Hi all
I am new to this site and am pregnant with my fourth child, (another boy). After the birth of my first and then again after my twins I had PND but I also suffer from major depression anyway. i was just wondering if anyone out there had taken anti-depressants during pregnancy and if this had affected their baby in any way?

Hi Jenni,
I know alot of people who used anti-depressant during their pregnancy.
If you aren't already on them, then I wouldn't suggest starting them unless you start showing signs of depression again.
If you are already on them, then keep taking them, because withdrawing off them can be pretty terrible sometimes and the risk to your baby isn't high at all if you continue on them.
I know the side effects of using them during pregnancy are; low birth weight babies and some go through withdrawles and are unsetteled for a few days and 2 cases had a twitch in their eye.
Hopefully you won't suffer from PND this time, it pretty much depends on your support network and hormones ;) hopefully things will be different for you this time around.

Thanks Genie
Congratulations on your new arrival. My fourth is another boy, due in January.
I am already on my medication and have been virtually since the birth of my twins, now 6. I have tried some times to come off but I can not do it, they think that my depression is hereditary and not post natal. I have looked up some info on the net and found out similar to what you said but thank you anyway.
Good luck with everything, hopefully four will be as great as three.

I am on prozac and am now 17 weeks, I was advised not to stop it while pregnant.
