View Full Version : Two constantly congested children.
Both my kids snore at night and are congested. My son has asthma which he has preventatives for and his asthma seems well controlled but we are having a review tomorrow. My concern is that every time we see a doctor they say neither childs adenoids or tonsils seem a problem.. they probably just have yet another bug. Sometimes we get a course of antibiotics. My sons snoring is freaking me out as he seems to have apneas as well.. what the hell am I meant to do?! If the gp doesn't find anything wrong tomorrow should I demand a referral and if so.. to what kind of specialist?! If your child is a congested child what was the problem and what did you find helped?

Sounds like you need to see an ent :)
yep get a referral for an ENT.
my niece was snoring etc like you've described, she not long had her tonsills and adenoids removed and is much better for it
DD1 used to snore, and you could hear her breathing all night long, she had swollen adenoids and tonsils and when she got a bug it was bad. Because she was so congested in there before it even began, the bug on top of it meant sometimes she had a very restricted airway, bad ear infections cos her eustachian tubes blocked really easily etc.
For us the problem was food intolerances, once we took her off wheat and avoided some nasty additives, the swelling/congestion/snoring just disappeared. We weren't expecting it, we were focusing on her digestive problems and behavioural issues, so it was a really pleasant surprise :) The dietary changes were actually a last ditch attempt to avoid surgery for removal of adenoids/tonsils and insertion of grommets, which never happened cos she improved so much.
I used the fedup.com.au website for my research, I have read on there that certain additives can cause asthma in kids (link to factsheet (http://fedup.com.au/factsheets/symptom-factsheets/asthma-and-food)) so it might be worth a read for you :hugs:

I would get a referral to an ENT Specialist. My DD was always an extremely heavy breather, you could hear her coming it was that bad. She also snored really loud and had OSA. She had her Tonsils and Adenoids removed and is so much better for it.
I also agree with what MrsTiggleWinkle has said. I would look at their diet. Wheat and Dairy can both have effects with congestion as well as Additives and Preservatives. Some good books are Additive Alert and The Failsafe Diet.
Good luck.
Thanks for the replies. The thing is I have taken both of them to the doctor so many times and
Mentioned tonsils and adenoids and the go says they seem fine?!

if its something you are concerned about you are entitled to request a referral to a specialist (ENT) to look into the matter further
