this habit maybe?? In any event 2 years on her head is symetrical so I'm telling myself not to worry about Harry. I guess I should check with the GP when he gets his 8 week immunisations next week. Oh dear...only 3 weeks late...

Thanks Tash... hey do you use liners or what do you do with all the poop.... I am guessing that you would rinse them first... sorry I know I am totally clueless.....!!!:o
lottiesmum 8pm is also one of my favourtie times of the day as ordinarily Riley is asleep and we have had dinner and can finally veg out in front of the idiot box!! I must say though that at the moment my favourite time of the day is when Riley wakes up in the morning and is filled with smiles has so much energy and giggles and talks. Mind you this morning he wanted to do that at 4am... I had news from him.. wrapped him right up after his feed and put him back down. He wouldn't take his dummy or anything but within 20 mins he was asleep.. didn't last long though 5.30 came and he was awake but at least I got another 40 mins sleep :) About the flat head thing.. Riley sleeps on the back of his head so it is the back that is flat.. do you think that will correct itself too????

Morning All!

Adele: Will look out for you in the paper! Cool! and the bonus is, you get a free photo sitting! Having said tha, you take amazing photos of Skyla yourself, so I dont suppose that you really need to have a photo sitting from somebody else! And Yay for Skyla, she is the first August bub with a tooth!

Jane: Wow, I am impressed! Jasper is doing so well, he looks like sucha cutie!

Tash: I cant believe you are ging back to work already! The thought of work at the moments sends me into a cold sweat! I love my job, but I can honestly say that at the moment it is the furthest thing from my mind.... having said that though, I must admit that there are days when I do want my own space, then I feel really guilty for thinking it ... I think going back part time is a great compromise, so I am hoing that I will be able to do that.

Lottiesmum: Hi and welcome to the madhouse!

littlejoy: There are these wedge shaped things that you can use to help with getting bub to put their head to the side, I dont know if they are any good though, but they wouldnt be a SIDS risk as they are not soft and squashy and are breathable. I think bubs heads usually sort themselves out by themseles anyway dont they?

Uniquey - Hi darl, how are you? I love your avatar - Avalon looks so purrdy! When are you making the move down south? Havent you just bought a house here in Sunny Brissy? We are going to move after Christmas, but only to the Northside. We are currently near the southbank but DH wants to move nearer to work. (he works at RBH) so we will probably be moving to pine rivers area somewhere, I dont know where though as I havent yet researched what subburbs are good regarding schools etc *for when dd is older of course*

Shed: I so agree with you! I dont go to any mothers groups either, just here! Hey at least I can talk to you guys while I am still in my jarmies! I couldnt exactly go out to the park dressed like this!

Wattle, Parisa and Mrs Potts :

Weight: I had Eli weighed yesterday I cant believe she is 13 weeks old tomorrow! she is now 5 kilos exactly and is 61cm (is that long?) Maybe she is gonna be a tall one? DH is 6ft 2 and I am 5 ft 7 .. so I dont suppose she will be little! Unfortunately I have to take her to the paediatrician next week as the nurse has deteced a ery slight click in her left hip. I really hope that it turns out to be nothing!! I dont get it, she has had her hips checked by the pediatrician previously and this has never been picked up before  I hope it will all be ok.

Breastfeeding: I have managed to increase my supply a bit by using my breast pump a bit more. I was going to hire a medela bp from the chemist but in the end decided to buy the medela swing electrib breastpup which is fantastic, I also made some lactation boosing cookies yesterday which are really yum! so Thanks for the advice there :-)

Sorry if I have missed anyone!

morning all

bit of a sad morning here, i just found out my dog max died last night :( he's been living with dh's family in newcastle for the last 18 months (we're in a unit atm but as soon as we got a house or a unit with even a courtyard he was coming back to his mummy) ..... i got him for my 21st from dh ..... he was a maltese but was an outside dog ......... anyway won't bore you with too many details but he was such a good dog and loved when i'd wash him and play with him, he'd snuggle in. *sigh* anyway i'll stop typing about him cause it's making me sad.

cloth nappies i dry-pail my nappies, which means i don't soak. if its just a wee-d on nappy i just put it in the lidded bucket, if its pood on i used to hold a (poo-free!) corner of the nappy and flush the toilet over the rest to clean the poo off. now i have a little squirt which sprays the poo off into the toilet. anyway then put the nappy into the lidded bucket to wait for when i'm going to wash, and then i do a prewash before my normal washing cycle. i have a front loader so i wash on 30', but hanging the nappies outside in the sun (ie uv rays!) would be fine if you were washing on cold, would kill any nasties left in them and definately gets any stains out. that's my routine :)

welcome lottiesmum

tash hope your cold gets better, nothing worse than a sick mummy. our job's hard enough already!

littlejoy i don't use liners often, but if you wanted to you can use flushable ones (normal ones don't flush but you can easily get flushable ones) that you just flush down the toilet .... easy as!

You know the worst thing about having been through labour? Period pains aren't worth the bother of a complaint anymore. :(

What is worthy of complaint is that I have my period already. I thought I'd have a good few months yet - I mean I'm breastfeeding! It's not fair! I've only just (well, 4 weeks ago) stopped the post natal bleeding - I can't have to buy sanitary towels again! It's just not fair! Waaaaaaah!

Keep up with the feeding LP: the supply does increase. Apparently the best time to do it to increase supply is at night - keep pumping during the day, too, but get a few pumps in at night. You might remember that I was comp feeding with a bottle not long ago ... exclusively breastfeeding for a fair while now :smiliedance: Yay! What fun it is to wander around leaking patches onto my t-shirt! Yay the joys of a restricted wardrobe! Yay the having to get up and feed him as no one else can - I mean he could get the odd bottle at night before but since the supply increase, if I don't feed him, I might have to scrape bits of exploded boobies off the walls in the morning.

I'll return with more personals at some point when my head isn't throbbing (yay for migraines! Yay for period pains and migraines! Yay!!). Gotta venture out into the Sydney gloom to buy some DVDs - My Christmas present came early in the form of a DVD writer! Yeah, okay, not hugely exciting for most but I'm finally going to be able to back up the vast amounts of data I have on this computer. I run windows and so the likelihood of losing all my stuff is altogether far too likely. Most of it I wouldn't care too much about but if I lost all my digital photos of Asher ... :crying:

Hi everyone, hope we're all well.

My cold seems to be improving (except for the asthma cough, but that will hang around for a few weeks yet like it always does), and only DH seems to have gotten it from me. Touchwood neither of the kids will get it. :fingerscrossed:

Our big news is that we've just put DD in her cot for the first time  She's growing way too fast! The good news is, she doesn't seem too fazed with the new sleeping arrangements. She's been in her own room all along, so it's just a different bed - but she looks so tiny.

HI LP,.... Jasper is a little cutie,.....filled with smiles and chuckles,...but oh so hungry!!!!! He can almost sit up on his rolls of fat! Too funny,.... Don't worry about Elise's hips,... A slight 'click' was detected on Scarlett at her 8 week checkup,...and we were referred to a specialist, and we had countless xrays and ultrasounds, and then a checkup a year on, and the problem fixed itself,...we didn't need to have her in a harness or anything,..thank goodness,... but it is best you get it checked out asap,.......

Beany,....I had something to say to you,..but I can't for the life of me remember,....hmmmmm,..... Oh yeah,..bummer about AF,...sorry you are feeling miserable,..I have given up BF for about 2 weeks now,..so I am expecting any day!

Hey,...Jasper seems to be constipated,...I have tried water and sugar in his bottle, to no avail,....anyone who has a formula baby have any suggestions?

Adele - How is Skyla's tooth coming along? Which one is it? I heard from a friend the other day that her baby was born with teeth! Ewwwww,....sounds kinda gross really!

Took Scarlett to an African drumming class on Friday,........for 2 yr olds,... was brilliant fun! They all raced around playing drums and maraccas (sp?) and dancing to funky tribal music! God love the multicultural innerwest!!!!

Thanks for the well wishes, Mrs Potts :) The migraine, alas, is here to stay for at least another day - the pill I'd usually pop is off limits during lactation so I just have to suffer it.

Adele: regarding periods, mine's been going only a few days so I can't help you there. It is odd, though ... (back to TMI-ing!) the flow is slower and waaaaay darker than it ought to be for the first few days of period - it's more like what it was in the last days.

Goodness, Asher's been asleep since 4pm  He never sleeps this long during the day! I'm in for a hellish night, it seems!

I'm off to check he's still breathing - I do that obsessively since he's between 8 and 12 weeks - apparently the SIDS risk increases in that slot. Noodle rolls his eyes every time I check saying something totally comforting like "if something had happened, unless you checked within 3 minutes, it wouldn't make a difference anyway" ...

The callous *******.

He got one heck of a thump for that one ... And I increased the number of times I made him check on Asher that night, too.

Okay, granted, what he said makes perfect scientific sense and all ... very logical ... but good lord, who says something like that to a fretful first time mum?!

Talking of which

Hey,...Jasper seems to be constipated,...I have tried water and sugar in his bottle, to no avail,....anyone who has a formula baby have any suggestions?

We had Skyla onthe S26 Step one to start with but I foudn it made her terribly constipated poor little thing woul struggle so much:( So we changed to S26 Gold with Alpha Pro- its supposed to be easy to digest and that made a huge difference. She dosnt get constipated anymore:thumbsup:

My Dr reconmended Nan but it was $22 for a 900g tin and for 90ml you ende up using like 3 scoops!!! Way too much cost wise-

The S26 is about $21 in the supermarket but I have found that terry white seem to have it for $17.95 all the time:detective: The S26 uses 1 scoop to 60ml of water- Skyla has 120ml but will sometimes have an extra 60ml after I just make up the bottles as I go in 120ml lots then if she wants more straight away I put 60ml in the bottle I have just been using and everything is great(I asked the dr about that she said providing the bottle hasnt been sititng aroudn for ages its fine)

Hey,...Jasper seems to be constipated,...I have tried water and sugar in his bottle, to no avail,....anyone who has a formula baby have any suggestions?!

Jane - I am still giving Eli some formula feeds. I was originally using karicare Gold but Eli was getting really constipated. I had a chat with the baby nurse and she said that the best formula for constipation prone babies is NAN, this was also recommended by the doctor. So I switched to Nan. I get the NAN HA 1 which costs close to $22 dollars at coles - maybe cheaper elsewhere ut I havent checked. One tib lasts quite a while. Just 4 scoops for 120ml, but the scoops seem smaller than the karicare scoops. It also has bifidus or whatever it is called so there is some good bacteria. I am really happy with it and havent had any constipation problems at all since switcing over to it. Thanks for the advice re: the clicky hip, its good to hear from someone else who had the same problem. i am hoping that all will be ok. They checked the symetry of the creases on Eli's legs as this is apparently an indicator of a more serious problem (if the creases are asymetrical) but all is fine there so the nurse doesnt think it is too serious:fingerscrossed:

Beany: thanks for the advice re the breastfeeding. I will definitely try to do more expressing at night to increase the supply, I never seem to have much at all at night but maybe if I express more then I might see a change in a few days. I will be so happy if I can eliminate the bottles!

Periods: I still havent got mine back and I am not exclusively breastfeeding either! I am bracing myself for its arrival any day now!

