My DS is now 7 1/2 mths old and has taken to solids really well. I'm still bf'ing but have cut down his feeds as he has started to eat a fair amount of solids and so don't want to overfeed him but by the same token I don't want him to not be getting anough milk either.
DS is eating 3 full meals a day and most often having a snack in arvos as well. Sometimes seems to want an extra bf so will occasionally will have extra feed after arvo snack but mostly seems to be ok with just 3 bf's. I tend to have a pretty large supply of milk so he gets approx 300-400 mls per feed and will sometimes drink water in between feeds if no interest shown in bf.
The main reason I'm concerned is that since eating more solids his weight gain has slowed down. I know babies are all individuals and so need different amounts but wasn't sure if there are rough guidelines for amounts at various ages?

Hi camcat,

It sounds as though your baby is feeding well - at this age milk is more important than solids but the slowing in weight gain may just be a natural tapering that happens in the second half of baby's first year as your baby becomes more active.

If you have concerns please check with your baby health nurse and ask whether she is using the new WHO weight charts for breastfed babies - breastfed babies have a slightly different profile than formula fed babies (a longer slower growth curve).
