Has anyone heard that the army are now only paying the cost of a train fare for travel to the new location?
My DH seems to think that they don't pay for you to drive anymore, or even pay the same as an airfare.
This is because they got a 12% payrise. First 4% is coming soon.
Thats the first I've heard of it, it wouldnt suprise me but it doesnt seem right. I go on another forum where all are partners of ADF personnel. Alot of them are being posted at the end of this year - I'll ask around and let you know.
Ok, here are a few replies for you. Hope this helps
"I quote from the press release about the pay rise "no conditions of service were traded". I presume this to include relocation allowance.
What does suck is this. They get a 4% increase and guess what the SR and RA contributions are increasing by.
Took this from Pacmate.
SR AND RA CONTRIBUTIONS
The SR and RA contributions are adjusted using rent data supplied by the Defence Housing Authority (DHA). For 2006/07, the SR and RA contributions are to be increased by 4.17% with effect from 2 Nov 2006."
"we are posted at the end of the yr and we are getting $5566 cash in bank and we are driving 2 cars and towing `a trailer."
"we got $1500 to move 25 minutes away from where we used to be in May. Seemed like a good days earnings to me"
Looks like most people are still getting all their allowance. Hope it has helped

I heard about this too... Its crazy really - we are given RA (Rent Assistance) at the moment for being in the unit we are in, but cause we want to move OUT of here and somewhere else more suitable for the baby we are forced into taking a SR (Service Residence) We have found one locally and put our names down for it - but I'm still pushing to move into something that I WANT to live in! :banghead:
We had a similar thing when we were in Townsville. We were living in a SR, which was a town house without any air-con. My athsma was really bad & I needed air-con. We went to DHA, they told us that there were no SR available with air-con so if we moved out, we would lose ALL our entitlements - which we did. We found a private rental but received no RA at all. But on the positive side, I could breathe!

Just as an idea, we moved in June from a private house which we received RA for into a service residence, which was brand new, four bedroom air conditioned etc, great near base location.
It is five minutes if that from our previous residence at Newmarket, and we received about $1500 in the bank for five minutes in car travelling distance which wasnt bad.