Hi all
Regarding the constipation and NAN formula we have always used NAN for Riley and he has never been constipated. The Midwives and Pedeatrician said it is the closest formula to breast milk.. you can get it from BigW for $17.95 and the scoops are way smaller than the S26 one tin last us over 1.5 weeks and Riley has 6 bottles at 180mls each per day.
Regarding periods.. don't even talk to me about it... this is my second time since giving birth. Adele.. they are about the same in length for me so maybe you should go see a Dr. Beany you are right I used to suffer from bad period pain but the last two periods I have not even noticed any pain.
Beany - I would have knocked my Dh out if he has said that to me.. we have a baby monitor under Riley that detects movement.. if it doesn't feel any movement for 20 seconds an alarm goes off.. it is good to help with the peace of mind but I STILL go and check on him.. just don't want to rely to heavily on a piece of equipment.. it cost $300 but it is worth every cent especially for night time!!! It is so sensitive... I often forget to turn it off when I get Riley out of the cot and it will go off.. at least I know that it works.

hi all,
this is such a good idea...by that i mean the birth group thing...its easier to manage than a phone call but still offers a glimmer of adult conversation! My DH arrives back late tonight (he's been OS with work  ) and if I talk on teh phone Harry seems to wake with the sound of my voice. With a toddler it's hard to speak during the day unless I put Playschool on the DVD and I need to reserve that treat for tidying up the house and getting chores done!

Littlepickle re: hips. My DD had a ''clicky hip'' at birth and because congenital dislocation runs in my family she was referred to a paediatric orthopedic surgeon (crickey, if i've spelt that right I deserve a medal) who saw her at 2 weeks for an exam and also ultrasound. She had slight shallowness to the hip socket and so was monitored again at 6weeks, 4 mths and 12 mths. All fine! I had a bad dislocation which wasn't picked up until I was 10 months so this required months of traction and an operation. I'm sure that never happens now days. But for that reason I followed Lottie's experience quite closely. The specialist said that clicky hips are not much of an indicator - but the thigh folds not lining up can be. it is not a common problem, and treatment is more of a nuisance than difficult or painful or anything (my niece was diagnosed and wore a sling to correct the hip socket formation - she is 3 now and is perfect). So fingers crossed your little girl will be fine, but if she does have it, it is so much better to pick it up now.

Beany - I got my periods back 6 weeks after giving birth to DD - and she was fully BF too. I was terrified about the thought of another baby so soon so I went on the mini-pill and didn't have another period until I weaned her at 13mths. I've never discussed contraception with someone i've never met (!) but thought I'd mention it...Strangely i've yet to get them back with DS...maybe it's because I'm a bit older?!

After feeling rather hard done by last night, DS had a magnificent sleep. Fed at 6.30pm and asleep by 7.30pm woke at 3.30am for a feed then straight back to sleep until 6.30am for another feed then back to bed at 7.30am and slept until 11am :yelclap:. He's so much better in himself when he doesn't get overtired...tonight he's finding it harder to settle so will be interesting to see what he does. I'm findingthe evening routine hard to manage with 2 - they seem to want to run their evening the same way, if that makes sense...in other words they want to eat/bathe/settle at the same time. talk about a train crash!

hope you all have a lovely rest of weekend.

Oh, Beany, I feel your pain. I get hormonal migraines too. All the women in my family do. Have you tried digesic? It works pretty well for me and is okay while both pregnant and breastfeeding. What works best for me is tramadol, but I don't think that's okay while breastfeeding. Hope everyone here is well. I've been trying to rest more as I haven't been feeling great -- dizziness and nausea. Have no idea what it is, but it's looking like blood tests next week (before you ask -- am definitely not preggers!!!).

Will be looking out for you in the paper tomorrow, Adele!

Clicky hip - My Ob and GP both picked up a slight click in DD's left hip too. We went off a week ago for an ultrasound and it came back all clear. I was told more often than not it's nothing at all to worry about, but they like to be cautious.

Constipation/formula - another Nan fan here. DS had chronic constipation and we tried absolutely everything to get things moving for him. Poor little guy was even getting a bleeding bottom from the rock hard poops :crying: We tried S26 and Karicare, then finally Nan. Nan was wonderful! We went straight onto Nan with DD and she's had no problems either.

Also, advice from my CHN and GP is that there is no need to spend the extra money on "Gold" varieties of formula. Apparently the added ingredients aren't enough to justify the added cost of the formula. Also, the Gold ones often have more iron which increases the likelihood of constipation.

AlliJB - hope you're feeling better soon too!

S_J: Thanks for the period sympathy :o

I, like others, have found that Nestle NAN had fewer unpleasant side-effects. When we switched from NAN to S26, Asher was lucky enough not to get constipation (mind you, he was never exclusively on the bottle) but did chuck up more than usual. The nasty, stinky vomit, not the ordinary bit of spew that comes up with air. Another advantage to the NAN is that you can go up in smaller increments of formula - it's a scoop for every 30mls as opposed to S26's scoop per every 60mls.

To rectify the constipation situation now, you can offer Jasper some prune juice (perfectly standard practice and recommended by paediatricians).

Adele: When I was still regularly using formula for Asher, I'd sterilise 4 bottles and fill 2 with 120mls of water and 2 with 60mls and leave them on the counter top. After a bottle, if he was still hungry, we'd just nip in and make up another 60ml bottle.

Made life easier not having to measure out water and formula with a screaming baby claiming absolute starvation in the other room.

LP: another tip for increasing supply - get nekkid with the baby! Seriously, have a day to yourselves on the couch watching DVDs and cuddling with skin-to-skin contact while feeding on demand. There's all sorts of good stuff happening with oxytocin there.

Littlejoy: That monitor sounds like an excellent idea! Bit late in the game for me now though ... or is it? I'll run it by The Moron. I mean seriously! What was he thinking?!

Lottiesmum: discussing contraception with strangers is causing you discomfort? Oh dear ... you should have heard us when we were still pregnant! Let's just say that nothing is sacred, there is no such thing as too much information and nevermind contraception - we were all at one time or another intimate with the the consistency of each others' vaginal mucous :o

I am also terrified by the notion of getting pregnant anytime soon. I am on the mini-pill - they weren't kidding about that, were they?! It's a teeny tiny little pill! Though frankly, it offers me little comfort as I know someone who got pregnant while using the mini-pill and breastfeeding ... TWICE!

Abstain abstain abstain! :D

AlliJB: You know what, it hadn't even occurred to me that it was hormonal! It makes perfect sense! I usually got these migraines every month or thereabouts and never made the connection ... Goodness I'm a thicko! I'll keep the name digesic in mind - thanks! I used to take cafegot which was fantastic - made me a bit ditsy but the pain went away almost immediately. Alas, that is forbidden :(

Off to bed I go! Quick hello to everyone I didn't reply to directly! Hope you're all doing well!

Morning all. Just a quick post, I'm off to pack the car as we're going away overnight for the first time since our honeymoon in 2004!!! About time.

First time away for the kids too...... should be interesting.

I think I have everything but the kitchen sink ready to squeeze into the back of the wagon.

Wish me luck - high ho silver :D

:) Hi Guys,,, thanks for the info re Nan.... I had never even heard of it,. We have Jaspie on S26,..but I will pop out this morning and get him some Nan-na Juice! hehehehe!

Hey,...a big morning for me today,... I bought an horrifically expensive pair of jeans on Ebay 6 months after Scarlett was born, only to find that there was no way even one of my legs was going to fit into them,.. so I chucked them in my cupboard with the label still attached, and forgot about them,... well,...in my many awake hours last night (we had a shocker with Scarlett sick and Jasper hungry!), I remembered them and thought to try them on! Well,.......THEY ARE TOO BIG!!!!!! How good is that! 3 months after baby no2 and I am 10kg lighter than prepreg!! Woo Hoo!!!!!

Cathy - Have a great trip! I am jealous! Though really holidays thesedays are simply doing the same thing in a different location, without all your stuff!

Anyone think I have a problem haha

Adele - I was looking for you!!!! I'm sure it will be used....just a ploy to get you to buy the paper for the next few weeks!!!

Had a crappy, crappy night last night with two ups 12 then 3.30 - we haven't had that for WEEKS!! We evn got the tease last week of a 9 hour sleep (usually getting one decent 6-7 hour one) so all is not good here today (and blimen DH is at cricket, so he doesn't get to share the cranky one!)

Question for those of you who have travelled by plane with baby....when exactly did you feed bub (ie whole of take off...could be forever depending on where we have to taxi from.... just in the air, finished when seatbelt sign went off)? Just asking because we're off to Sydney next weekend for DH's Dad's 50th and I got a dummy for Charlotte to help deal with cabin pressure, and she just spits it back out at us (a godsend in lots of ways, but wrecked our plans!). Also would it matter if one of the feeds is water (she will take that from a bottle) - not sure how I'd go feeding twice on such a short flight......if not, I guess there will be a plane load of dirty passengers!

MountainGirl
05-11-2006, 11:13
Hi Amandaw,.. Scarlett never used to take a dummy,..so when we flew, we put (at the advice of a midwife) some glycerol (comes in a bottle like castor oil) on her dummy, and it gave her something to suck and created a suction so that the dummy stayed in her mouth,.,she never swallowed any of it,.not like honey or anything,..... and just for take off and landing,.and it worked a treat,.. just dip the dummy in the bottle,...

Hey Adele! Don't worry about it at all, these things happen all the time on newspapers. Hey, I write for The Courier Mail and I get bumped all the time myself! It all depends on what other stories are going in (some may be too similar), what's happening in breaking news (got to cover Stefan's sky needle going up in flames, huh?!) and so on. Don't feel bad, it'll probably just be in next week and we'll all be looking out for you then. I noticed there was another article in that was slightly related -- pregnancy exercise classes at the Royal. That could easily be the reason you weren't used this week.

Well, off to do the groceries. Again... Coles should give me some kind of a medal.

Hello all

lottiesmum - mmm mashed potatoe and tuna...sounds like my DH's kind of dinner he would cook hehe except for the tuna as I am not a fan....when he cooks the vegies are alway mashed potatoe..and that is it

littlejoy - Re nappies...I like to use liners...I use the Johnson's one (blue Chux type of thing) and you just throw them when you are finished...stops some of the thicker poo going onto the nappie...but really hard to buy them in Innisfail as I can only get the cheap brands which are CRAPPY..so when we go to Cairns I always buy bulk.....with regards to rinsing...I put the pee nappies staight in the bucket to be soaked but rinse the pooey ones in the laundry before I place in the bucket...hope that helps

littlepickle - yes don't worry somedays I think I can't believe I am even contemplating going back to work...if I could not choose my own hours, don't worry I would be definately staying home...and I always feel guilty when I have sad moments...AHHH I hate feeling like that way and when I feel better I just hug and kiss Chloe and tell her how much I love her hehe....Good luck with Elise's hip... GOOD LUCK with the Breastfeeding..hope you can increase your milk

Mamaanne - :hugs: So sorry to hear that your dog died....:gloomy: BIG HUGS...I know how special they are

Beany - YAY for the exclusive BREASTFEEDING...did you ever think you would make it this far. Bummer though about the periods

Mrs Potts - How is DD going in her Cot? It is a big step...quite a sad one in a way....we put Chloe in her when she was 8 weeks, so she has been in hers for a while...in the morning she just lays there for about 5 minutes looking around and stretching, then I go and get her when she wails...she has always shifted from where i put her now too

Jane - Drumming and dancing....how fun that would be....that is what I hate aobut living in a small town...lack of activities..I would love to take CHloe somewhere like that when she got bigger..:smiliedance: for the weigtloss

AliiJB - hope you feel better soon

Wattle - Have fun on your overnight stay

Adele - never mind..will look for you next week

Hello to Kristi001

Me - Doing ok here....had a sad day yesterday...don't know why..had a little fight with DH the night before so maybe from that...but just really felt like I needed to get out of the house and all DH wanted to do was rest cause he had a few drinks the night before with work mates...DOES ANYONE"S BABY NOT LIKE THE CAR? For that reason I could not even go for a drive cause majority of the time Chloe whinges and that would have made me feel worse....so what did i do....went and got a movie and LOTS OF CHOCOLATE....feeling better today though....I think I have moments not so much I don't want to be a mum CAUSE I LOVE BEING A MUM...but more so I miss my independence a little bit....but lucky I don't have them very often...all she has to do is give me a smile and I could not imagine anywhere I would rather be...well enough whinging from me...hope you are all having a nice weekend

Well I went to the shops and we brought DP a rediculosly expensive shirt from Jag:D Feeling a bit better now....

shed
05-11-2006, 14:28
We went away overnight, and stayed at DP's brothers house. My cousin had a baby shower - she is having twins in December. The baby shower was okay, just sat around and yakked really, forgot to play the games.

