View Full Version : Anyone on Aspirin or heparin?
Hi,
Unfortunately I have just had my 3rd miscarriage and I'm feeling pretty down. Just got back from my GP who suggested we start to investigate why this is happening. She suggested there might be a need for aspirin or heparin with my next pregnancy to assist in preventing another miscarriage. I just read about it on the internet and it seems quite popular.
Is anybody in a similiar situation to me and has been prescribed with these medications? Has it worked for anybody? Am really interested to hear about your experiences.
thx

Hi An2net, you might want to read the thread about ANA antibodies, several of us have been advised to take aspirin for our next pregnancy.

I dont know anything about giving heparin for pregnancy loss, but I am a nurse and when I was working I gave out heparin on a daily basis and its given by injection but its only a very small needle and it doesnt hurt and can go in thigh or stomach (most patients prefer stomach).
Just thought I would shed some light on the administration process. :hugs:
Hi An2net,
I'm so sorry to hear of your losses and do know how you feel. It is so devastating and not many people understand the impact it has. I hope you find some answers soon.
As Rianna said you should read the post on ANA antibodies, I've posted in there a lot, as have others so there is lots of info.
I am 38 weeks pregnant (5th pregnancy - no children) and have taken aspirin all through this pregnancy and it has done the trick. I also have ANA antibodies (which should be one of the tests that your doctor sends you for), the aspirin (& heparin) counteract the effect that the antibodies have.
In Melbourne there is a recurrent miscarriage clinic at the Royal Women's Hospital. I see that you are based in NSW but I am sure they have the same there. You have to have had 3 losses to be seen by their specialists but they are the ones who discovered my problem, then proposed the solution. It might be worth ringing the Royal Women's in Melbourne and asking them about the same in Sydney, because they really were a 'god-send' for me.
I hope you get some answers soon, I know how long the road must feel, certainly after my third miscarriage I really started to believe I would never have a child.
Best wishes and hopefully the doctors can help you.

I too have to have the asprin when we decide to TTC again. I just got some results back the other day and everything was fine so just prepare yourself that there may be nothing wrong at all like me!!!!!
I am just going to go with the flow now and do what my ob thinks is best, as he deals with this day in and day out.
Love to you though it's hard I know.

Thanks everybody for your help and kind words.
I've just booked myself in to see Dr Kim Mathews (sydney) who specialises in recurrent miscarriages/IVF etc. My GP was too lazy to help me and suggested I take some time to rest and then go see him again in a few months when he'll refer me to some Specialist in Westmead. Who's got time to wait.....I want results NOW!
Fingers crossed for us all!

Hi,
I have had a successful pregnancy using aspirin and low molecular heparin, fragmin stays in system 24 hrs so ony 1 injectiona day instead of two!).
I had a one late loss and then would have had another but we were forced to end the pregnancy because waiting to see if bubs might defeat the odds and make it could have meant I died.
I started the aspirin, 25mg a day, from conceiving and had the inection from 5wks to 37+5wks when I delivered a healthy little boy.
The injections were not too awful, 'useful pain' as I said to myself!
