At what age did your LO decide that they were happy to sleep all night in their own bed?
DS came into our bed at 330am and although I love having him there his elbow is in my back and my neck is sore from limited space!!

My 2.8 month old.comes in most nights (I believe this is due to the cold nights and him teething) and my nearly 5 year old comes in at random times. She seems to go through stages.

Mine's 3.5 and he still comes into my bed every night. He's happy to go to sleep in his own room, but like clockwork he scurries into my room at about 2 am.

DD2 is 2 and has only just started to sleep in her own bed at night, she wakes several times and used to be inconsolable unless i brought her into my bed but lately i just go in, give her a hug and say 'it's time to go to sleep now, lay down and close eyes' etc and she does - it took ages to get to this point (was sitting by her bed for months and months) and isn't perfect, she still ends up in my bed some nights but it has improved greatly. I also praise her heaps in the morning, when she does stay in her bed.

Ds used to sleep in my bed alot of nights (or part of nights) but he has been staying in his own bed all the time since he was about 22 months (he is now 2 1/2 yrs)

We stopped at 14 months because no one was getting any sleep. He now sleeps 13 hours in his cot every night and I love it even though I miss the cuddles.

I have almost always co-slept with my kiddies, but as for late night cuddles, my almost 5yo still sneaks into my bed every single night at around midnight. It's not a problem for me now though because it's just me in the bed anyway, so it's nice to have some cuddles and extra warmth. I think if I was to try and get him to stay out of my bed, I would be successful, probably with a star chart or something, but at the moment I don't want him to stay away! :)

Oh and I wanted to add that as he has gotten older he has become more 'sharing' when it comes to bedspace. He used to need to sleep ONTOP of me, but slowly he's been edging his way off me and now sleeps mostly next to me but sometimes will hook his legs up ontop of my tummy.

My 4.5 yr old only just now sleeps alone in his bed half the time, DS2 (3.5) joins me every night around 10:30-11:30 and DD co-sleeps full time.

My 2 year old comes in occasionally in the middle of the night but mostly sleeps through in her own bed now. Her choice! She seems to sleep a lot better. She never co slept full time but went through periods where she would spend a few nights In a row with us from midnight until the morning.

Thanks all. DS will be 3 soon and he is just starting to come into our bed. First it was around 5am, then 3am and last night it was 11pm. I used to try and encourage him to go back to bed, but lately he will just cry and cry for me and to be in "mummy's bed".
I actually enjoy having him there and so does dh, but why do I feel like it is the wrong thing to do? Should I be insisting that he stays his own bed? Is it western society that makes us feel like it us not normal?

If you don't have a problem with it, then it's not a problem.
The only reason i encourage my DD to stay in her own bed is i don't get a decent sleep as she pokes/kicks me and it was affecting my mood/mental well being as i was never getting any space to myself (as i was with my kids all day, then all night too). Otherwise i would be happy for her to stay in my bed - i don't feel it's wrong if everyone is happy with it. :)