I am also in a pair of jeans that I couldn't squeeze into just before I got pregnant so I have lost alot of weight as well. I haven't weighed myself but I feel great. My little neice said yesterday "Aunty you look better than you did before you had the baby".

She is seven, so I tend to believe her. Mouths of babes etc.

At DP's brothers we stayed in a small bedroom, DP on an airbed on the floor, bubby in his bassinet without the stand and me in the single bed. During the night I reached down and felt bubby's little hands and behind his neck and he was frozen so I brought him up into the bed. Awhile later I woke up and he was pushed up against the wall snuffling into the pillow, so then of course I couldn't sleep. I am the most tired I have ever been since giving birth. So this is what sleepless nights are? they suck!

No sign of AF for me and she better stay away too.

Beany I didn't know that about the peak time for SIDS. Thank goodness I didnt know that or I would have been worse than what I already am. I am a constant checker of the little chest going up and down, I have got it down to a fine art now. DP doesn't even realise how often I check.

I also realise that about what Noodle says about it being too late or whatever, but once the thought of checking has entered my mind I have to go and check. No matter how much I try and tell myself not to be silly I just have to go and check. And on that note...

**back in a sec**

Yep, little chest is going up and down

I am currently knitting bubby a jumper. I am not a bad knitter but I am a very bad "finisher of projects", but this is only small so it should be okay. Probably be finished just in time for summer, ha ha, oh well.

Kristy001, your wee man Harrison is an absolute doll!! It was lovely to meet you and
b!tch about Liverpool Hospital together, LOL, I hope to see you again at one of the meets soon.

Re: the nappies. I dry pail and don't get rid of the poo till I am ready to wash. Its like christmas unwrapping the parcel to see what it contains, . I just rinse the poo off and chuck it in the machine. Once they get a bit more solid I will invest in a little squirt. Then dry in the sun and they are good as new, bright and sparkling clean. I only use modern fitted though, not terry flats. As strange as it may sound I actually enjoy washing bubby's nappies (yeah yeah I know I know  )

At the baby shower yesterday I was being SO careful to make sure bubby didn't spew. He's not a big spewer but all babies do sometimes, but I wanted to keep him "nice" so I was being very conscientious with the rag and the bib. So anyway, my cousin comes over with Zander the reflux baby from hell and sits next to me for ten seconds and then Zander vomits on my baby.

All down his jeans, over his hands, the whole bit.

Aww!!

Just had to post cos I'm having a bit of a sad time. For the last 2 days DD will barely eat. Her middle of the night bottle gets emptied, as does her first one in the morning, but she's barely touching the others. I just don't know what to do. I'm confident it's not the teats or the actual bottle because if that was the problem she'd have a few sucks then kick up a stink. Right now she's crying as soon as the bottle touches her mouth.... She's still sleeping fine and doesn't seem otherwise stressed.

I know if she was truly hungry she would eat, but that doesn't make me feel any better. Why won't she eat??? :banghead::banghead:

Hmm OK, sorry about that. I'm not looking for any advice, I just had to get it out.

On the upside though - she's been sleeping well in her cot. Didn't bother her in the least apparently to be evicted from the bassinet.

Jane - did you get the Nan? Did Jasper approve? The other things to try for constipation (which I forgot to mention last time) are cooled boiled water, or coloxyl drops. Hope he gets pooping soon!

Hi everyone else!

Hi Ladies...
How are we all? I have been so busy lately... Ive started making my own jewellery in the hopes of making some extra cash. Im stoked, im actually quiet good at it- every ring I have made so far has turned out fantastic!

Elsha has been ok... shes a funny girl. All day today shes been talkin to herself and to us... lots of smiles. AND!! She knows a word already. LOL Well... sort of. She's started doing this cry that REALLY sounds that shes calling out to me saying "hungry! hungry! hungry!". She did it for the first time the other night and i came hurtling round the corner and was like "Nat, did u hear that? It sounds like shes saying "hungry!""... and it wasnt a once off thing- whenever shes hungry she starts doing it! LOL... shes so intelligent for a 10week old!

DF and I have decided to celebrate Xmas early this year... he got his xmas pressie yesterday... an Xbox 360 plus 2 games... Im gonna get some hair extentions... probably next week- I just have to make the appointment. Ive wanted them for so long, im so impatient with my hair growing. I shaved my dreads off in September last year and my hair is taking FAR too long to get to where I want it to be. Unfortunatly for Elsha, she has to wait til December 25th for her presents, but somehow I dont think she will mind :p

Adele- I have had AF for a while now also. I got it 8weeks after El was born... it lasted 7 days and then stopped for 3 days and now its back again... Im on the minipill & breastfeeding... blergh-what the hell is going on?!

I remembered them and thought to try them on! Well,.......THEY ARE TOO BIG!!!!!! How good is that! 3 months after baby no2 and I am 10kg lighter than prepreg!! Woo Hoo!!!!!

Yaaay Jane!! How cool is that! Its a great feeling to be rid of the baby bulge isnt it! I am fitting into all of my pre pregnancy clothes but find that I am still a bit squidgy in the tummy area, so I am going to step up the yoga and pilates as this seems to do wonders for stomachs. Also I feel like I am still retaiing fluid, is this due to breastfeeding - does anyone know?

.I think I have moments not so much I don't want to be a mum CAUSE I LOVE BEING A MUM...but more so I miss my independence a little bit....but lucky I don't have them very often...all she has to do is give me a smile and I could not imagine anywhere I would rather be...well enough whinging from me...hope you are all having a nice weekend

Dont worry, yu arent on your own there, I get those feelings sometimes too! Usually when I am majorly sleep deprived I think it is completely natural, I mean, being at someone elses beck and call 24 x 7 takes a bit of getting used to.

No sign of AF for me and she better stay away too.
I'll second that! I dont want AF!!! Hey, I didnt know you were a clothis Shed! I have a few clothies but only use them occasionally while at home, then its huggies for the rest of the time. I do like the idea of clothies though, I'm just too lazy! Which ones do you use? I have bambino mio's which I find really good and pee pods which are ok.

Adele: Dont worry about the paper, I am sure they will put it in next week:hugs:

Amandaw - re:flying and feeding. I found that breastfeeding worked quite wel during takeoff etc as dd will quite happily comfort suck there whether she is hungry or not, having said that, she managed to sleep through one take off and landing without sucking anything or waking up. The problem with giving a bottle is that by the time you taxi down the runway and wait for takeoff, its quite likely tha the bottle will be finished

Thanks to everyone who has given advice re: the clicky hips, it means a lot! Its times like this that I wonder what I would do without you guys! I feel so much better about it now. I wil let you know how I go at the doctors with her on Monday!

Jessi - I love extensions! I had some for my wedding they looked lovely, I had the great length human hair ones and they lasted about 4 months before I took them out, I should have just had them repositioned but for some reason I decided to take them out myself one night.. I dont think I can justify spending that on myself again though, I think they cost 1000 at the time .. maybe I should talk nicely to DH.. I still have my baby bonus money after all ;)

MrsPotts - I hope everything is ok and your little one is eating ok now, I guess they just do this to us sometimes.. they go through days of eating non stop, and then not wanting anyting!

Lottiesmum: Thanks for the hip advice :hugs:

Beany: I am so impressed!! Exclusively breastfeeding after everything! Wow, you must be so happy with that! I have been takin your advice and tomorrow am planning a skin to skin day with dd and a book.. wish me luck!

Question --- What is the mini pill?? May be a stupid question but i have never heard of it.. :)

Question --- I have Posted this in the Bottle feeding section but thought i might get the answer from here :) Harrison Has now stopped drinking his whole bottle.. He drinks like half, then i burp him and thats all his going to drink.. He throws his head around, spits the formular everywhere, closes his lips really tight so i cant even force the bottle in his mouth.. I even try waiting half an hour then trying again but no luck  Before he would drink the whole 180mls then sometimes want a top up and 1-2 hours later....

LP: yep, I am a clothie, I use Greenkids and my own homemade ones which are the same as Greenkids. I am always blathering away in the cloth threads these days and I won the sew off. You mean you guys didn't notice that my dinosaur nappy won the sew off????

I use disposables when we are out and about and when we go away, although when we were up the coast in the weekend his Huggies leaked absolutely everywhere, up his back and all down his legs, poo and wee everywhere. So I am quite unimpressed with that. A Greenkids Anytime has NEVER done that.

I wonder if the mini pill brings on AF quicker? At the moment we have no need for contraception, if you know what I mean!! Not interested.

evening all :)

well bella is still asleep .... after feeding at 7:30. i know what you're thinking, that's only 3.5 hours, why is that exciting? the reason it's exciting is the last 2 days she's been waking up between half an hour-2 hours after a feed and claiming that she's never been fed.
growth spurt anyone?
i'm praying that it might be over now .... my poor boobs need a break (and so do my ears from the crying actually!)

shed i noticed you won!!! i thought to myself "ah, one of the august girls is growing up and making good :)" or something equally as silly. lovely nappy by the way ........ if i had've been organised to sew something cute then i would have entered ..... my naps are 90% homemade (pockets and fitteds/covers). next time! here is some i made if you're interested ....
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g37/mama_anne/DSC00746.jpg

tashmusa the being-a-mummy feelings sound exactly what my brain does every once in awhile ..... lots more if i'm tired or if bella is having a shocker. i think part of it is we don't air those feelings so we feel like there must be something wrong with us if we're not loving every second of being a mum. but that's what we're here for - vent away!

mrspotts sorry to hear about the bottles ... but the cot sleeping is a wonderful thing. fingers crossed she wakes up a hungry bubba tomorrow after a wonderful sleep in her cot.

jessi it sounds like you're really enjoying making the jewelery - show us a picture of your creations!

beany sad to hear about the migraines. hope you're feeling better .... it's so funny how different symptoms at different stages of life can mean totally different things ..... i remember when we were ttc, everytime i got a headache i got excited because i thought i might be preggy (i read somewhere that was one of the early symptoms .... though now it sounds a bit dodgy).

 to everyone else.

well, we've had a bit of a psycho weekend ..... lots of crying from bel, lots of feeds ... hence the aforementioned growth spurt (i think!).
i still have AF ... not sure how long for (because time is a weird thing nowadays) but it feels like at least a week and a half. no signs of it stopping .... i assumed it was something to do with the first period after having a baby .... was going to post on here about it ...... didn't get around to it.
but on a better note - pre-preggo clothes are fitting better than ever. even stuff that didn't fit me when we were ttc fits me now! i do have a goal pair of pants though ..... sportsgirl size 8. don't think they'll ever fit again in this lifetime but i can dream. i REALLY like those pants.

well should go to bed really. night all

Beany i didnt know that you bottle fed...

