Jaz's Mum - I would like to say it is wonderful that you are looking for facts about our little town
If you give me a minute I will give you a more detailed reply
I would also like to note to others that Jaz is here echoing a common and rather wrong comment - ....
The only thing I have herd on this place is thats it a aborginal town , big on wines an about 3 hrs or so from bris lol.
:)
Which is wonderful - as we can let her know what it is really like!
Indigenous Friends, don't be offended - if everyone was as honest about their misconceptions the world would be a better place!
Give me a jiff Jaz

I'm in a mad rush - off to K'roy to buy a couch (this is about 45 mins from us and you have a choice of there or Gympie for big ticket stuff - actually there are many shops here including a furniture but limited range)
As for the shops and services I will hop on later with more info
Re the Indigenous population, we are about 15clicks from a town called Cherbourg which is where about 26 very different tribes were 'dumped' and 'imprisoned' at the turn of the century - this subject is amazingly indepth and multi-tiered
I will love to share more with you another time
To stick to your question, there is a park in the middle of our main street which used to have a small percentage of local 'alcoholics' sleeping in there at night etc
This is no longer a problem.
You have touched on some raw issues in the history of our towns (Cherbourg and Murgon) and I know my answer is brief but
As a girl who is originally from London and has spent most of her life in Melb or travelling - thus a city girl - I have really enjoyed Murgon as a place to have young children
The mothers are warm, wonderful, and always there for you. There are heaps of activities on for the children just locally and a whole lot more in Kingaroy
I guess you do have to make a bit more effort when you first move here, being a small country town it is a bit harder to get to know people first up but you have me to help with that ;) and I promise you the friends you do make here are friends for life
Also you have to be a bit clever about things like grocery shopping etc to get the best value, but isn't it wonderful to learn and think about these things rather than blindly just assume you will have what you want at the shops!
So much more to say, maybe pm me - and of course we always welcome visitors, come and see for yourself
:)

Hi Vicki
I lived in Kingaroy from the age of 12 to 22 and still visit there regularly to see family and friends. My grandma lives at Wondai which is 20 min from Murgon and a lovely little town. I've never lived in Murgon but have been there often, especially when I worked in the school dental van. I found the local state school really nice
I think the south burnett is a great place to grow up so hope this helps with you and your families decision :D
hi Jaz's Mum,
we moved to murgon about 10 months ago to work at the meat works to save some money(only temp). we moved from cairns so it was a big shock to the system. but now we are planing to buy a house here in about 6 months the people are friendly and its nice not to have to live in a rush. if we need some major retail theropy we just drive down to the sunny coast and then we can do the beach and shoping at the same time. plus everything here is convienent.i love the iga and their prices, they are much cheaper than woolies, but the range is less . plus i live on the main road with the park and havent had a problem, in cairns we didnt go any where near the parks after dark because of some issues with local alcholics, so in short we really like living here it was a real "seachange".hope this helps.
