Hi Everyone
I am having one of those days where i have been making wild threats to my children, it all began this morning with the "Santa will know if you are being good or Bad" and has ended at "I am going to take away all your toys until you can look after them better" and I have!! Oh, i feel terrible, but i have to follow through dont I? I suppose it has been building up over the week, my almost 3 yr old has been destroying, literally every toy/book he has come into contact with, or throwing them over the fence to the equally destructive dog next door. My 5 yr old has become a smart Alec, he knows everything and cannot be told, normal, yes i know but I am only willing to listen to so much of his "my way or i"ll throw a huge wobbly" attitude.
I have used charts, "thinking spots" and 123's until i just had to follow through. So here i am, writing it down because i feel terrible, and what are my children doing...................having the best game of Mr. and Mrs. shoe together because there is nothing but a pair of shoes to play with and so they seem to have decided to get on with each other and play nicely for the first time this week!! amazing.
I am not sure how long the toys will stay away, I have told them that they will have to earn them back, so what do you think?? am I being to tough or have i done the right thing with following through??
Thanks for your time
I think i just needed to get it out there!

!

Does this not tell you you have done the right thing?? :yelclap:

Good on you for being true to your word and showing them you mean what you say!! Yes, you feel bad, but I've bet they've learnt a BIG lesson!!

From now on, all you need to do is say you will take them away and they know you will mean it and behave

I'd leave them at least 24 hours....or until you can handle the boredom no more!!

Dont feel bad.....we've all been there. (I actually threw one of DS's toys into the outside bin on bin night, without DH knowing, and of course the garbos came the next morning and took it away..... Ooops....but the threat works now at least!)