Answer 1: The mini pill is a contraceptive pill with a very low dose. It generally doesn't mess with period cycles or cause any major hormonal upsets - it basically works by thickening up the cervical mucous and making it an inhospitable environment for sperm and prevents implantation.

Sorry, no answer for question 2 ... Maybe don't burp him halfway through - wait until the feed is complete?

And yes, I bottlefed Asher nearly every other feed when I first got back from hospital simply because I was in so much pain with the cracked and bleeding nipples that I couldn't bear to breastfeed him the whole time. Within a couple of weeks of that, the bottles dropped to about 2-3 a day. Just as I thought I was getting on top of things, I got intraductal thrush :gloomy: I kept saying that this was it, no more, I'm giving up breastfeeding and going to the exclusively formula-fed ranks but for some reason I just kept at it. Like shed said, I'm a stubborn bugger :D

Eventually, the thrush got beaten back and the bottles disappeared altogether - that happened only a few weeks ago. I say "altogether" but he does still get the odd bottle here and there when I leave him alone with his dad and haven't had the foresight (or inclination) to express some milk beforehand.

Anne: I wasn't actively TTC so I didn't see symptoms of pregnancy in mundane events like headaches but, as you well know, I saw symptoms of labour in everything!

I'm sorry to hear about Bella's wakefulness and lung workout - I know all too well what that's like  Asher's been boob huggy this weekend too ... Do they go through a milk-supply-increase day around now? Actually, knowing my fat little monster, he'll just keep upping the supply whether he's due a growth spurt or not!

He's doing the funniest thing since yesterday. He's always rooting when something comes in contact with his face. Normal enough. Yesterday afternoon, around the time when he'd usually be screaming for a feed, he just sort of lunged his head forward, snapping his mouth like a hungry puppy ... into air! He carried on doing that for a bit, while I laughed at him before finally figuring out that there wasn't going to be any passing boobies in the wind for him to latch onto.

I've got to get a camcorder. Photos just don't cover the full range of hilarity to be had with an insane child ...

Just a quick one from me this morning,..as I have 2 sick children (coldey coughs) and it is raining and miserable,.... jeez,..a long day in stall,......

I have a script for the minipill,...but I have lost it somewhere,....I can;t really say that I will be needing it anytime soon,...if you know what I mean! I have to go back and see Stephen again in a couple of weeks anyway,..a postnatal pap smear came back abnormal and I have cervical lesions whatever the hell that is,....so back I go to check it out,..... at least that means another appointment with Dr Divine!

I looked at hair extensions for our wedding (I ended up getting married looking like Annie Lennox),...I didn't get them, cause they were going to cost $3000,...and after a $6000 dress thought that may have been a little too extravagent,.. I regret it though,.....I am so impatient with hair growing!!!

Oh,...one last thing before I sign off,.... We nearly lost Scarlett yesterday,.. you know how you hear of those toddlers walking in their jarmies down the sides of freeways at 6:00 in the morning, and their parents having no idea how they got out?!?!? I have always wondered how that happened,...but it nearly happened to us last night,... All was very quiet,..which is always a worry,..so Mike said,.."Where is Squidg',... I thought she was in her room,....nup,.... her window was wide open (she has the front room) and she had climbed up behind the blinds, opened the window, and jumped through onto the verandah,....she was just unlocking the front gate when we found her! 2mins later and she would have been gone! I feel sick when I think about what could have happened,.......... She is only 2!!!!!!!! They aren't supposed to be able to unlock windows, climb outside and ESCAPE!!!!!!!! Her window now has a lovely new lock on it,...sigh,.....it has started,....... Check - Jasper still in bouncer,...check,...Scarlett still in our new Long Bay Jail of a house!

Hi all,

Was just popping in to complain about the weather and brag about my boy sleeping from 9pm until 5.30am!!! Sure, it's a fluke and never to be repeated for another 6mths but I feel sensational for the big sleep. Mind you he had a dreadful evening of not wanting to settle and being in a state because of overtired-ness from 6-9pm. as for the weather i know it's good for the water supply (not to mention my garden) but enough already!

quick question - who is still wrapping their baby? I wrapped DD until about 4mths I think. I've been wrapping DS but he's started fighting it of late - trying to escape and getting rather cross/frustrated. maybe it's time to let him loose but then his hands will bang against the side of the bassinette. I was hoping DD'd have converted to her new "'big girls bed'' by now so we can put DS in her cot, but she is resisting...and I know we need to leave the cot a couple of months before putting DS in there to limit the trauma to her!

S&J - that's so scary...our girls are close in age - and it's such a mischevious time, isn't it....lucky no harm done to scarlett and you caught her in time.

Yay for all the AUGUST MUMMIES weightloss! :smiliedance: gotta love breastfeeding. i used to joke that i would BF DD forever but that idea lasted until she started chomping at my boobs when her top teeth came through at 13 mths. OUCH! maybe I'll just have to keep making babies  but I'm not sure DH would agree to that!!

Must go - as much as I'd like to I can't spend Lottie's entire Playschool DVD sitting on bubhub  got to get some work done!

We only had one mishap when she fell out the other night,.......but that has been the only drama so far,. she loves her bed,..she takes her lunch and a book and snuggles in! Too cute! Oh,..and she put her dirty dishes in the dishwasher this morning,...yay!!!!! Wacko for the big sleep! Did you get that sleep too? Or were you too concerned about whether bubba was breathing or not!

Beany- Thanx for that.. :) I might have to discuss that with my GP we are only using condoms as contreception and after 10 months without them  I has heaps of trouble Breast feeding the first few weeks.. One day i only fed him 3 times on the boob... The next day My milk was gone.. Its funny they tell you all the joys of breast feeding but they dnt mention the bad things... I was devestated when i couldnt breast feed.. i had worked myself up for it the whole pregnancy then after 3 weeks.. That was it :( Arwel formula aint thyat bad

Scarlet-jasper- Harrison has been fighting to get out of being wrapped since he was about 3 weeks... i still do it but he ends up out of them within 5 mins :)

No wrapping here either. Baden cracks it if he can't have his arm out.

Theres a Sydney meet on the 23rd, the thread is somewhere around here.

Baden laughed today. A real one. I said to him "Where is mummy's toothbrush?" and he let out an almightly chuckle. It was so cute. He has done a nerdy little laugh-type thing for a couple of weeks but this was a real one.

Jane, if your wedding dress cost $6,000 then you won't have much fun helping me plan my wedding. My stingeyness will annoy you, LOL!!

Actually I think the wedding might be off. The marriage is still going ahead but I can't seem to get excited about planning anything and DP is quite keen to just p!ss off somewhere and come home married. That was my idea in the first place, so maybe that's what we will do. Take our baby and go somewhere nice and get married.

Asher had his first belly laugh last thursday when we got back from the Sydney bubhub meet. It was very cute! There he was on his nappy change mat while I prattled on, telling him not to grab his willy and out came the chuckle. I spent the rest of the day saying "willy" to him, in the hopes of a repeat laugh ... nope.

His father thought I'd gone nuts when he heard me squealing "WILLY" at random intervals during the evening ...

All I got were the "huh" laughs. Not the proper ones.

He's laughed the proper laughs only a few times since then. Much to my disgust.

WILLY!!

That's sad news Adele, I hope everything is ok for you. You know you're always welcome here in the august thread.

Well we made it back safely from our one night away holiday. We're so outrageous these days.....not. I think it took longer to pack and unpack the car than it did to drive there. hehehe. Ds's behaviour was so bad I was going to leave him on the side of the road near some one-horse country town, but lucky for him that I didn't. Whine, whine, whine, whine, kick, scream, whine, whine, whine, louder whine, even louder whine aaaaaaaaaaagggghhhhhh. 3.5 hours of whining. Enough to drive me to skull a bottle of plonk. Lucky I'm breastfeeding and couldn't. Ah the joy of toddlers. Dd was pretty good apart from a really unsettled patch from 6pm - 9pm. Phew - exhausting holiday.

I put the suitcase away this arvo and thought it's going to be a looooong time until I use that again. :D

littlejoy hope things are going ok. I just ate 10 mini violet crumbles!!! Yes, 10 of them. what an oinker. So we can feel flabby together. I've put a couple of kg's on since I gave birth, it's all a bit depressing some days.

Noosamum - no flies on you, yes we rambled on so much we were shifted along to this lovely new location. Glad to have you back on deck.

Shed - eloping? How slack. Now here we are all wanting to put our 2c worth in to your wedding plans and totally confuse you and now you're thinking of just running off? What about all that unwanted advice we're hoping to give you? For goodness sakes who's this wedding really about? Oh yeah, you. Oops... ok well then... *looks around* who's going to join me in giving Shed lots of unwanted HONEYMOON advice?

And welcome back!!

Adele, I don't know what's going on but hope you sort it out, we're a tight knit bunch in here so I doubt that it was this thread that bothered you.

I am going to NZ on Saturday to see my parents so DP and I have to sort out this wedding business before then because if we are going to elope I am going to have to put them off the scent, but they've already caught a whiff. My mum has probably already bought her white outfit <sarcasm>.

When I get back I will no doubt be so emotionally scarred that having them over here for a wedding will be the last thing I want.

Well Baden is the second oldest in this thread and he only laughed today and all the others have laughed already? Well he took his time in smiling too but he seems to have caught up on that. My introspective little man.

Whoa, what?! I havent seen anything!! What have I missed out on? You cant leave! :(

I have had a rather interesting 48hrs. As some of you may remember, up until about mid-pregnancy, DF & I had numerous problems with our cars. The work van went through about 6 engines and caused us alot of stress & unhappy times.. so we baught a new van... which seemed to be plagued with problems also (we ended up givin it the flick and fixing the old van again)... We thought we had it sorted until a week or so back, where we had to replace the head in the engine. ($600) Anyways, today- the 7th engine, with brand new head on it, ****s itself.
And to make matters worse, my car's gearbox shat itself yesterday so its in the shop waiting to be repaired.
We have no means of transport, Nat cant work til he has a van to work from... ugh. We have such bad luck with vehicles. Nat has been on the phone all afternoon tryin to get a loan so that we can get him a new car at least...
Shocking eh?

adele sad to hear your news also, as has been said before, you're always welcome here in august. i hope you can put whatever is stressing you behind you :hugs:

noosamum oooooh your little princess is so cute. she would have LOVED all that! i have to be a bridesmaid in a month ..... i am looking forward to everything EXCEPT getting the dress altered (i may have overestimated by 4 sizes what my post-baby body would look like!) and figuring out what to do with bella in terms of feeding..... all night before, morning of, day of, night of the wedding .... any advice? if only we were on formula! glad to hear you had a good holiday ....... as soon as dh finishes his exams (2 weeks!) my holiday will start .... well, not a holiday, but at least there will be someone else to share the work!

laughing no laughs here yet ..... bella does sometimes "talk" while smiling ...... does that count? no, even i don't think it does! although she does do a kind of hissing noise while smiling when she's really happy ......... i'm waiting for the belly laugh!

wrapping we still wrap b (she's 10 weeks today) and if she's woken up before i expect her to i can almost GUARANTEE it's because her arms are out of her wrap and she's woken herself up. i don't think she's lost the whole startle reflex yet. she's also worked out how to slide across the cot to the bars .... dh found her against the bars with one of her legs resting on top of the bar  so we've put the side of the cot up now!
but we only have one wrap that she's guaranteed not to get out of - it's about as big as a cot sheet!

well off to watch the biggest loser .... and try to not feel guilty about the junk food i've eaten today!

