hello,
My baby is now 7 weeks old. When she was born, she had some spots on her nose and a week later, she had some on her cheeks as well. The past couple of weeks, I noticed she had some on her back and chest. On her 6 week check, while I was waiting at the doctor's clinic, I notice her dry scalp. I wasked the doctor about it, he said it was a cradle's cap. So her "cradle's cap" and rash-looking spots (which some call as milk spots) were a form of eczema which is caused by the immaturity of something (I forgot the word he used) to produce oil. He suggested ordinary cooking olive oil for the scalp and sorbolene on the face and body.
I haven't tried the olive oil as the one I have at home has chillis in it. I used the Avent All-in-one magic cream for the scalp and for her body. Today, I started using sorbolene on her body.
What worked for you and how long did it take to get rid of the skin problem?
Thanks!

Hi there,
I got some "egozite" cradle cap stuff for my DD and it seems to have done the trick, its just a bit messy as you have to put it on for a few days without washing it out. (about $9 at the chemist)
Ezaria also had a few skin issues so we don't use anything on her skin, just some QV oil in the bath, and her skin's perfect now
I use baby oil wipes for little miss' head . .she is often getting dry skin on her head as she doesnt have much hair and these work wonders. They are made by sebamed

I used plain olive oil on my son's head, left it in for a day or so then got a fine toothed comb and combed it off. Quite foul really...!
For his dry skin we use Aqueous cream - it's like sorbolene.

i used to wash dd 1 and 2's hair with sorbelene cream, plus some brushing not to hard......i was told that most babies get cradle cap on their fontenells-spel- because we get paranoid about putting to much pressure on it...zoe hasnt got any yet, i rub her head when drying her hair fairly vigourisly
I got rid of DD's cradle cap with the baby shampoo made by Lush...worked a treat and she had stacks of hair so I didn't want bald spots and I hated using anything oily because she looked so dirty with greasy hair and we are out and about all the time.
Her milk spots I did nothing with. They just went away on their own.
Her eczema spot....she is allergic to dairy and once we found that out and I cut it out of my diet the eczema disappeared.
We also bath her in QV oil

This is a weird one but Canesten thrush cream is great for cradle cap. Put some on the infected area and leave overnight, wash off. It's great.
Recommended by my doctor.

Hi Karen,
Yes, I used their shampoo. For those on his eyebrows, I used the moisturizer and it took about a week to clear.

Thanks for that, I looked around earlier this year and couldn't any of there products except for the moisturizer (and that was on special because the chemist were no longer stocking their products :( ) Might have to order online.

Thank you again. One of the places that comes up is where I got the cream, I will try the other tomorrow :fingerscrossed:
i got rid of my DS's cradle cap by rubbing baby oil in the affected area and leaving it there over night.. then in the morning giving it a light rub washing his hair with shampoo and then combing the lil flakes out... it worked a treat... never heard that canestan cream can fix it too... i was lucky my son didn't have a really bad dose of cradle cap so it only took a couple of times to disappear...

Thanks for all the advise everyone!
I'm still using the Johnson's sorbolene cream at the moment while I wait for the Gaia products I ordered online (thanks for posting the link Devlin's Mom).
Anyway, I've seen some improvement on my baby's skin so far. I applied some Aloe Vera Activator (w/c is 100% pure aloe vera) on to her skin and scalp yesterday. Today, the redness has gone down and the spots on her neck and back is peeling away, revealing some healthy soft skin underneath. Her scalp is less scaly and not as red anymore.
I'm still using the Johnson's Sorbolene cream to bathe her and before dressing her up, I smear the cream on her thick enough to leave some white layer. The tricky bit is the face 'cause she tends to rub her face when I apply it, wiping the cream off with her mittens.
I skipped giving her a bath today--as the midwife at the hospital's bathing demo mentioned that babies don't need to be bathed everyday since they don't get dirty and not wash away the baby's natural oils--so just a wipe-down with a damp cloth for today and more aloe vera.
I hope what I'm doing helps her skin condition. I'm really looking forward to getting the Gaia products--anything that's natural is always good.
