OMG! Since when do Defence pay for you to meet him? My DF is in Afghan at the moment & we didnt get that option. They would pay for him to go to Rome, or back here but if I wanted to meet him it would be at our own cost.
My friends hubby is in Iraq & his ROCL was September. She flew to Rome to meet him but it was also all at her own cost.

Everyone from DPs unit has the option of a defacto or wife flying out at Defence expense. Only happening with guys from his unit so I'm assuming his unit is footing the cost, not many are taking that option anyway but my daughter is almost four so I said hell yes!
I wont ask any questions lol! PM me if you want my husbands unit at all.
You are very lucky - I would be taking advantage of it too! My DF's unit did 3 months pre-deployment training in Darwin & they couldnt even afford to send them back to Brisbane once a month like they said they would!
My DF has been told they might not even get ROCL because they are too busy - I'm really hoping that doesnt happen though.
When is your DP leaving?

Hi the defence normally pay for you to travel if you are married or defacto approved by the defence. my husband was in iraq and they would have paid for me to go to Rome but I was pregnant so he came home. I don't think it matters what unit they are in.
Hmmmmm.... Definately the first I have heard of it. I've asked a few other ADF partners & they havent been told of it either - I wonder if it depends on rank??

I would find out about it are you defacto approved by defence?
Yep, since 2002!
DF has been over there for nearly 6 weeks & his paperwork is already in saying he wants to come home, but if we had known this I would have flown over to meet him. It p**ses me off that they dont make this info common knowledge. Although, DF has gone over with 30 blokes attached to another unit & we were left in the dark here - apparently we werent as important as the families in Darwin..... No, I'm not bitter at all.... lol

We are Army with rank.
Apparently if it is just the partner it makes no difference to the army money wise as they dont have to pay extra at all. But they are paying for our little one too, so I dont know if that is a rank thing or something his unit is pretty happy to spring for because he takes on more work for them then he really should do after hours Ie with unit newsletters and photography etc.
Either way it is a gift horse and Im not looking it in the mouth! Lol we are going to Italy and I daresay will do a day trip to France! .......Wooo hooo! :fingerscrossed: :smiliedance:

Thats fantastic!! How awsome that they will send you over there!
My brother is in Afganistan at the moment and they are flying him home for 2 weeks at Christmas so he can see us all. (they gave him the option of going to Rome instead but he wanted to come home)
Hope your trip goes really well!

Has he be given dates & everything?? My DF is over there & still has no idea when his leave will be. He was told he will probably find out just as he gets on the plane!