Hey,...Jasper seems to be constipated
give bub a circular tummy rub/message, make sure it is clock wise and go around the outer edge of the tummy, it helpsphysically pushig the pop out, also flex knees over the tummy that helps too.

well, gone are the days when there would be more than me on bubhub at this time of night.
i dont want to go to sleep because when i wake up i have to meet my mum and spend 4 hours with her .......... we don't have the best relationship. and she doesn't understand how i parent bella .... "but surely she doesn't need to feed every three hours" ... actually if she's crying and hungry then yes she does need to feed then. "will she be awake when i come to see you" ...... i am not going to wake my child just because you are coming to visit! she will wake up when she wakes up and you can be patient!

so i'm being really mature and not going to bed because i don't want to wake up and it be tomorrow.
silly me :(
the annoying thing is i'm SO tired and bed would be so great right now ..........................................

gosh...alot can happen in 24 hours! DH was home a bit before 8pm last night and given he's been away i didn't feel i could ignore him and jump on the laptop in for a chat.

thanks for the feedback on wrapping. i've decided that he fights it if he's overtired but still needs it to stop his arms flailing about. DS seems to get overtired easily and when he does he is hard to settle. DD was a very easy baby and sleeper so it's been an adjustment.

Kristi - Harry doesn;t do anything other than eat, sleep, smile and coo. He doesn't play with any toys other than watching his mobiles (he has 2 different ones). you might like to tell her that Lottiesmum says it is unhelpful and rude to compare babies - they are little individuals

Adele - IMO one of the harder aspects of being a mum is the, well, competition for lack of a better word, with some women. some seem to build their self-esteem and worth by criticising the way others deal with their children. luckily most women are not like this but the ones that are can be vicious...this thread seems very open and friendly...shame for you to leave if you don;t want to.

S&J - I'd love to meet up. but we are no longer around the corner! we sold our tiny 2 bed terrace when i fell pregnant with DS..only to find we couldnt afford to buy a place with a decent backyard unless I went back to work full time, which i didn;t want to do while my babies were little. So - we are trialling a tree-change! I'll have to update my postcode - which is might higher than it was...but we spent many very happy years in the inner west and i still consider it my spiritual home :D i so miss Norton St grocers...My DH commutes to Sydney for work, and its hard being without friends and family, but we love the lifestyle esp for the children and we are slowly meeting new people. Nice one with Jasper - Harry did the same too last night - 4am then quick feed and through to 6.30am. Hooray - though typically me i start thinking how he's not my tiny baby anymore and get all teary.......mothers, eh?!?!?!?

shed - I'm a sucker for weddings and wanted to tell you about friends of ours who threw a party/naming ceremony for their DD in their backyard. the celebrant did the naming ceremony then the couple announced that since she was there, they were finally going to tie the knot! it was beautiful and lovely for the 3 of them to share the day. you could do it as simply or fancy as you wanted....hold it at home, at a park or where ever.

wattle - I'd love to join your sweep. for the first time in my adult life i won't be at a cup function...but i'm going to make a bit of an occasion with the kids - i'll make funny hats for the kids and finger sandwiches and sparkling apple juice for champagne!

Question - Are your bubs holding toys Yet.. A friend of mine keeps telling me that her baby was doing alot more then harrison is doing now... :(

Harrison is perfect in every way so if he is not holding toys yet then he is not supposed to be. He's gorgeous and looked to be doing just fine to me.

I'll go in your sweep Wattle. This is the first non-working Melbourne Cup for me too. This time last year I think I was just about to fall pregnant, or maybe I already was. I had no idea yet of course. Wow, imagine if someone had said to me "this time next year you will be engaged and have a beautiful baby boy and be happier than you have ever been".

Gosh, what a leap.

To make it a bit Melbourne Cup ish in this house this year I am going to ...turn on the TV

Nuptials: the trouble with this wedding biz is that we can't really have a halfway type small thing. I suppose everyone has this problem which is how they mutate into something bigger. If we don't elope then we have to have a bit of a get-together, and if we do that then my parents would want to come, but if my parents come I feel like we have to do something a bit fancier because they would be coming from overseas. Thats the main dilemma.

And there are ten people just from one small branch of my family who all live in NSW and I have to invite them all. Yes, you can say "no you don't just invite who you want" but of course its never as simple as that and yes, I would have to invite them all, and that's ten flippen people already, without any of my friends or anything or DP's family or friends yet.

Anyway, boring.

I can relate to the wedding thing...it is very hard to manage. in the end I bit the bullet and didn't invite OS rellies because I too wanted a small casual wedding (I hate being the centre of attention and found the idea of a big wedding made me :barf: - literally!) and the pressure is terrible. at the time it caused endless bickering with everyone who wanted a piece of it. aaaaargh. remembering it all like that only a mad woman would agree to a wedding. i love having the photos now though...another example of how giving advice is very easy

I had no idea yet of course. Wow, imagine if someone had said to me "this time next year you will be engaged and have a beautiful baby boy and be happier than you have ever been".

.

My husband pointed out that it would by Charlotte's 'first birthday' soon and I shot him down, until I realised what he was talking about :D We didn't have a clue either for another 6 weeks or so, because we weren't officially 'trying'....just seeing what came!

wrapping - we do a 1/2 wrap - in a light material, I wrap from just under her arms, then I do a looser wrap which I put her arms into.... that way her hands are wrapped to start the sleep, but she can get them out to suck on when she wakes through the night (another 9 hour night last night:smiliedance: !!!!) and put herself back to sleep

Charlotte has started to hold onto things that are put in front of her (not rings/rattles etc, but will grab the foot of her jolly bear) just so she can shove them in her mouth!!! She loves shoving her nappies (ie the spew rag variety) in there too....must like the towelling texture. She's now 12 1/2 weeks and no laughter yet (just huge silent smiles) - really looking foward to it though. She'll be meeting all three of her great grandmothers this weekend on our trip to Sydney, so bring it on before the weekend! I think i mentioned that we are going down for DH's Dad's 50th, but I don't think i mentioned it is a costume party......we have to go as something starting with our first initial, so Charlotte is going as a ........(drum roll...) cotton ball!!!!! She looks so cute! DH pilfered some velcro spots from work, so we've covered an old beanie and wondersuit ith cotton balls...I'm soooo looking foward to it (would love to have a few drinks though...always helps with DH's side of the family...I'll live I suppose...have my brothers wedding next weekend...that will be harder (not that I'm a bigdrinker anytime, but knowing that I can't/have to limit makes me want to drink!!!)

Jessie - how did the Northside meet go last week?? Murrumba Downs is a little harder for me to get to (being a non-driver), so I gave it a miss. Hopefully the next one will be more train/bus friendly

me - soooooooooo looking foward to next week - first the trip to Sydney (Sat-Mon), then Wednesday I have been asked to be teacher speaker at the year 12 graduation, Thursday night is the formal, Friday night is DH's formal and then my brother gets married Saturday - YEAH!!! Lots of excuses to get dressed up (because it's been a while) and get Charlotte dressed in all of her girly clothes since she's now reached the 00 size

oh forgot my funny story for the week...I was at Chermside shopping for DH's birthday and was really packing up the pram. Stopped for lunch, and picked Charlotte up for a cuddle, and the whole pram feel over backwards:eek: I've never seen so many people jump up in such a hurry...they obviously thought that there was a bub in there too.....taught me not to put too much on the handles, or at least put something in the front if i take the baby out...I was highly embarressed, but gave me the giggles later on:D

Oh and have found out two of my friends are pregnant (one owrk college, on uni friend) so now up to my third bub due next year! I think SIL to be (next weekend) will be racing for it too....she's already told me that she'll race me for next grand child, and I told her she's welcome to it!!!!!

Hey ladies... yeah DF rented a Ute this morning... we went for a nice long walk (So long that my tummy was hurting) to get to the rental place (seeing that we have no other way of transport and hate taking taxis)... So he has a ute for the week. During that week he has to get a loan and buy either a new van or ute for himself. It just means that I have to put off getting my hair extentions for a few weeks but I guess thats ok- the longer I have to wait, the longer I will have them for... if you get what I mean!
I really need to go do some work on the jewellery im making today. Ive become abit addicted to the computer over the last few days- as DF got wireless so I can have the laptop anywhere in the house with me. This now means I never get off the puter. I think it was better when we didnt have wireless. At least then I did other things!
Elsha is good, she seems to be getting so fricken huge. I guess shes the same size as most babies her age, but wow, just looking at her- she is so big to me! Shes started liking her playmat abit more now. I can leave her on there for 10mins without her having a cry :smiliedance: I really need to get her a rattle or some kind of toy that makes noise... so far we have gone with the safe option of 'no-noise' toys but she doesnt seem to be really interested in toys much, so maybe something that does something besides sit there would interest her?
Anyways, Id better be off. REALLY need to shut this comp off and do something around the house.

Shed - I'll help you plan the wedding-you-don't-want-to-have. My wedding dress was my design, made especially for me, in fabric I chose and cost $400! Otherwise, we were going to elope and go to Disneyland instead!

wrapping - we still wrap, though I want to try to wean DD off it before the heat hits. I really don't want to have to wrap her up when it's 35 degrees. I put her to bed a little while ago and wrapped her tightly but with her fists up on her chest, instead of hands by her sides. I've heard a few squeaks but I think she's asleep :fingerscrossed:

Uh-oh, Dh has just come home - I'd better go and look busy. Will be back later to catch up more!

This has been me for weeks and weeks and weeks, so don't think you're the only one (and I even went searching How to pages like I first did trying to find out what DH etc meant!!! definitely not into shorthand)...then finally a couple of days ago it clicked.....I'm pretty sure it's 'Aunt Flow' (not a term I use usually so I know why it didn't come to me automatically)....please correct me if I'm wrong though!

Hi Guys,..... Does anyone do what I do, and read all the posts, making mental notes of what to reply to,..click reply,..and then go blank! I have no idea of what to write!!!!

It has just taken me an hour to put Scarlett down to sleep,..every time I think she is asleep, I close her bedroom door, only to have her arrive in the loungeroom 5seconds later with a 'Hi there Mummy!",....mmmmmm,.....and now when she does 'naughty stuff' she has taken to giving me a kiss,..... cheeky devil!

Lottiesmum! I am a bit disappointed about your treechange! Are we talking Blue Mountains???? We moved to Marrickville so that we could buy a house big enough and with a decent size backgarden,..that was a treechange enough for me!! I agree though about Norton St Fruit market/Deli - we do all our shopping there,..mmm..the proscuitto is to die for! We should still organise a meetup though,... What does your DH do?

Shed - its all about the client love! There is nothing wrong with having a really strict budget,..makes things easier really,....

Wattle - I'll be in your Melbourne Cup Sweep,..I may even put on a hat! Or at least a big red flower!

Toys - Jasper can hold onto stuff - but only if you give it to him,... he does reach for the dangly things on his playgym though and snares the arm of the monkey! He can also 'sit' on his rolls of fat! He gets a lean going after a short time though,....and I don't think it does his back any good leaving him sitting,.... cute though!

I'm afraid.

It's Tuesday afternoon. Asher hasn't done a poo since last Wednesday.

I'm very afraid.

He's been farting like a pneumatic drill. Really stinky farts, at that.

I'm VERY afraid.

I changed his nappy earlier and discovered an orange mist left behind by an explosive fart.

I'm really VERY VERY afraid.

I'm off to put clingfilm around everything we own. And maybe strap a bucket to the poop-machine.

