Okay you are probably thinking.....here she goes again....

so, disclaimer, before you read on: if you want a c/section, for any reason, this thread is not for you.

This is if you want to try and avoid a c/section, and you are as crazy as me :D (or as I like to see it, you just plain believe that the birth process can work for you)

I have found a link to pictures (be warned, they are very graphic) of some women birthing in mexico despite all odds given by the medical fraternity....

this includes:

* posterior birth

* breech birth

* twin birth

* mums told her pelvis/frame too small

* cord loops round babies

* vbac/vba2c - most women had a classical vertical incision that didnt rupture, shock horror :thumbsup:

* over 2 weeks overdue

* etc, etc

be inspired: homebirth-only.com/Births.htm (copy & paste into your browser if you'd like to take a look - precede with http://www.)

(pls dont be put off by the 'homebirths only' website name.....if these women can do it drug free at home, then theoretically you could do it in the safety of a hospital????)

I am amazed at the power of women after looking at this.
You would think that because of the conditions in which these births take place with no medical back up it was a recipe for disaster but with a bit of faith and trust birth is a beautiful natural event.

the cord around neck one interests me greatly as i know of plenty of women whose bub has a cord around thier neck upon delivery of the head and its very simple to simply remove cord once head is out. i had no idea an ultrasound showing a cord around neck is a reason for a c-sec.

my midwives assured me it was nothing to be concerned about if bub delivered like this.

My DS2, my 1st vbac, had the cord round his neck (might have been one of the reasons he came a month early? who knows) and he was born healthy and normal, it was no big deal, very straightforward and undramatic birth. Took him home next day......:thumbsup:

That is an amazing site!! Did anyone else look at the big/small belly quiz?? And if you did, did you see the size of some of the small ones!!!! It never ceases to amaze me how babies manage to pack themselves into such small berths - clever little things :D

Thanks for sharing that Bec! :smiliedance: (that is me filled with the amazing joy of birth!).

Becca, I haven't even looked at the video yet but wanted to tell you that I love your threads, so keep them coming. :thumbsup:

And also to Stellarella, at the risk of sounding patronising (:o), I'm so impressed that you are such an informed, pro-active and empowered mum at such a young age. Your wisdom is (I think) beyond your years.

Now I'm going to look at the video.... :D

Most definitely an image feast of beauty there. Fantastic! :yelclap:

I did want to add that both my cousin and a mother I know both had twins vaginally with no worries what so ever. My cousin's little boys were pretty good size at 5 and 6 lbs each!

My lovely midwife carried her twins to 41 weeks and gave birth to them vaginally and naturally!!

If i was to ever carry twins I would attempt a VB all the way, equally with a breech birth.

I'm glad you all loved the pictures as much as me.....:D

It's great to see what vaginas are designed perfectly to do... I am proud to have been born a woman, so proud and grateful that I wasnt born with a doodle :laughing: (sorry blokes......all in jest ;) )

Becca, I just wanted to say I find you very inspirational. I think you are a very strong woman and very brave. I have only given birth once and it did not turn out exactly the way I had planned, I take inspiriation from you and am looking forward to a better birth next time.

Thankyou for sharing your experiences (in this thread and others):)

Thanks Stellarella, and I too find you inspirational :hugs: .....I wish I was as informed as you before I had my first baby.....I was 25 when I had him, and was under the delusion that it was ok to stay blissfully unaware about birth, that "he was just gonna come out somehow, so why prepare?" type attitude. What a fool I was....

My prayer is that more and more women take responsibility and seek well-rounded information for their births right from their first one, just like you did....this would be a big step towards the fear surrounding birth being dissipated in our culture....

becca74
24-10-2006, 12:37
I keep going back to look at the pics.....I think one of my faves is the woman who is lying back with her hands behind her head (as one would if they were lying back looking up at the clouds), calmly and matter-o-factly pushing her baby out.

Just goes to show that birth is sometimes just that.....just plain ole matter-o-fact, fear-free, everyday occurance.....:thumbsup:

Now you know another one :D I pushed mine out and they were 5lb15oz a piece - and monochorionic. It's not as uncommon as many people think, even in today's birthing climate. A friend of mine freebirthed her fraternal twins under a tree with only her husband with her - they nearly had a fit when she turned up days after the birth with two healthy bubs at the local hospital for a post partum checkup :laughing:

all this kind of proves the point that not all hospitals and OBs are caesar hungry maniacs......doesn't it?!!!!!!!

Each persons experiences are different, and each case will probably be looked at on the facts as they present at the time. Increasing caesar rates are a worldwide thing, not just Oz.

On the other side of the coin, there was a documentary on last night here in the `uk called Tonight with Trevor Mcdonald - a well known and respected newsreader here - it was looking into the financial crisis hitting the UK's maternity units. The Royal college of Midwives has announced that the NHS is 10,000midwives short. Now therer are 1000's of newly trained midwives here who have no job to go to cos of a LACK of funding. Many NHS trusts are well over their budgets and are being told to cut back. The first units to get hit, was the maternity. Many are closing down.

a young couple were featured - i sobbed my guts out watching it - the mum had gone into a natural midwife led birthing unit and whikst the mum was in the birthing pool her baby's heartbeat started to slow down.

The male director of midwives came into see her and said that they were going to transfer her to the local maternity unit to be monitored. they got her there - IT WAS FULL AND NOT ACCEPTING ANY MORE ADMISSIONS!!!!! she was then transferred to another unit an hour or so away.

upon reaching the unit she was taken into a birthing suite and told to push - there was a panic on cos the baby had been decelerating for over 2 hours. The little boy, Jake, was born 45 mins later - dead.:gloomy:

My DH was upset and looked at me concerned.

The hospital are now currently involved in legal proceedings and will not comment, although the Trust have said that she should have been offered an immediate caesar as a result of the delay.

I think birthing is a miraculous experience, and when i hear of all these mums that had poor deliveries as a result of staff/unit shortages etc whether by section or vb i get really upset.

I suppose the clumsy point i am making is that all i want and many mothers is a happy outcome, a happy healthy baby and not lie there like that poor woman who was conned by an underfinanced and understaffed system.

The tragedy is that many units in Oz are going through similar staffing issues and are recruiting from the UK.

Becca, the pics are inspiring and show the miracle of birth to its full extent.

like everybodies experience of birth are different, so are experiences of pregnancy etc. I have been in agony from day 1 cos of various health problems and i would have my OB deliver today if he would cooperate....he's too driven by the health of the baby!!!!!! Goddamn i know he's right but i cannot stand the pain much longer.
