I have a rough collie dog which is also known as a lassie dog and hes acting really strange. Hes very old for a dog I think hes 12 years old. Anyway mum just called me outside and he looks like hes having some sort of fit he cant control his head and its going from one side to the other and hes trying to walk but cant get up so pulling himself along with his front feet. After a while he managed to get himself up but was walking with a strange twitch and definatly isnt acting himself. If anyone knwos anything about what oculd be going on please say so. :gloomy:

Start searching him for ticks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOW !!!!!!!!!
Start at his head searhc through his ears down his body in all the crevices !!!!!!
CAll your vet & see if they can come out if not head straight over to one that has an emergency service this is not a good sign you really need to have him looked at.

Absolutely... get searching!!! Do you have an emergency vet clinic near you? Get your dog to help as soon as you can :( you can never be too careful with things like that.
:fingerscrossed: that your 4 legged friend will be fine :fingerscrossed:

Thank you for your advice! I wouldnt have known to call the vet if it werent for you two! Anyway I had a quick look around him which was rather impossible with all his hair but after that he seemed to be completely normal again. We gave the emergency vet number a call and they said once they get quite old they flick their eyes around and it sounds like thats what was happening to him  they have no control over it and get really dizzy and scared. I also forgot to mention that while that was happening he wet himself  anyway ill keep a close watch over tonight but I hope hes going to be ok!

I would still take him for a check up tomorrow it wont do any harm.
Yes as dogs get old they can often have fits etc but all those symptoms makes me a little worried about what else it could be iykwim.
At least if you take him tomorrow they may find its just due to old age etc & can make him comfy otherwise there may be another issue that needs to be attended to & sometimes you have to look at the alternative that you dont want them to suffer even if they do seem "ok".
Lots of :hugs: hope tomorrow is a better day !

Poor little guy, hope he's ok. Like Ally said, a check up tomorrow wouldn't hurt.
My sympathy to you about the coat thing. I have a hungarian puli and a flea in his coat is worse than a needle in a haystack.

Our dog had this about 2 months ago. Its known as a syndrome ie they dont really know what causes it and it effects rough collies. It basically effects their balance and thats why he cant walk as the ground feel weird to him, he will be off his food as well and their eys do a weird flicking thing
They give you muscle relaxants and anti nausea tablets so you can get him to eat. All you need to do is make sure he doesnt move much until he is ready, ie take food to him and carry him outside a couple of times during the day.
Not for the good news - 80% of dogs recover within a week and another 80% of the ones who dont recover in 2 weeks. It may never happen again or it might happen again within a year they just dont know.
Our dog had an attack on a Sunday, we took her to the vets on Monday, on Friday she was walking outside by herself but still really really out of balance, by Sunday she was heaps better and by the following sunday you wouldnt even know she had an attack. She is 15 and still acts 7!
Just take him to the vets tomorrow
Thinking of you

I love Kormos... he's a pesky little critter sometimes, but he's our baby too.,
We recently packed him and Sarah into the car and drove all the way to Sydney for the 2006 Puli Picnic! Can you imagine, about 30 black mops-on-legs all running around together :)
