We're having our little man's 1st birthday in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what to serve to eat. There will not be many children, basically just our friends and relatives. We will be having it at a park and have been thinking of just having the birthday cake, some cupcakes, dips and biscuits, carrot and celery sticks, juice and fizzy drink and maybe doing some chicken skewers on the bbq? Any other ideas??

That sounds great to me. Thats the sort of thing we will be doing for Ella's.
I'll be making some fruit kebabs aswell. Stick fruit on a stick! With a couple of marshmallows aswell :) They are yummy & always a hit.
My DD had her 1st birthday in August, we also had it in a park and there were only a few children.
On the menu we had dips (houmous, avocado) and vegie sticks to have with them (capscium, celery, carrot that had been blanched so were soft enough for kids to eat); a big platter of cut up fruit (watermelon, honeydew melon, pineapple, orange, strawberries, grapes etc), plus I made some vegie finger food (as many of the guests were vegetarian) like vegie rotis; spinach & ricotta filo triangles, lentil patties and we had some little chipolata sausages for mini hotdogs (done on the BBQ at the park), and some marinated kebabs (chicken skewers) also for the BBQ plus some personalised champage for the adults, fruit juice for the kids and not forgetting CAKE!!!
If you want any recipes for the finger food, its in the Women's Weekly Cookbook for babies and Toddlers or PM me. I made all the food the night before, its a little fiddly, but was easy and didn't take much time!!
For DDs party a couple of weeks ago we had:
Hot dogs done on the BBQ
potato & green salad
an assortment of dips & cheeses
biscuits & chips for dipping
a fruit platter
Cake (of course)
& the lollies in the piniata
