I'm really starting to think I have an anterior placenta.
I should have felt lots of kicks by now, but I've only felt 2. I felt Matthew kicking at 13wks, Jacob at 16 and Brooke at 20..........and I'm now almost 17.5wks and I've only felt 2.
When I had my 15wk checkup and got to hear the heartbeat, we heard the placenta noises for ages before we heard the heartbeat.

Does all of this mean that my placenta could be posterior?? Could there be any problems with the birth if I do have one? Could there be any problems with a large baby (cord getting squashed??)??

I know I'll find out for sure in 2wks when I have my scan, but I am sure someone here would be able to reassure me.

Hi Jeanette

That is exactly how the middie said she could tell, my whole stomach was all placenta noises for a good 8 or so minutes, then she went really high (between my ribs and belly button) and pointed the doppler down, and there was the heartbeat, which was still hard!

I dont know about the problems, she said there wouldnt be any, during labour, and I asked about a big baby, but she didnt say anything about problems with it, and just wrote it in my book thing that I had an anterior placenta, that was it, she just said some placentas are on the front, some are on the back, so I felt reasurred, but like you, we will find out for sure at the ultrasound!

By the way, did you get in for the ultrasound when you wanted to?

Yep, I'm booked in for 11am on November 8. I get the referal an hour before it, LOL.

It just seems strange that I haven't felt any kicks when I know that this baby would already be bigger than average (based on my previous history). All the movemtns I have felt have all been near my right hip, whereas with my other babies, they were here there and everywhere.

I guess I will find out for sure in 2wks.

And there are alot of old wives tales going around like your baby has higher risk of being posterior at birth or more chance of having cord around its neck, Its all a load of bollocks!! :D

Take it easy.

Oh cool, ta. I did a search this afternoon and found a few things like that (google is bad!!), which is why I made this post in the first place.

I had an anterior placenta first time round, and no dramas, other than my mw found it hard to hear the heart beat sometimes.

angel_kisses thats where i think most of my movements have been coming from.
From my scans at my 12 week scan there is a pic of my placenta and it say ANT PLACENTA, just wondering does that mean i have one too. When i went to the docs the other week he couldnt hear the heatbeat. He told me not to worry cause it was still early days (13 weeks).I want to double check where my placenta is when i have my next scan.
Everything i have read says all should be ok if you have a anterior placenta.

my placenta is also anterior and the only reason that it is a problem is because its low lying and part of it is covering my cervix. However the ob has told me not to worry too much as it will more than likely move up my uterus as it stretches.

If it doesnt than this is when it causes problems and i would need to have a c-section, but thats only if it stays low. As long as it moves up then i will be able to have a natural birth.

Forgot to update this after my scan. Placenta isn't anterior.....just a small baby lying transverse.
