I wasn't real sure where to put this thread, but i guess the weight gain section is probably the closest.

Mostly this is a chance for me to get this all down in black and white so as to show myself what i'm really dealing with, what i have gone thru and how far i have come. Sort of a journal, but any comments and advice you might have would be most welcome :)

In April 2007 i got pregnant, and physically was in the prime of my life. I was a Pro-level motocross racer and trained everyday. I weighed 56kg, most of which was muscle (i'm only 160cm). I never got sick. I was exceptionally fit and strong. I felt invincible. (crap! I'm crying already...)

I continued with lighter workouts at the gym up until about 20wks when i started getting severe braxtons and was advised to stop until after the birth. That's when things started to take a dive. I rapidly lost weight. I could not eat enough. I always had a tremendous appetite anyway, but still could not eat enough calories to even keep my weight steady. The day after delivery, i weighed just 47kg. Two weeks after that, once the extra fluid had been expelled, all that was left of me was 44kg!

In the 4 years since then, i have struggled to gain enough to get up to a size 8. I have also had another baby which has made things even worse for my body. This time my pelvis fell apart and i was bed-ridden for months and i had to learn to walk again. I desperately want to be fit and strong again. I have made countless attempts at getting my fitness back, but EVERY SINGLE TIME I TRY i get sick! It's like my body is only just barely coping and then adding the extra stress of exercise pushes it over the edge.

I am done having babies. My body cannot cope with it. I now want to focus on getting well, then getting fit. I'm open to trying alternative therapies to get well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

A minor update - sooo excited about some possible causes that i will begin testing for - had to shout it out somewhere!

Since the last post, I have been seeing a kinesiologist to work on rebalancing my system so that i am starting this health journey on a good foundation. She suggested that i need to start with blood tests to see what my vitamin and mineral levels are as her procedures revealed that i am critically low on iron and may have other deficiencies as well (i'm booked in with GP to do that next week). Well i know prior to having DD my bloods back then showed very very low levels of iron, so i'm not too surprised by that.

The thing that really excited me though was this: Food-dependent exercise induced anaphylaxis! Quite a mouthful, and extremely rare, but at this stage it does seem to fit with my symptoms and experiences. Basically it is this;

An anaphylactic response (urticaria, pruritis, bronchial spasms and/or constriction, hypotension, angioedema, collapse) can be triggered after eating certain foods (usually wheat, rye, oats, cheese, alcohol, peanuts, apples) before doing strenuous exercise.

To be honest, it sounds kinda far-fetched, but i cannot argue that it certainly fits my history. I have suffered that kind of reation EVERY time i have attempted gym workouts within the past few years. Most recently, i joined a gym and was going twice a week first thing in the morning before my husband left for work. But i always made myself a light breakfast to eat on the way to the gym, thinking that i shouldn't exercise on a totally empty stomach - my breakfasts were usually peanut butter on a rice cake!
And looking back, in the past i never ate before working out! I used to eat breakfast at my desk AFTER my workouts. And on race days i never ate anything because of nerves. So this is really starting to make sense.

I will be talking to my GP about referring me to an allergy specialist to test for it, which could still be months away. But i am really exited about the possibility of an answer and hopefully, a plan of avoiding it in the future and finally being able to get fit and healthy again! :smiliedance:
