I was just wondering if there was a dietician or an organisation that you know of for parents of allergy babies. My 8mth old is on a very limited and slow intoruction diet due to dairy and soy (and possible other) allergies.

My doctor has only the advise to take introducing solids slowly and to avoid high risk foods (such as strawberries and kiwifruit) but can't actually give me a list of high allergy foods, or even low allergy foods. I guess I just need basic help as he is getting VERY tired of farex for breakfast.

Thank you.

Dear Tisme,

Have you asked your doctor for a referral to a specialist such as a Paediatric Allergist or a Paediatric Gastroenterologist? Your options for seeing these specialists will, of course, vary depending on where you live. These doctors can recommend appropriate foods for your bub and give you guidelines for when and how to introduce other foods. They are also able to perform allergy skin tests to determine the likelihood of an allergy or sensitivity to a range of food types– without your bub having to eat these.

If you are unable to access one of these specialists, then ask your doctor to direct you to a paediatrician and / or paediatric dietitian. Food allergies can range in severity from minor sensitivities to serious, life threatening allergies. It is important that you gain advice specific to your baby. There are a variety of websites related to food allergies, including some parent support groups – but be careful about what you read. It is probably better to start with factsheets and information that come from one of the majot children’s hospitals or state health services.
