I'm new to the whole bottle feeding thing, but I was just wondering if you can store made-up formula in the fridge... my DD wakes about 4am to have a feed (goes to sleep at 8:30pm most nights) and Ihave to blunder around the kitchen making formula at this time - I just thought it might be easier to make up a bottle and put it in the fridge before I go to bed, then all I have to do is heat it up at 4am for her (I have a bottle warmer, not using a microwave).

Can you do this?

I used to make up a little jug of formula to put in the fridge for overnight feeds. Just make sure that the boiled water is cooled to room temp before putting it in the fridge.
It is so much easier to have that bottle waiting for those bleary eyed night feeds!

they also reccomend putting it at the back of the fridge as its colder not in the door

I have been using formula for 6 months now - and I always have a bottle in the fridge ready for early morning feed or unexpected mid night feed.
Suggest you read the tin of your formula - as I can only comment on what I use which is NAN and I know it is OK for 48 hours after been made... as long as refrigerated

I'm using Karitane Gold... the only thing it says is unused feeds must never be kept and should be thrown away...

I never likes storing already made formular in my fridge for more than a couple of hours so what i did, was I got all my DS2's bottles washed as usual and then put boiled water in them, I used to keep the cool boiled water in the bottles in the fridge so all I had to do each feed was just add the formula and warm, so much easier that way, well it was for me anyway

Yes Emma, you can definitely make up bottles and keep them in the fridge. Made up formula must be discarded after 24 hours though.

Also, as someone else mentioned, put the bottles at the back of the fridge, not in the door.

Hi Emma..
I have had my bub on formula since birth and i make up 4 bottle ( a days worth) at one time and have them in the fridge I do heat them up in the microwave as well you get to know how long to put them in for on my microwave it is 35sec for 180ml bottle my bub doesn't like them hot well she has never had them hot t is just warm..
I work with kids and make up formula at work every day and we make it up for the 24hr there aswell so if this wasn't recomened we wouldn't be alowed to do it..
We get the sales rep's in all the time to talk to us about formula and new ones on the market, and the best way to make them up...
Hope this helps and makes waking up a bit easier...

okay this is what i do and this is what my cousin and then i do this. My CHN said this fine and Jess loved room temp milk so it didn't matter.

Boil a jug of water and put in a airtight jug with a good lid leaving the lid open till the water cools
While the water is cooling I would was wash her bottles in hot soapy water
Sterilise them in the microwave.
Once the water is cool put seal the jug again. Before that fill your bottles with the amount of water you need per feed. With Jess she has 210ml of water per feed
It last 2 days in the bottles if left outside - but last longer in the fridge
Then I add the formula only when the bottle is needed. You could leave it at your bedside and all you have to do is pour in the formula and bobs your uncle. If your baby likes the milk a bit warmer get one of those thermoses and add boiled hot water in it and just add some to bottle when you make it and you are set.

The container I use for the formula is like this one. http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l109/ajcable/formula%20dispenser/feeding-7.jpg It's called a Tommee Tippee Formula Dispenser but Avent makes them. They are so cheap and you can buy them anyway they are about $8 each. I have 3. I just add how much I need per feed in each section.

Due to fact I lost my license for a year and I was taking the bus everywhere I used to have 4 bottles I carried around in the baby bag and it didn't matter how long I was out for the day. It took seconds to make up the bottles without the mess of having to carry a insulated bag everywhere with an ice pack.

I hated keeping made up milk in the fridge so I preferred iot this way and it was fresher. I hated using the microwave for a baby and even when I expressed breast milk and froze it I boiled a a kettle of water or use really hot water from the tap and the milk bottle in the hot water for about a min till the milk is warm

Those formula dispensers are a fantastic idea and I don't know what I would have done without mine.

I would fill all my bottles (all 8 of them) with cooled boiled water and use my pre-filled formula dispensers at the time of a feed then all I needed to do tip it in and warm the bottle. This makes it so much easier and saves you wasting any formula by having to throw it out if not used.

Avent makes them too, but I'm sure they're are many other brands available.

I love avent and tomme tippee because they can washed and sterilised in the microwave and it doesn't warp or shrink while the cheap ones just melt in the microwave

I make up a jug of formula before going to bed (enough for 24 hours), pour into 5 bottles and put them in the fridge. I just heat them up by sitting the bottle in a cup of boiling water. Takes about 3 or 4 minutes. That's what we were shown at hospital and I find that's the easiest way.

Hi there I make up DD 4 bottles at night after she has gone to bed. It is fine to premake them, as long as you store them in the fridge, and use them up within 24 hours. Another tip, I always give the bottle a good shake before and after heating for two reasons, to ensure that none of the powder has settled, not mixing properly and also to ensure that there are no hot spots in the bottle which can happen when using the microwave. When I know I am going out the next day, I prepare enough bottles for the feeds at home, and then take a avent powder dispenser, and two bottles of cooled boiled water with me. I always take an extra quantity of powder, and an extra bottle just in case something happens. I also leave these bottles out overnight so that if I am somewhere where I do not have access to a microwave I can make up the bottle, and DD can drink it at room temperature. All the best.
