My DD is 3 months old now and is tounge tied. When she was first born the pped said that it wasn't a servere case but it wasn't a mild case of it as she still had a few mm to the end of her tounge. He also said that if she was feeding properly then it didn't need to be snipped. But it seems to have gotten worse. There is now no room left, the l;ittle thing under her tounge goes right to the tip of her tounge. So I was just wondering whether anyone else has had to deal with this before and what is involved in getting it snipped?

Isobella had tongue tie, severely, and it was snipped when she was 5 weeks old as she couldn't feed properly and couldnt move her tongue basically at all. It took all of 2 seconds to snip it, there was no blood and no tears, she couldnt care less but INSTANTLY could poke her tongue out!
A local paed did it for us and we had her bottle ready straight away to give to her.
I totally recommend getting it done as it was so simple and solved so many problems and having a tongue tie can cause speech problems later on and thne its harder to correct as not many 3/4/5 year olds like staying still while someone does that... much easier as a little bub! Not just that, but by the time you realise its a problem at those age's, they're going to need extra help with there speech.
Goodluck :)

Ronan had/has mild tounge tie. Luckily, it never seemed to affect his feeding (breast and then later, bottle). And as for speach- I'm open to tips on how to get him to shoosh up for a bit!! Naah, just kiddin!
We may have considered having it snipped if it was going to pose significant problems when it came to feeding... Thankfully we didn't need to. I had actually forgotten all about his tounge tie until I saw this thread!
I really hope that this can be resoved easily- I think that maybe she needs to be checked out by that paed again. And always feel free to get second opinions before doing anything. Never hurts to be as informed as possible about these things  :hugs:
my son Landon was born with tounge tie too, just as bad as your bubs by the sound of things. i was advised by a lactation consultant and speach therapist(ST) to try nipple shields and a dummy(if bubs will take it) as this can help stretch it without needing to be snipped. advent makes great nipple shileds which i am using and they help alot. i went back to the ST after Landon was 6wks old and she told me that it didnt look like it would need to be snipped, but to listen to bub when he starts to talk;if he has no probs with sounds like "da da" and "na na" thats a good sign! alot of STs do not recomend cutting, if needed, until bub is around 2years old!
i hope this helps a bit! do talk to a ST, mine took away alot of my stresses! good luck and i hope your bubs tounge tie stretches soon!!!!

We were told to get DS's tongue tie clipped by a well meaning CHN but back off when she told us not to tell our paed because he disagreed with the practise.
That was when he was about 2 months old though - and the CHN said not to wait too much longer than that. I would go and see a CHN or paed and get their opinion of the current situation.

i was tounge tied and i had the snip when i was in grade 4. for me i had the op and went home that day after the groggyness went away lol.they just cut the skin underneath that makes you toungue tied. i couldnt poke my tounge out at all before the op and now i can. i am still a bit tounge tied coz i cant touch my nose with my toungue and stuff i could go get the op done again but i dont want to lol
the part i remember liking was being aloud to eat ice cream lots lol
my ds2 is tounge tied we were told to keep an eye on it incase it interfeers with feeding.
Yes tongue tie, my son had it when he was born and I had to stop breast feeding as it was excruciating. Three weeks after we left hospital, we visited doctor. In the room I expressed some milk just in case he couldn't attach to my breast after the procedure, as the milk helps against infection, etc. I was quite shocked to discover my son wouldn't be having any sort of local to numb the pain. Due to his young age the doctor wouldn't administer this. Your daughter is older so it might be different, or maybe other doctors do differently. His father held him as I couldn't watch, she cut the web with a pair of scissors, he screamed a minute later he was on my breast finally and painlessly.:) Hope this helps you, as if she doesn't have it done she will probably have speech difficulties, so I was told.

DS 2
I am severely tongue-tied and my ds was too.
Ds has split his tongue-tie through the natural play process which is how they usually try encourage it to happen rather than snipping it these days. Generally, they will fall and the tie will split a little ... I have never found ds bleeding or complaining of being sore, but he was completely tongue-tied and can now poke his tongue out almost as far as his sister!
My tongue-tie is still severe and the only things it stops me from are ...
licking an ice-cream (it's painful when it stretches)
Rolling my R's
Sometimes I trip over my words
Ds does, however, have trouble moving food around his mouth for effective chewing, so we are looking at possibly having it snipped sometime before he starts school. His speech is beautiful and clear and he is a very tuneful little singer.:)
Ds was unable to breastfeed because of it, but I didn't know that it was the reason. It wasn't diagnosed until he was 18mo as I had always thought he was normal as I had no idea I was tongue-tied and his tongue looked just like mine:yes:
