Hi all,

I am pregnant and seriously considering going cloth.

I was at the Melbourne Baby Expo on the weekend and saw all the different stands. The one that stood out to me most was Pea Pods.

Does anyone use these? They look and sound so good, but it would be great to have confirmation from someone who has actually used them.

Appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks!

I love peapods!!! so easy to use and we dont get leaks. and my daughter cant get them off which is a bonus. not sure if the new look ones are diff i have the older ones. i usually use the hemp fold up that they come with and either a microfibre booster or a hemp booster from cherubskiss(they are shaped better and greenkids had run out). not too expensive either!:thumbsup:

Thanks, Cel!

I was just going to use them as is, with the night booster for overnights. I notice heaps of people on the cloth forums have heaps of different types, but I thought I'd make it simple for myself and just use them as they come.

The hemp insert they come with looks very thick and absorbent. I just wanted to check with other Mums because I'd never heard of them before yesterday and they look great!

Thanks again!

I do have some Pea Pods and they are good but are definately on the large side...so be sure to watch your sizing!

I too was going to make thigns easy for myself and just use the one type but.....you get addicted and will be forever on the hunt for the best one! (well thats my excuse anyway). My favs are Fuzzi Bunz...very similar to Pea Pods, but I just find they sit better across the front and are softer with the microfibre inserts instead of the hemp! Welcome to the land of cloth!

I use pea pods... have no troubles with them. I add a micro fibre cleaning cloth folded in threes, inside the folded hemp and they last for hours!

There are a few other threads on here with info on pea pods, may be worth checking out ;)

I bought one Pea Pods, and I'm sorry to say, but I wont be buying another one.

I use the hemp and microfiber insert TOGETHER, and still get leaks. I don't think my DD is a particularly heavy wetter, but it still leaks.

Also, the pocket opening at the back is really big and I've found that if a singlet is touching the back of the nappy (which it alway will) the moisture wicks up the singlet making baby wet and cold.

I know that financially they are an attractive option, but I really think it is work paying the extra couple of dollars each to buy a better quality nappy.

Also, I really don't think they will fit on a new born. I bout the smallest size for my 8kg daughter, and I have it done up on the tightest settings!

Cute Tooshies were also at the expo. Did you have a look at them? They are an exceptional nappy! My favourite at the moment - and I have a pretty big collection. Tots Bots and Mother-eaase are also really worth considering - and only a tiny bit more expensive than the Pea Pods.

I hope this helps.

Jessica.

We love our Peapods - they are all we use and find them a reliable nappy - I think it depends on how they fit your bub. We use them with a microfibre booster folded at front and never get a leak.

I know what you mean about keeping it simple and in my opinion they are easy to use, well priced and reliable.

I have a couple of the old style peapods and haven't had any probs with them. I use a folded up flannelette flat nappy in mine, if she's having a sleep I add a microfibre cleaning cloth, like someone else mentioned, (I use the hemp from the peapods in my DD's night nappies coz I'm too lazy to order more hemp). The old ones are big sizes, but I have heard that the new ones fit differently so may fit better. I used to cross the front over and do them up so the nappy fit properly, even tho it did make the front of the nappy look kinda messy.

I'd be interested to hear what others think of the new ones tho :)

I have 3 Pea Pods in my stash and for a cheap nappy they're fine. I use the hemp insert and a microfibre cloth (from the car cleaning section at Big W) and they last quite well. The sizings are on the bigger side so don't get caught out with that. My main complaint with them is that out of all of my clothies these seem to hold the wee smell the most. After asking around on here I found that by doing a hot wash and a good rinse it got rid of it (I usually wash nappies on warm), so a hot wash once a week or even once every second week depending on the smell should keep that under control for you. As you no doubt know from doing your research into cloth, make sure you wash the hemp inserts several times before using to get the maximum absorption out of them. I find that the Pea Pods aren't super snug around the legs and if DS does a runny poo (yes, he still does them at 15 months old ) then they will leak out, but generally they're not too bad. As for the wee leaking out - apparently hemp is very absorbent, but not at a fast rate - so if your child is a fast wee'er then the wee may 'bounce' off the hemp before the hemp has a chance to absorb it - if this is the case then bamboo may be a better option for you as it absorbs more quickly.

Good luck with it all
