I am contemplating approaching my sister about egg donation and have some questions which I was hoping some of you may be able to answer.

First some background... ...

Hubby and I are awaiting the results of our first IVF/ICSI cycle (I feel like AF is coming so am prepared for a BFN). We are thinking about cycle 2 but I fear my eggs are of too poor a quality given my age (34) and family history of menopause at 37  . My youngest sister is 6 years younger than me, has three boys aged between 5 and 11, is a single mum and doesn't want more children (unless she met a man who wanted more kids). My other sister is only half way through having her children (has 2, wants 4). I am thinking of approaching my youngest sister to donate some of her eggs.

What are the costs involved in egg donation - does medicare cover any?

What are the legallities with known donation?

Is the procedure basically the same as the first part of IVF (drugs, scans, tests and EPU)?

Do you have to use the same clinic as your donor?

Do your cycles have to be in sync?

Sorry if I have :ecomcity: too much but I have so many questions.

Hi Leanne,
I can answer some of your questions but it may be best if you talk to a clinic.
I used Concept when I donated to a known recepient and found them of great help.
If you would like to have a chat about it all if you dont get all your answers just PM me.
Good luck
Sarah :hugs:

Hi Sarah

I suppose I am just hunting for some answers rather than asking my clinic as I don't want to seem to be thinking negatively about the whole IVF/ICSI process. Did your recipients also use Concept?

PM me if you don't wish to post your answers.

Thanks

Hi Leanne,

We both went through concept as they dont have the 6 month quaranteen period, they do fresh transfers.
As for the cost I am unsure as I didn't pay for any of it.
As far as I know medicare rebates all medical proceedures its the rebate that varies.
Yes cycles need to be in sync, they do this with the birth control pill (ironic realy).
As far as I know the proceedure is pretty much the same, only that the donor is going through the egg stimulation part (injections ect) you are taking hormones to get your uterus ready.
The legalities vary from clinic to clinic, we used concept as there was only the 3 month cooling off period (legal across all clinics), other clinics have a quaranteen of 6 months for HIV and Hep C.
I hope this helps some.
Hopefully you wont need any of this and your potential bubbys stick.