I just hope he does the poo in the evening, when one of us can clean him while the other cleans the ceiling ...

shed can you have an engagement party that is actually a surprise wedding? that way only the people that really love you will come and it can just be in a nice park or if you know someone with a great house/backyard .... or if you have a great house/backyard ....
that way you can invite everyone but if people can't be bothered traveling just for an engagement party (ie don't love you enough to make the trip!) then they don't get to see you in a pretty dress marrying the love of your life .....

just a thought.

well just home from hanging out with mum. i don't want to ***** about it because that won't help the situation ..... bits were hard, bits were ok ... but it's done now so i won't think about it anymore.i don't know how to explain the situation ..................................... basically i just get along much much better with my dad.

the thing is though, it would BREAK my heart if bella and i ever had the relationship that my mum and i have ..........

anyway. off to real-life mums group now ...... bye online mums group

RE: Wrapping...

I still wrap El all the time. Infact, at night, we put her in one of those suits, wrap her and then once shes asleep she goes into a sleeping bag. She sweats like a mofo but she just wont sleep if she isnt in all 3 of those! Im definatly going to have to start making a change to this... summer is going to be a killer and I dont want her to overheat on me! Especially when we go camping, we wont have the aircon to help us keep cool

yes ..... that does my head in also. in a big way. remember when we were all talking about our toilet habits ......... ah memories. but it seriously doesn't seem that long ago!
and now we're all expected to actually know a bit about being a mummy ....... scary.

well we just got back from bella's 8 weekchidhood health centre visit (done when she was ten weeks cause i didn't organise it in time!). she's only put on something like 670g in 8 weeks ..... :gloomy: i'm not COMPLETELY worried because she has lots of wet nappies, a poo every second or so day, is growing out of her clothes (hello 00's!) and settles after feeding etc ...................... but it wasn't the best mummy moment to find that out. apparently reflux babies are often borderline with their weight gain so thats reassuring i suppose .....
anyway enough of that. i know b and i know she's growing, so enough moping about the scales.

in other sad news, i think i have the flu  i was worried cause i thought it might be the dreaded blocked duct/mastitis rearing its ugly head again, but THANK GOODNESS it's just the flu/cold.
however, i've discovered it's never "just the flu" when there's someone else who depends on you for everything ........................ if only i could just go to bed and sleep till tomorrow.
ah well

enough grumbling from me! hope everyone had a good day so far .....

Apparently those charts in the blue book are something like 10 years old and were designed and used for bottle-fed babies. They mean next to nothing for breastfed babies - the variations in weight gain there are huge and the range of perfectly healthy and thriving is equally huge.

Don't worry about Bella's weight gain until YOU think there is something to worry about.

Yes, stinky-pants is certainly getting me back for the complaints ... but I only complained for the last month! He's been getting me back for nearly 3 already! Boy, does he hold a grudge or what?

Has anyone heard from Adele? I hope she is ok as I know she was a bit depressed a while back. It wasnt anything that was said in this thread that upset her.

On another note .. good news! I took Eli to the doctors to get her hip checked out and the doctor said that it is fine, if anything her knee had a very slight click but not her hip, its just the pressing down on the knee whilst rotating the hip that did it, so I am really happpy about that!
I just been sorting out life insurance - decided that it needed to be updated not that we have dd to think about, I am really happy that I have sorted that out, not that I want to ever need it of course, just peace of mind really
Had a lovely day today spent almost the entire day on the lounge watching tv with no top on and just a nappy on Eli, decided to go with Beany's suggestion of skin to skin contact in order to increase milk production.. heheh, I am glad that nobody came to the door or anything..but dh came home and thought all his christmasses had come at once, with me wandering around half naked ... hmmm... poor guy..

LP thats great about Elise's hip,.. I remember when I took Scarlett to the Paediatric Orthopedic Surgeon (mouthful!!),..and saw little ones (about 8weeks) in these terrible harnesses,.... trussed up like little chickens,... no chance to have nappy off time,..or to kick about like they love to do,....It was terrible! So I am very relieved that Elise is ok,.....phew! Oh,..and your day yesterday sounds lovely,... sometimes I just wish that Scarlett would stop for a while so that I don;t miss out too much on Jasper,...he is getting big so quickly,... I remember when Squidg was little, I was breastfeeding her,..and very absent minded,...and the doorbell rang,..well I answered the door without a stitch of clothing on from my waist up! I never found out what the chap wanted,..he turned and ran!

Mama Anne - was it you worrying about your little ones weight? I really wouldn't put much into the weighing and scales etc,.......if your baby seems happy and content, then she is doing just fine! Some babies grow faster than others,...is all! And the scales in the back of the blue books are 30yrs old and were based on Formula fed babies in the USA,..so that is why even massive babies seem to be only on the 50% percentile,..they are planning on updating them,.....

Any poo yet for Asher??? Since being on the Nan-na juice, Jasper has been pooing like a racehorse! So,..thanks for that advice,.......

Must go,... Mum and Dad are taking Squidg for the day,....so I have to go and help her ladyship get dressed,..... She has to choose her outfits,..or I get a very loud "NO Mummy, NO!!",......jeez,......yesterday she chose a lovely Fred Bare kaftan dress,..some shell beads from Vanuatu,..and Swimming Goggles!!!!! I tried to tell her she looked retarded in them,..but no,....she wore them all day! With her little ears folded like cauliflowers,...sigh,.....

morning all!

well DS had another 7pm -4am night, so am thinking (hoping...praying you get the picture) that this might be a routine?!

Poor Harry gets his immunisations tomorrow

beany - i had such a giggle about Asher's poo! Harry has been on the every 3 days routine for a couple of weeks now. on day 3 i'm always too scared to take him out and approach the day with great trepidation. i cannot imagine the amount of poo that comes out after over a week. Good luck - maybe you should start wearing a raincoat

Noosamum: I'd love to be your cousin - it would give me an excuse to visit Noosa. I lurve Noosa...but alas no. Although clearly your cousin has excellent taste when it comes to naming her babies ;)

LP: yay for elise's hips, you must be relieved.

S&J - be thankful Scarlett wants to wear her dresses!! my little tomboy has a closet full of pretty dresses but insists on wearing a ratty pair of trackies which are well and truly past their use by date. she wears them every day - drives me crazy. i've tried asking nicely, i've tried being bossy, i've even resorted to bribery. but its kind of cute too.

mama anne - gosh those ECN's love to make a drama of weight...if Bella's nappies are in order and she's growing out of her 000's she must be thriving! do you have the Babylove book? there's a great over view of weight and weight gain which you might find comforting. Harry is still in his 000 and our bubs are only a few days apart. I've no idea what he weighs...his 8 week check is tomorrow. take it easy and try not to worry :hugs:

I finally got DP to agree to change a nappy last night but it didn't quite go to plan. I handed him the nappy, showed him the right way to put it on (he put it on backwards in his last effort but I saw through that ruse) and he sat down, opened the nappy and went "nup, this is your one" and walked off!!

But he didn't do it up again!! ewww. everywhere.

The least he could do is do it up again. You know the drill ladies, you grab a couple of wipes, open the nappy and quickly do it up again when you realise that you will need reinforcements LOL.

I might go and get Baden weighed tomorrow (betcha I don't!). He is a solid little blighter but he doesn't have 'rolls' on his thighs like some babies do. He has fat legs but not rolls. He's not a fat baby, he's just quite solid all over.

I am going to visit a friend of mine's daughter's new baby tomorrow. oooh a newborn!! how lovely!! with skinny bandy legs and unfocussed eyes and a squishy little head. oh I can't wait. She has a house full of pink because the scan said girl, so now the third of her three boys will have a pink bassinette. She's not disappointed at all apparently, she's quite happy to be the mother of sons, so that's pretty cool.

I know exactly how it feels when everyone forgets your birthday. Such a depressing feeling isnt it? Specially when you make the effort to call or sms or email everyone you know on their birthdays. (I recieved NO 'happy birthdays' on my 21st this year from my group of so called 'best mates'. I was sooooo angry... I was OS at the time, but that has nothing to do with it, I still had my mobile on me. And when I came back from OS, I had a birthday lunch and most of my friends didnt turn up because it was on a Sunday and they were too hung over to make an appearance. Great friends eh? Ahwell, ive since been totally abandoned by them because I was pregnant... Anyways... im rambling.)

Happy Birthday Noosamum!happybirthday :hugs:

I am so THERE with you guys regarding birthdays!! None of my family seemed to remember it was my Birthday this year as they were all so focused on bub, as you know I spent my birthday in Labour and dd was born on my birthday, so I figure, my birthdays are now a thing of the past as it is Elise's birthday we will be celebrating instead .. I dont mind really though, at least I have an outside chance of getting a piece of birthday cake every year!!

Jessi: Tie-dyed baby! Terribly cute!

Wattle: are you kidding? Taking my camera in there would have melted the lens off! You know the worst thing? Even though there was enough poo there to sink (and stink) a battle ship, I get the feeling there's more to come yet. I'm still afraid.

Noosamum: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope your husband got you something nice, at least ... if not, step on his toe.

J_S: I'm glad the NAN declogged Jasper. I've retired a nearly full tin of S26 and bought another tin of NAN for emergency situations. Apart from anything else, the NAN smelled more pleasant!

Scarlett seems to be of the same fashion school as my niece. Many years ago, when she was the same age as Scarlett, she picked out her outfit: dungarees, t-shirt, sandals ... and a swimming cap. What is it with these girls and water accessories?

(If anyone is interested in the tin of S26, you're more than welcome to it. It was opened last week so still has 3 weeks of perfectly-good-ness. Failing that, I'll give it to my MIL's cat - see whether he likes it :D )

There's more farting from the bedroom!

...

If you don't hear from me in a couple of days, send a rescue team ...

OMG Beany - PMSL... laughing *with* you of course, not *at* you! Good luck if there's more to come!

Noosamum - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

kristi001 - I'm in a similar situation as you. DD is off her bottles too. She's offered 150ml bottles and should be having 5. She'll empty maybe 2 of them, the others she might have half, and often she'll only "have" 4... If she hasn't improved I'll take her to the clinic tomorrow. If I'm not happy with what they say I'll take her to our GP. I'm not overly worried because she's happy and content, but it can't be good!

DD nearly gave me a giggle this morning. It sounded like the start of one anyway so hopefully a real one won't be far away. And she's not holding toys or anything interesting yet. She's only just starting to spend more than 5 hours a day out of bed!

Littlepickle - way to go on the birthday baby. My DS was born on my 30th birthday. I love that it's a special bond between DS and I. Nothing is ever going to change our special day!

J_S - so glad the Nan has done it's job for Jasper. We're big fans of it. Although with DD not drinking much right now the poops have slowed down which worries me a little....

And speak of the little angel - she's just woken for lunch. let's see how much she'll drink today...

Ok I need to vent. I am rather ****ed off with the local mchn. I have been asking her for ages about the mothers group, she kept saying she would have it up and running soon. Well dd is 10 weeks now and I still haven't heard anything. So I rang her, and she said that there's one starting tomorrow. Great, I thought. Then she said "Oh but it's only for first time mums".

What the???????????? Apparantly they don't get funding for 2nd time mums to attend. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. So there's no way I can get to know other new mums in my area unless I go to a playgroup. Playgroup is for older kids with waiting lists months long. Grrrrrrrrr. I'm cross.

shed
08-11-2006, 13:01
oh wattle, are you 'cross'??

What about 'browned off', thats another thing my mother says.

Sorry, I know you're not happy, but you made me smile. Tell them you can have the funding for my place in a mother's group.

I was very 'cross' last night. I asked DP to look after bubby while I hung out the washing. So they come outside and my baby is screaming his lungs out. He is NOT a screamer, he hardly even cries, so I was immediately freaked out.

