Bailey has his annual nasty cough.. I am so over it. I know kids get sick with this weather, but it is quite bad and keeps him up all night.. Cough medicine does nothing for him. I have tried the Vicks and the vapouriser.. but nothing. And I am sick of fighting the doctors about it. He has a nebuliser. I have found it's the only thing that gives him any peace, although never fully.. What else can I do besides the usual ? I NEED sleep :(

Hugs. Sick kids are so hard. Lots of fluids will help a bit. Maybe a teaspoon of honey too. I think it needs to be "local" honey.
The main thing would be someone to help you. Have you got someone who can take turns in the night or give you an hour or so in the morning/day for a rest?

Really sorry for you and your little one.
Have you gone to another doctor for a second opinion?
Hope he gets better soon!

We use medic spray from the chemist and that helps

Also bisolven cough syrup is the one they use for people with emphasyema it usual clears the cough up faster.

We also use a waterless vapouriser in ds's room because I find the ones with water make a chesty cough worse

Hope you little one is better soon and you get some sleep

Thanks everyone.

We are going for a second opinion tomorrow. I get asked alot if he has asthma, but it just gets dismissed quickly by the doctor.

The annoying thing too is, he has been off daycare all last week and now will be this week too.. That's not a cheap bill when he is home with me :(

But that's minor, compared to him having this horendous cough every winter since he was born (he is 3)

I was told my daughter had asthma. After being on puffers for 6 months, the cough continued, breathless etc. I took her to see a paediatrician respiratory specialist. Amazing. Her diagnosed her with persistent bacterial bronchitis. A course of antibiotics and she is so much better.

Ask your gp for a referral to a respiratory specialist. Good luck

If you can, have him sleep in a bit of an upright position. Propped up a little. It helps with the breathing.

Other than that all I can say is good luck and patience. My DS has a flu and it's seen the return of his sleep apnoea. I understand your pain. It will get better again soon (for both of us I hope).

I feel your pain! My ds has had a bad cold on quite laboured breathing for the last few weeks. Unfortunaly it's just one of those things that just has to be ridden out. Things I have tried is raising the bed head, vaporizer, Vicks in the chest and under the feet and keeping him warm. Try and stay away from cough mixtures, some can be nasty and like you said they really don't work. Hope he starts to feel better soon. :hugs:

Thanks for all the replies.

Didn't end up seeing the doc, wanted to try the nebulizer for a few more days.

I am getting a little worried now though.. Bailey has a blocked nose and has started holding his breath for some reason. I have asked him why he does it, but he has no idea.
