My doctor has diagnosed depression and told me to wean my 9 month old because no antidepressants are breastfeeding safe :gloomy:
Surely this isn't true?
Hmmm... I'd be getting a second opinion....
My doctor gave me an anti-depressant with a less "toxicity" and therefore, less "harmful". I carried and breastfed bubs while on antidepressants and she is fine.
I really would check with another doctor.

thankyou.
I've realised my GP is not bfing friendly at all. :(
Well, I looked on Kellymom.com and her advice was that Zoloft was the best, followed by Paxil, then Celexen, which is the one i am on (with great results by the way) as I cannot get the other 2 in NZ, where I am staying at the moment.
Giving up bf was NOT an option for me, and I have seen no side effects in either of my boys. :fingerscrossed:

I just replied in your other thread Zoloft & Prozac are the safest for pg & b/f but you can research this yourself to read & make your own choice.
Good luck with your decision :hugs:

I know a girl who has been on Zoloft while feeding. Perhaps it's time for a second opinion... so many of these to you :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

I took Cipramil 2 years ago when breastfeeding my last DD. She was around 4 months at the time. They didn't really work for me so I switched to Lexapro. I breastfeed and took Lexapro for about 6 months.
2 years later I am back on the Lexapro with a 4 month old (again), I have researched thoroughly and believe it is safe for me take it while breastfeeding.
Find another doctor - he sounds like a bit of a ****
My bub is 9.5 months and I've been taking ciprimil for about 6 months and this is the happiest I've ever been.
I have tried so many antidepressents and I think you need to find one that suits you.
There are a few you can take but if your still not sure get a second opinion.
Hope you find something that suits you, just give it some time to work.

thanks girls.
I've been on cipramil before, at 16 and it worked OK then. I'm going to do a ring around tomorrow - hopefully I can get a second opinion (and change my GP who used to be lovely  )

Hey CK.
I've just started taking St John Wort for depression. They did recommend Zoloft but i had a bad reaction to it. So far its been 2 days & i've not had a reaction so all is well. Hopefully it will work :fingerscrossed:
Goodluck finding something :hugs: I was told months ago to wean to go on Anti-D's but that would make me a million times worse.
