Hi there,

My name is Candice Loopstra and I am a psychologist who works with kids under 3 and their families in a Queensland children's hospital emergency department about helping kids cope with procedural pain (e.g., intravenous needle insertions, nasogastric tube insertions, immunisations). I'm currently investigating how parents help their young kids cope with pain and why. Parents are often disregarded when in comes to how best to help kids cope with medical and other pains.

From personally talking to many parents, they have an incredible amount of experience to share and often just have such a drive to find out how best to help their child cope. I have put a set of questionnaires to identify the strategies parents of children under the age of three years, find most effective and why. The questionnaires does take about 30 minutes to complete and as parents, I realise you all are so incredibly busy but I would really appreciate your time so that we can influence the way parents are used in the procedure room and support parents who have kids who will for example, due to chronic medical conditions, needs lots of procedures in their lives.

The questionnaire can be found at: http://survey.qut.edu.au/survey/173393/1703/

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thank you very much for your time!

Hi
You have probably heard of Buzzy for Pain but I have been using it with fantastic results- great for IV insertion, venepuncture or just injections.
