I have been vomiting and unable to hold anything down for over 15 hours. I really dont want to go to the hospital unless I have too (I really cant stand the thought of getting in the car!)

Does anyone have any advice on how long is it safe to wait before I seek medical attention for dehydration???? (im about 7 weeks preg)

When you drink water, and when you bring that up agin, is it still the same temp as when you drank it? If so, id go to the hospital so you dont get yourself overly dehydrated.

hi,
I took suffered terrible morning sickness that seem to last all day. Firstly, my ob suggested drinking one part coke and three parts water. I use to lay in bed and take a table spoon every five minutes. This worked really well for me. Also i went to hospital a number of times and believe me it's worth the effort to get the maxolon injection and drip going. I ended up feeling a millon times better.

hope it clears up soon for you

Cant remember how long i would leave it before going into hospy because i fought tooth & nail each time to stay out of there :o
I couldnt keep anything down most of the time not even water but being at home meant i would try & rest as much as possible usually on the bathroom floor  least this way i was using too much energy etc.
If you feel faint & headachy then i would head in, it is actually better when they set you up on a drip getting some goodness into you. It was just a shame for me because nothing they offered in the way of drugs stopped me being sick i just had to live with it through the pregnancy :(

If I were you I would immediately call a doctor to do a house call. There are tablets and injections that will just about immediately stop the vomitting.

With my first two pregnancies I suffered terribly with vomitting and headaches scared that I would harm the baby but with my last two a couple of times I had to give in to the doctors promise and get better. I am so glad I did, my babies were all fine.

Good luck

I also use sea sickness bands now with this pregnancy, seems to lessen the sickness that's if I wear them all the time!

I think good advice has been given but could you keep an icy pole down? These did make me feel better when I had severe m/s. I couldn't keep water down but icy things were fine.

I really hope you get better soon:hugs:

Try sucking on ice, if that works. Dont drink too much, just little sips if you feel like water. There are things that you can buy from the chemist called ketosticks - and they tell the amount of ketones in your urine - I usually go to hospital when they are moderate.

If nothing works, duck in to the drs. Theres medication that you can take to help take the edge off if its needed.

There is some good advice here, I suffered hypermesis (severe vomiting) with both my pregnancies and was hospitalised both times. Going to the hospital is a hassle but trust me, once they hook that drip up and get some fluids into you and give you some maxalon via IV you will start to improve, usually you follow this up with maxalon tablets once you get back home and even though you will still feel sick, the vomiting should settle down.

Hope you feel better soon :hugs:

I also had severe M/S for the first half of my pregnancy and I couldn't keep anything down. Basically, the thought of eating made me feel sick but I needed to eat to stop from feeling sick, which I think is the case for most people. My OB gave me a maxalon script so I took them every couple of hours which sort of worked. I think I was very dehydrated and I'd lost 10KG from not eating. In hindsight, I wish I had gone to the hospital!

Bub2luv-

I would see your GP or call in one of those Medcall companies that bulk bill and come to your house. They can usually write a prescription. I suffered severe morning sickness and lost a lot of weight and became slightly dehydrated.

Maxalon is usually prescribed to help with the vomitting.

Hope you feel better soon, its such an awful feeling.

hi bub2luv, i'm sorry you're feeling so crook i think you should definitely go to hospital if you haven't already - when i was 7 weeks pg i had to go to hospital coz i couldn't keep anything down after 8 days straight vomiting - no icy poles, ice cubes, plain water, nothing. i saw my GP who sent me straight to hospital and said i should have gone earlier. after they gave me fluids thru an IV drip i felt a million times better. the maxalon tablets they gave me didn't work that well but the drip was definitely worth the trip to hospital. the more fluids you have in you, the better you will feel! xx

Thanks for all the great replies and advice.

The good news is that I am now doing much better.

I was really sick (vomiting every 30 min) for 24 hours and then had a major scare when I started spotting red blood. We went straight down to the emergency room and they put in a drip and gave me some maxalon and it was fantastic - worked straight away.

To check that bubba was alright we had an ultrasound and thankfully bubba is great. At an incredicle 1.4cm tall we saw the little ones heartbeat at an amazing 167 beats per minute!.

The spotting was put down to an implantation tear / bleed and was deemed nothing to worry about. It was so scary after being so sick.

Thanks all again for the great support

Oh thank god everything is fine! :hugs: to you feeling better

Pregnant with DS i was vomitting so bad for 48hrs straight, couldnt hold anything down, teared my throat and started :barf: blood . Was not fun  I was hospitalised 3 times for dehydration pregnant with him and only twice when pregnant with DD.

I am glad the spotting was nothing to worry about and I hope everything continues smoothly :hugs:
