A little while ago my younger sister (who is 20) dropped a couple of "hints" that she would like a small baby shower. She is about 26? weeks ..... due end of Jan.
Last week I offered to organise one for her (she was over the moon!!) and asked her to write up a list of people she would like to come. She doesnt really have a huge group of friends and so there are mainly older people coming -- ie our mum, nans, aunties, then a couple of her friends and also their mums. All up I think there will be about 15.
Now, - organising this baby shower I think will be completely different to the one I had (my DD is 12m! now) - I was living in Brisbane with no family around me, but I had about 25 close friends/work colleges come and we played heaps of fun games and I gave them loads of champayne/wine & bickies/cakes and I gave them all gifts etc.
My sister is a very "low key" person and will not want any major fuss, but I do want the day to be special.....so if anyone can help with any suggestions on what I can do for her that would be great.
Thanks :)

PS. Oh - the date of the shower is 25 November, so I have a couple of weeks to get my bum into gear.

How about just having it over lunch & adding a few 'smaller' games. Also making cards for everyone to guess the babies DOB, weight, height etc etc and then giving them to the expectant mum. It's a great keepsake.

Good luck & sorry I can't think of any more ideas

Thanks for that - I did that at my baby shower and everyone loved it....so it should go down well at my sister's.

We are having it at 2pm, so just cakes & tea/coffee should be all I need food wise I guess??

I was also thinking of having everyone that comes fill out their name & address on a blank envelope and then at the end of the day we can draw a lucky door prize & the envelopes then can be used for her thank you cards......it made things easier when I did it.

Yep they sound like good ideas! Seems like you've got it all worked out. Cakes & tea/coffee is perfect for that timing I think- like an afternoon tea baby shower :)

I would probably have some finger sandwiches, mini quiches etc, because some people may not have lunch first. Plus you can always eat any leftovers for dinner or the next day.

Is your sister into anything like manicures or similar? Because(depending on how much you want to spend) you can get mobilke people to come out and pamper you. Or even better if you have a friend who would do a good job for free.

You could get everyone to decorate a baby singlet (not really to be worn, more of a keepsake). You can use ribbon, lace, fabric paint, heaps of things.

Plus its always nice to get everyone to write a message to the mum to be and the bub in a nice book that your sister can keep.

Hope that helps.

mmmm.......thanks miamama the book and singlet keepsakes sound like fab ideas:yelclap:
--- also, your right, by starting it at 2pm some people may think there will be some type of "lunch" food. You can buy those little party pack of hot food hey (like quiches/puffs/sausage rolls etc)......I may get a packet or 2 of those:yes:.

Another idea for a game (but one that's suitable for all age groups!) is to ask people to take along a photocopy of a baby photo of themselves, then stick all the photocopies onto a big sheet of paper and up onto the wall and everyone has to guess who is who.

I found this was a nice idea at my baby shower because everyone had to mingle and socialise a bit to figure out the names and faces...a good "getting to know you" kind of game.

wow -- the photo idea sounds great - I am sure everyone would enjoy that one! I havent sent her invitations out yet (still waiting for my sister to give me some addresses), so I should write it at the bottom of the invite to bring along a photo, or to drop it around to me beforehand so I can copy it.
:hugs: thanks for that

Hi Amanda,

I had a baby shower for my sister last wk'end, We did not play games but we made a book if handy hints and tips out of old pregnancy books and magazines and left some pages blank for everyone to write some hints/tips or nice words for her. We also bought a 40 by 50cm canvas and little wooden letters from spotlight and got everyone to paint and decorate a letter then I painted the canvas aqua and stuck all the letters on it. She loved it cause it was from everone there and it looks great on the nursery wall

Hope this helps
