View Full Version : Can a Twin be missed at an early u/s?
Hi I would if you wonderful ladies who have twins can help me. I went for a scan last week and was told there was one baby but two sacs I was 8 weeks then. The sonographer said it could be that the other baby is to small to pick up yet and to go back in a couple of weeks, however the doctor seems to think that it's unlikley to be missed and is probably only one viable pregnancy.
What do you think could it still be twins has this happened to any of you. I can't stand not knowing.

It is posable to miss a second baby in a early scan, there is so many possablities with this, 1, the sac that you saw could be a bloated ovum, 2. you could've ovulated from both ovries(sp) just at different times and both eggs were fertilised at different times (isn't common but is possable)
Stranger things have happened, anything is possible:)

As Greyeyes said there are so many possablities with twins. But I do know that with my own twins they where not pick up until I was about 15 to 16 weeks! They where missed in the first scan.
Thanks for your replies. It so hard being told that it could be and then not knowing.
Yummy Mummy of 5 how far along was you when you had your first scan? I was 8 weeks and will be 10 weeks at the scan next Thursday.

Fozzie:
I was about 10 to 12 weeks when I had my first scan. And they missed it. But I did ask as I have a family history of twins, so it was a big shock when they said it was twins!
