Hi all,

My husband has been going through a baby names book looking at boys names, and he has informed me that he likes Angus and Hector.

We have already planned to use the middle name Allan (family name) if we have a boy.

Is Angus Allan or Hector Allan too old fashioned?

Sonia... :)

Given that some people refer to a cricket box as a "Hector Protector", I'd leave Hector well alone.

I do like Angus, though. It's a good little boys name, but it is also a good name for a man.

Hey :)

I would DEFINATELY go with Angus - it is a beautiful name.... we wanted it as a second name- but DH and I have the same initials, and we want to avoid the same combo for bubs.

Angus is an older name (my grandfathers :) ) - but it is still cute :D and is definately coming back into fashion.

I agree - I'd avoid Hector .

I like Angus but don't think that Allan sounds good in the middle. Sorry, that is just my opinion. You will choose the right name and at the end of the day, it's your decision, whether we all agree with it or not. All the best.

I like Angus, but I'm not fussed on Angus Allan...

Sorry - have to agree - Hector doesn't work for me...

Good luck choosing something!!

I'm a firm believer in a mother's naming rights - you birthed bub - you have the final say!! I think a lot of men kind of go that way in the end - they see what the mother goes through and then lets them decide... Well - that's what happened for us anyway!!

Cheers!

GO ANGUS, I have a nephew Angus and it is such a great name for a little boy and will age with them.
My footy coach's name was Angus and it suited him in his 30's.
Hector is way off course. I straight away get images of a frail 90 year old man.
I am hoping it works lilke it did for petster(DF isnt keen on matilda and i love it) but he made the mistake of saying he hasn't heard it much but may be over time it will grow on him so every single day i am like "hmmm what about Matilda!!!" i will win i'm sure!! :D

I also like Angus. I wouldn't say it's old fashioned, just traditional (especially if you have scottish heritage). Angus Allen is also a good combo in my opinion. Besides, you hardly ever use your middle name in life, so what does it matter?
((I'm thinking of Laura Amelia if we have a girl, even though it's two A's together and doesn't roll off the tongue quite so easily!))

Hector reminds me of a character in the Scottish show Monarch of the Glen (he was the old father who died at the end of the first series), and he was a charming character. But your son might get teased with such a name because it's not as common as other traditional names. It would be like me naming my son Aubrey because that's my grandfather's name! Can you imagine the grief he'd get with that name?

PS MollyandKurt's mum, I love the name Fletcher!!

Angus is nice Hector hmm not so sure, I can think of names that kids will make up.

Although kids will be kids if they don't tease with a name they'll find something else!

name picking is soooo hard as long as I have a name within the next 3 weeks I am happy lol thats when my big U/S is

good luck!

Hey thanks girls...

I have managed to finally talk DH out of Hector :D , and it appears that Angus is in the running. We have decided to not find out the sex, so I guess we should also have a little think about girls names aswell. I like Emily!!! ;)

Hey Sonia ...

I like Allan, not just because it is my Dad's name! (and my stepmothers ... Alyn ... weird - huh!). My Dad is Allan Arthur, so I don't think that Angus Allan is too bad an aliteration.

My poor boy got Arthur as a middle name ... mind you it means "strong as a rock" and he was over 13lb born so it really suits him - lol!

Summary ... Angus - really like it ... strong and a name for all stages in life!

Allan ... great middle name ... means "handsome" and every Mum believes taht thier wee man is the most handsome one around!

Emily ... a very beautiful name which has some really nice nicknames ... Emmy, Millie, Emm ...
