We currently bath DS2 every day as a part of his bed time routine and he seems to love it. Even the sound of filling up the bath calms him down. The only problem is his skin is getting really dry even with a massage with gaia oil afterwards.

So I'm wondering if I should bath him less often. Would be interested to hear how often others bath their newbies.

I always bathed my kids every day from birth. It was part of their routine and still is.

I used Johnson and Johnson and sometimes but some baby oil in the bath too.

Sometimes every day and sometimes just a couple a week it depended on what we had been up to and what sort of mess they were in (number 2's) They stiil miss a few if they havn't been out in the dirt.

What are you putting in the water?

My kids have a bath everyday from birth as part of bedtime routine, but when they were so small, I used water only, or qv.

Too many toxic ingredients in j&j, don't use it if you are.

Every second day unless he has been messy or been out held by other people.
We always rub baby oil after every bath all over him.. He still gets the odd dry patch and i just put more oil on

Just using water in the bath at the moment and Gaia massage oil after, sometimes I use a bit of sorbelene on the really dry patches.

Ive bathed my 4 month old every second day unless she's had a messy nappy. She hates getting out of the bath into the cold in winter and it does dry out her skin so I find bathing her every other day really works for us.

i bathed my daughter every second day. if you see dry skin, try skipping a day. and avoid too many bathing soaps or jells like j&j's.

I bathed every second day, and his skin still got dry. I started adding a tablespoon of olive oil to his bath and his skin cleared right up!!

We bathed our DS every 2nd night but then increased to every night to form a bedtime routine. We also found he got dry flakey skin. When I checked with other mums I knew and the MCHN I was informed that this is very common at that age as their skin is maturing and adjusting to being out of the womb.
I was recommended to use a moisturiser multiple timesa day. Sure enough the dry skin cleared right up. I recommend Carolines Cream or something like Cetaphil.

Eeek! Never use J&J products their ingredients should be outlawed!

Try Kerri, Cetaphyl or QV or similar for anyone - esp sensitive babies skin.

Good luck.

A tiny bit of QV oil in the bath works magic for dry skin!

I bath twice a day with no problems yet.

You wouldn't want to be stewing in the remnants of pee, poo, spew and leaked breastmilk - and I'm thinking bubs wouldn't either!

My ds is 5 months old and has been suffering dry skin and eczema since day 1. Some things I have learnt I over the months-
- bathing daily helps to cleanse, hydrate and remove dry/old skin
- keep water warm enough for baby in these cold months, but too warm can draw moisture out of their skin making it worse
- use bath oils only like qv or similar from chemist
- only pat dry afterwards
- use thick sorbolene creams from a tub. The best one I found was hydroderm
- use the oil you mentioned on the scalp

Yep I bath 4mo DD twice a day no problems most of the time just with water and I put curash on my hands and wash her and get her out. She doesn't soak in the soapy water.

And after very bath we massage cream on her!!

I remember being told to only bath her every second day but between the spew and nappy explosions it was better for everyone for her to bath every day!!

Every second to third day for DS, with a wipe down with a washcloth several times in between. He was a clean baby, luckily.
He had TERRIBLE eczema and his face was often red raw so we avoiding bathing more than was absolutely vital because it dried his skin out so badly no matter what we did.

We tried everything, sterilised water in case it was irritating, non-irritant baby wash, short baths, warm and cool... No dice. I'm hoping our next one doesn't have the same problem because he was miserable until it cleared up.

Another Anti J&J here. Toxic that stuff.

I bath DS every day as a part of his bedtime routine. He seems to have inherited my bad skin but I use Eco Store Sleepytime Bath in the water (3 small squirts) and then I wash his hair with Curash (love the smell LOL) and his body with Eco Store Baby Wash. If I don't have any Eco Store (They've stopped stocking it here in Tas :( so I have to get it online) I use Milk baby wash. I moisturise afterwards with Milk 'moisturising qwueam' it's fantastic and cleared up all the rough patches on DS within a few days. Then on his bum I use the Milk Spotty Tots bum cream.