DP had let the door hit my baby in the head!!! He said he was preoccupied kicking the dog out of the way and the door was too quick.

Gorrrrrrrrrd, at this rate I will never be able to go to the gym.

Of course I completely overreacted and was very upset. Its very difficult to see your precious little man with a bright red mark on his head and he was NOT a happy camper at all. I took him inside and put him on the boob and he calmed down a bit, the poor little darling.

Stupid daddy.

7.5kg,.... can you believe it?!?!? I thinkI was impregnated by some sort of Alien lifeforce,...and now they are making me feed up their spawn so that he can take over the world,..

Beany - Wooooaaahhhhhh,....... that's all I have to say about that!

Shed - yes,....stupid Daddy,.... sometimes they simply don't think! Mike did the same thing the other day,..was holding Jasper and he was screaming,...(I just wanted to have a wee by myself for Gods sake),.so Mike sat there looking at him,..I came out of the bathroom, and said 'His leg is stuck underneath him,..!" I had to say it about 10 times before he finally got it,...sigh,...stupid daddy,....

Re: Swimming Goggles,....I have hidden them now,.... along with the washing machine my brother bought her yesterday,.. a bloody washing machine! Sure it is small,.and it doesn[t take water,..but it makes all the same sounds and has a very dynamic spin cycle,...and EVERYTHING goes into it,.... pegs, my car keys, pretzels,.etcl,.etc,.etc,.. it is driving me balmy!

Hey Jess,..love the hippie gear! Jasper has the same jumpsuit! He wore it to bed last night,...we also have pink and blue tie dyed muslin wraps,.. much more interesting than the plain white ones!

Happy Birthday Noosasmum,..hope you have a lovely day today in leiu,....

Cross Wattle,..? hehehe! Nanna!!!!!! They did the same thing to us first time around,..never got a mothers group happening,......which I am kind of pleased about,..I hate that sort of forced socialising,..I don;t really like people that much! But surely, you can just find out where it is on, and turn up? Not like they can really turn you away,........you can be the 'expert'!?!?!?!?!?

To all those bubbas who are not drinking that much,....have you tried putting a faster teat on the bottle? We use the pigeon peristaltic (sp?) bottles,...with the teats that mould like a nipple to the roof of their mouths,.....and have just gone up a teat to a y shaped one,..that way they can control the flow - fast if they are hungry and slow if they are not,..... that way they drink more before they get tired or bored,..not that we have to worry about that!

Must go,..Scarlett is climbing into Jaspers cot whilst he is trying to have a sleep,...poor little munchkin,..

Riley is fussing over his feeds as well, I can barely get anything into him... I will go buy some faster teats tonight.

Shed.. DH was bathing Riley the other day. We have one of those baths under the change table.. DH had not put the change table up enough and if fell on Riley's head... poor little bugger.. I guess Daddy's just are as experienced as us Mummy's...
About Mothers Groups I went to mine today... we are going to a 5 week parenting class.. the lady told us that dummies have there place but not to associate them to sleeping... (even though my clinic nurse said it is ok to use them as long as it is only for sleeping) then later she was talking about taking the dummy of her daughter 2 weeks before her 1st birthday.. her daughter had one for sleeping.. eish practice what you preach love!!!!! as if us new mums are confused enough!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone and thanks for the birthday wishes, I felt a bit flat about it all this morning and when I went to do the groceries, I bought myself some black pearl drop earrings - nothing like a bit of retail therapy to put the spring back into a girl's step

Clio found her feet today - soooo funny and then she kept smiling at them lol - that was even funnier!

LP - thanks for letting us know that it was nothing on this thread that upset Adele, I'm none the wiser as to what happened but happy to know it wasn't on the August thread - we're all soooo nice ........

Cathy - I would just show up any way and plead ignorance

Jane - we have that same washing machine (or one like it) - it chews up the batteries like you won't believe!!

mrs p - hope you are feeling better, meant to say this the other day, if not, I can ressurrect the purple dancing hippo if need be :p

 waves to beany (I think you should buy some fisherman's waders, you know the ones that come up to the waist, and a plastic poncho and some plastic elbow length gloves , industrial strength goggles, oh, and an oxygen tank with a long hose so you can move around freely :p )....

Maybe it's a baby thing -- I had a sucky b'day this year, too! Sounds like everyone just looks at the cute thing beside us and forgets about us for a while! Happy b'day for yesterday, noosamum! happybirthday BTW, those pics of your daughter are so cute. She looks like she had a great day.

Going to try and go and get some rest now. A bat crashed into the sliding glass door on our bedroom last night, knocked itself out for about five minutes, screeched like mad for a bit after that and then got up and flew away. This woke the boy up and my daughter and it was all downhill from there (my husband was away working nights). No-one got much sleep after this (about 3am). Even the cats went nuts!

I got that shirt last year at Woodford Folk Festival. I wasnt even pregnant then. I thought it was SUPER cute and had to buy it. I found out 5 days later that I was pregnant. Crazy eh?
Cant wait to head back to the festival again this year, gonna deck El out for the next year in colourful gear! :)

Shed- DF hurt El last night too. He went to lay her down but didnt quiet put her on the ground. Probably dropped her about 5cms, sure its a small amount BUT you could tell it hurt. She screamed and screamed. And then he thought she was just being silly and shut her in her room. I ended up in tears, I couldnt believe he did that! He just makes MINIMAL effort with her... no wonder she doesnt like going to him. Hes a big fat meany to her.

LOL Noosa, I did have fun with the purple dancing hippo, until she started dancing on my head. fortunately she's buggered off again for now, but might be fun to see her again one evening :)

And I have to ask why Uniquey is so special that she gets 2 mentions?? :p

S_J - yes we've tried the faster teats, but she kind of drowns right now with them. We use Avent bottles.

DD also seems to be puking a lot more in the last month than she has before... I always thought reflux got better as the bubs got bigger. Does anyone know anything about it? Is it possible that she's acquired it recently?? We're off to the clinic tomorrow anyway so I'll pick their brains then.

Hi Jessi, Beany, AlliJB, Noosamum, littlejoy, uniquey. Wattle, LP, S_J, Lottiesmum, AmandaW, Kristi, Mama Anne, Tashmusa, and anyone else Ive accidently forgotten

Mrs Potts..... We were using some avent bottles and found that James was drowning in them also. We found he prefered the Nuk ones with the hole on the top of the nipple instead of the end. So when he wants it he can get it and when he doesnt he isnt choking..... the only down side of using these nipples is that they dont fit on other bottles. James has had a recent thing with reflux. Not always just sometimes. I asked the CHN and was told it would be because he guzzles his bottle sometimes more than others. Which is true but Im sure he has been doing that before the reflux appeared. Curious to know what advice you are given. Always amuses me how they all say something different and often conflict with others and sometimes themselves

Someone mentioned before being told that the Gold bit on the formulas is useless. DH was curious about it as we had been told differently. So he had a quick look and he said the main difference is that the Gold provides Omega 3's which are good for lots of things including brain development. This is just based on the S 26 so Im not sure on other brands/

DH had his final exam for uni today and yippee should be able to start casual teaching in about 2 weeks and will be able to perm teach in the New Year. DS weighed in at 4.9kg at his CHN appointment. I was worried about how little he is compared to Asher, Jasper and a few others. The nurse said he is fine. I guess I gotta remember that he is over a month younger than some of the bubbas in here.

After a few mentioned Christmas shopping the other week Ive been racking my mind on what to buy my lot. Havent had much luck locally for some reason we dont get all the ranges of stuff at Myer and David Jones in Wollongong because we are considered a country town! Umm hello?? I didnt realise I had to ride my horsey alllll the way into the Township and remember to tie it up before I go to those fan-ceeee shops. Yes Im a little frustrated shopping local now as I didnt BB (before baby). So Ive decided its time I initiated my son into Sydney strip shopping in Paddington and might also make a trip to Petes at Kensington. Ive been promising to take MIL for sooo long as she never shops in Sydney and DH (who isnt a city driver at allll) will have to drive as she only sits in the front seat. She drives me bonkers when I drive. I will also have to put DS in the carry harnessy thing which he isnt real keen on. Should be fun!

Question- Is anyone finding being on mat leave a bit 'different'. Im enjoying it and love the time with DS. I have no desire to be back at work anytime soon (Im not expected back until July 2008) but it seems most of my friends are at work. Theres a few that have kids but their kids are older. So Im at a bit a loss with outside discussions besides family and well you guys of course :) . Im going to have to find a playgroup and I even find that a bit daunting. Having always worked mostly with men Im not sure Im a girls girl.... But anyhow finding a playgroup is my task for next week. Ive been doing a catch up on some genealogy research this week and hope to finish that first..

Anyhoo hope all are well or on the mend. I too have noticed that Raffee is MIA hope everything is ok??

Oh, LP did you find the lactation cookies made a difference??

i was a little annoyed :shame:

reflux mrs potts - bella has reflux, the gp told us it normally gets better around the time they can sit up for themselves, and when they start solids ..... some bubs can have it long term though, so :fingerscrossed: neither yours or mine is longterm.

Cathy- I was puzzled when you said you were waiting for mother's group, cause I knew it was only for fist timers. we have finished our group but ae still catching up correct me if I am wrong but I think you are in Oakleigh South, I am in Mulgrave it might be a bit too far for you but you are welcome to join us, I will PM you the details of the next meeting (as soon as I get them) if you want to join us.
shed- cyber hugs for your DS:hugs: , poor thing
noosamum-happybirthday
S-J- well done on the weight gain, soon he can sit in a forward facing car seat how cool is that.
missie-mack the gold on he S26 is only useless if you are half BFing and half formula, cause they can get enough omega3's from BF. For a fully formula fed baby it is very important. and also

always worked mostly with men Im not sure Im a girls girl....
ummm me too mybe that is why I am so eager to go back to work feb-march ish next year. aouch reality hurts:o

 to everyone else

me-
elli has been co-sleeping with us for the last couple of nights and this morning I wokeup to find blood stain on my pillow, her hand and her ear, the little bugger had her first ever bloody injury, and all from excessively pulling and scratch her own ear.
what is it with her pulling her own ear till it goes red I wonder!!!!!!

question do you think if I keep half of my dry S2Gold in freezer than I could use it for a bit longer than 4 weeks, I have only manged to finish half of each of the two cans I have used so far, cause DD is half BFing. It feels like such a waste, specially now that I am not working

Re: the gold element in formula,..I steer away from it, as the omega 3 smells like fish going down and even worse coming up!

Hi Parisa,..sorry to hear about DDs face,.... I haven't encountered any injury yet,..thank goodness! I know Jas seems big, but he doesn't have the head control to be in a forward facing seat yet,...so backwards it will be for a little bit longer,.. how are all your bubbas doing with their heads? A little wobbly still????

Also - to all those with boys,...have any of you thought about circumcision? I am just asking cause I was thinking about the whole thing the other day (my husband is jewish), and the thought of anyone even touching Jaspers perfect little willy, let alone hurting him, made me sick to my stomach,.. thank god Michael is against it as I am,... I cry when he gets his vaccinations for goodness sake!

