Hi,

Thankfully my little one is a good nightime sleeper but recently since the weather started getting hotter she has developed an odd sleeping pattern.

At 5am (on the dot pretty much!) she wakes and either makes one yelp or a brief 30sec cry and then there is silence for about 2 minutes then she starts talking to herself. I TRY to go back to sleep but am continually awoken by her chatter. Eventually she falls asleep - well at least I assume so? then wakes again briefly when she hears her dad get up at 6.30am then goes back to sleep till about 7.30am. Technically the sleeping in to 7.30am is fantastic but the 5am wake up call leaves me wide awake!! Has anyone experienced this? She has recently changed from 2 day sleeps to one and the weather is heating up too? could this be it?

Sounds like she's growing and changing very normally for a baby! Her capacity to sleep more deeply might be developing so when she jolts awake it's a bit of a shock to her. Don't worry, as soon as you're used to this, she'll develop a new habit!

Mine does this too sometimes, tho not so early as 5am. I just count my blessings that she's happy in her cot and will play and chatter with her bears there. Eventually you learn to doze through the chatter, or try turning off the monitor if you have one - if she really needs you you'll hear it. My dd has always slept with her bedroom door closed too and that helps block her noise a bit.

And like Janet said, it's sure to change again soon anyways :)

Welcome to the world of Qld and no daylight savings.....everyone I know has children who wake at 5am at the moment - the birds are singing, the sun is coming up and the kids think it is time to party. My experience from last summer tells me that this could last a few months. Just be grateful she goes back to sleep - mine don't!! (Yawn.......)