We are not having Riley circumcised much to my MIL's dismay!!!!! I have even been told that if we don't have him done he will smell... errggghhh!!!! and that he will always get infections and have to get it done when he is older when it will hurt... why is that people don't think it hurts them now!!!???!!!!
Uniquey I will do my best to get a photo today. My DH is going to a good home also for snoring maybe we could have a sale .... buy one get the second one 50% off.. just so they are gone a little quicker!!!!
Reflux - Mrs Potts - Our Paediatrician said that it does get better with age but that some babies vomit up until 12 months:eek: Riley still vomits a far bit some days more than others. He said there is nothing much that can be done about it until the valve on the stomach matures (or something to that effect). He said that you can see them mouthing when they are refluxing and the milk is coming back up and that if you "stand" them up or at least not have them lying on their backs it can help with the acid as it makes the milk go back down. I found that sitting Riley up further when I am feeding him helps.... just make sure that there is no air in the teat. Also I found that he doesn't vomit quite so much with the Nuk bottles????
parisakamali - I wouldn't risk it with the formula.. throw it.

It was me who mentioned the Gold formulas. I didn't actually say it was useless, just that we were advised that it didn't make enough of a difference to justify the added cost. Yes Omega3 is good for brain function etc, but the gold variety wasn't even around when DS was born and not having it hasn't harmed him any. He's in Kindy and currently reading at grade 2/3 level. We also noticed it smelled much worse, both going in and coming out (either end!).

No circumcision here for DS. Wasn't even a consideration for us.

Parisa - I agree with littlejoy. I wouldn't risk the formula either. Maybe in future buy the sachets instead of tins. It's more expensive - but not as expensive as throwing it out if it doesn't get used.

DD is asleep now so I should go and have a shower. Then this arvo we're off to the clinic. Wish us luck :banghead:

Hope the rest of you have a tremendous day!

get it done when he is older when it will hurt... why is that people don't think it hurts them now!!!???!!!!

At least when he's older, he can have anaesthetic. Little babies can't ...

I was determined to get any boys I had circumcised, due to religious motivations, much to my husband's dismay. About 2 years ago, I changed my mind (after hefty research) and boy oh boy am I glad that the whoopsie that is Asher happened after the mind-change!

I cried during his vaccinations in hospital, the heel ***** test, 2 month vaccinations ... and I wasn't even in the room for any of those! Goodness, my heart was breaking when he had a headache .. a headache! The thought of anyone cutting bits of him makes me go cold.

Except his hair. I wish someone would do something about that mullet he's got going on back there!

Hi Ladies... How are we all? Im so excited, despite us having a bad week with cars... we got approved for a loan and we are getting a new car. It will be DF's work car, but we will use it as a family car when we go on trips. Its a Black 4x4 Nissan Navara Dual Cab ute... ahhh so beautiful! We get it next week :smiliedance: We are so so excited because its our first NEW car.
In other news, someone has gotten my password for my Myspace page and has been posting crazy bulletins under my name! I think im going to have to make a new page! :( Damn it- that page took me forever!!!
This weekend, I am going to catch a train down to the Gold Coast with El, and we are going to a big hippy do on the beach on saturday. This will be so exciting for El and I as it will be the first time she will meet alot of my hippy friends... and it will be her first time at the beach! AND the first time she would have heard bongo drumming and seen firetwirling! Hehe, im stoked to finally introduce her to the things that I did before I got pregnant!
Anyways, gotta go and work on some art stuff!
Peace & Love ladies xo

Reflux - Mrs Potts - Our Paediatrician said that it does get better with age but that some babies vomit up until 12 months:eek: Riley still vomits a far bit some days more than others. He said there is nothing much that can be done about it until the valve on the stomach matures (or something to that effect).

I was reading on another thread about how turning bubs upside down 50 times a day can help to strenthen this valve (ie sitting on couch legs apart. hug bubs to your chest and lean foward so that their head is lower than your knees). A couple of people there swore by it, so may be worth a try - it nothing else, Charlotte thinks its great fun with smiles all round....I think she's mostly an overfull chucker....tends to be worse of a morning when I'm trying to drown her in milk!

we have an odd CHN too - yesterdat she measured Charlotte at 57cm when the paed get her at 59 cm 3 weeks ago....and all she said was 'that's odd'...didn't even double check.....weird, weird woman

just bumping an issue from a post last week regarding bubs on flights - when did people feed...was it the whole time seatbelt sign was on, just when plane sped up directly before takeoff, etc etc. S+J gave me glyserol as an option (when silly me forgot to ask the chn about yesterday...off to the chemist for me today) but do want feeding as a backup just in case shes still won't take the dummy - any answers greatly appreciated

Amandaw - re the flying. You only need to fly when you're actually taking off, as in wheels leaving the ground, and landing/descending. It's just to help bubs ears pop during the change in cabin pressure. If bub is asleep though, you don't need to worry about it.

Okay, this is a wedding post. Indulge me, I promise not to hijack the thread with my wedding cr*p, I just need help making a decision between wedding and eloping...

Did anyone see A Current Affair last night where they had "How to save money on your wedding"?

I watched it to pick up some tips and there was one girl that spent 60 grand or something, I can't remember, and one girl that spent 5 grand.

The 5 grand one was just awful, awful, awful. And the 60 grand one was just awful, awful, awful. First one was so bogan-y, purple couch-material dresses off ebay for the bridesmaids, oh dear, oh no.

The second one was so w@nky waste of money on stupid things-y. I loathe all that frilly bits-and-pieces stuff and showing off. I'm 37 and we have a baby so I want it a bit toned down LOL.

So my guess is that it costs somewhere in between 10 grand and about 30 grand for a wedding?

Okay, heres what I want. Jane and other married people, give me an estimate of what you reckon this might cost:

I want something quite small (50 people max), very elegant but not OTT, no bonbonieres or whatever, tasteful dress - a bit "bridey" but not Muriel, one bridesmaid (don't care what she wears), one best man, no flash cars thanks, good photographer but not more than say $1500.

Nice cake but nice as in flavour, not nice as in "frillyness" and this can be the dessert for everyone, so quite big (or could just have spare out the back? do people do that? - if they don't they should! what a good idea!).

Good, good, food and plenty of it, don't skimp on the food, but a buffet, not that thing where they come round and every second person gets one thing and every person in between gets the other (coz I always want the one I didn't get and I don't want that for people at my wedding  ).

Um, good DJ, hired MC coz we don't know anyone that would do it properly.

Umm, what else? A bagpiper at the entrance to the ceremony, when people walk in before I get there (my present to myself, I looooooooooove this).

Oh, nice flowers for me and bridesmaid and buttonhole for DP and best man, but no corsage-y extra bits and pieces for mothers of brides or hangers on, nup.

Venue: a small winery, or B&B type place with a nice garden and a place for the nosh-up afterwards. We don't want a "reception" we want a party with food afterwards. Maybe somewhere we can stay the night, but if not, that's cool.

Whadda ya think?

Or we could elope to either Coffs Harbour or overseas (not Fiji now since there is a coup or whatever).

Or we could just go to the registry and stop in and buy me a new car on the way home

excellent - thanks!!! I didn't know whether to feed her for the sake of it (just to ward off the evil cries in a crowded plane) or only if she got upset....I guess we'll see how she goes

Here's my take on it.....

[QUOTE=shed;795675]Okay, this is a wedding post. Indulge me, I promise not to hijack the thread with my wedding cr*p, I just need help making a decision between wedding and eloping...

If you're talking winery as a venue you're probaby looking at $100 a head for food and alcohol (though would depend entirely on where you're headed) - not sure that all wineries would do buffet style though as space in their function areas can be a little more restricted ....my brothers is 55 a head, not including alcohol

Look out for sales for your dress - my best friend picked up her dress (Wendy Makin design) for $250 here in Brissie and looked absolutely stunning...less beading will mean lower costs - Mum made mine, and it was $300 for the dress and $400 worth of crystals !!! probably looking $120ish for hair and makeup. If your not fussed, bridesmaid could chose and pay for her own dress (one that might actually be worn again ...just make sure she gets a cool pressie if that's the case! Same deal for groom/groomsman - either hire or buy as appropriate

Won't need cars if it's an all in one venue ...if you do decide elsewhere though, we hired Commadores (can you tell I'm not into cars...I don't even think that's spelt right)at $90 a day and just asked for three in similar colours (don't tell them it's a wedding - they charge extra...Dad just told them that we had a bunch of family flying in from OS and thought it would be easier to stay identify...we got a white, silver, and gold, so worked out really well)

I would have to say splurge on the photographer - we started out with a $1500 package and ended up with $4000 of album...I have absolutely no regrets as it is the best album I have seen and got lots and lots of comments (it even came with it's own suitcase and white gloves:laughing: )....no matter how much you spend, go with a photographer that will put all the photos on DVD - you'll save a hell of a lot in reprints....remember the photos are that lasting point....also we had the disposable cameras on the table (just normal kodak ones at $7 not the $20 wedding ones) and some of the best photos are from these as the photographer only stays for so long

Nice cake but nice as in flavour, not nice as in "frillyness" and this can be the dessert for everyone, so quite big (or could just have spare out the back? do people do that? - if they don't they should! what a good idea!).

Yes they do do this...but if you're going simple, you won't necessarily have to do this (mind you I've heard of people that decorate a polystyrene box out the front and just have the slab out the back!) - a two layered plain cake will probably still cost around the 150-200$ mark (could see if the winery have a specialty cake they do???) and you can decorate with fresh flowers to keep the costs down (I LOOOVED my cake...but it was $400 ...really the only extravagence (other than photos) that we had, but I don't regret it)

Good, good, food and plenty of it, don't skimp on the food, but a buffet, not that thing where they come round and every second person gets one thing and every person in between gets the other (coz I always want the one I didn't get and I don't want that for people at my wedding  ).

As I said before this may be a venue related issue - mind you there are some places that do allow you to 'order' as such on the day, so you may find it's an option

Um, good DJ, hired MC coz we don't know anyone that would do it properly
Umm, what else? A bagpiper at the entrance to the ceremony, when people walk in before I get there (my present to myself, I looooooooooove this).
Other than the DJ (probably 400) I have no idea about the other options...didn't even know that you could 'hire' an MC!

Oh, nice flowers for me and bridesmaid and buttonhole for DP and best man, but no corsage-y extra bits and pieces for mothers of brides or hangers on,
Again dependent on type of flowers used...my bouquet (which was tulips, lillies and white roses) was 300, and the corsages 15 - I actually ordered 80 white tulips from Coles for my bridesmaids, and we tied a ribbon round 20 each.....was certainly a cost effective option, and looked stunning against their dresses ($110 all up)

Venue: a small winery, or B&B type place with a nice garden and a place for the nosh-up afterwards. We don't want a "reception" we want a party with food afterwards. Maybe somewhere we can stay the night, but if not, that's cool.

- things to think about with an outdoor wedding (only from my brothers experience) do you want a red carpet for aisle ($150  I think it's a disgusting waste, but that's just me....will you have to hire chairs etc for outside (again, brother is getting charged for this), outside sound system costs..(the two outdoors weddings I have been to, we could hear nothing...not that it's about the guests, but I mean we were clueless, so the attention tended to wander...celebrant 200-400 (apparently) 2nd plan in case of rain

also points to think about - invites (actually, can't think of anything else at the moment)...ohh honeymoon, but you'll do that either way

Or we could just go to the registry and stop in and buy me a new car on the way home ....you could, but it's wonderful to feel like a princess for the day...it was one of the best days of my life...I know it sounds like we spent a fortune, but we did a lot of it ourself so we could splurge on the hooneymoon, photographs and not destroy out house deposit.....our reception was $85 a head but included alcohol, room set up and all decorations, flowers etc, all dresses were made by Mother and MIL, all invites and bonbonerie done by us etc.....I say go for it....I'm sure you won't regret it (but I do like the idea that someone else gave a banying it round as the engagement party, that way only the really important people will turn up....may want to give a few important people a heads up though, as I know my mother would have killed me if the lasting photos were taken in what she wore to our engagement party
