This is my second time around and my first child was delivered by Fiona Dalzell, but I was not all that happy with her so have decided to find someone else to deliver my second child. I have looked up the web site to find any recommendations and have found Dr Douglas Keeping on several websites with people recommending him. Does anyone have information on him - good or bad? I have booked with him and am due in June next year, but want some more information before my first appt with him in december. Can anyone give me any info? :p

We've been seeing Dr. Doug Keeping on Wickham Tce. He operates out of the Mater Hospital and has beeen fantastic. Very professional but not cold or aloof. My wife is really comfortable with him and from my perspective this was the most important aspect of finding an OB. Another consideration is, of course fees, Dr. keeping has a no gap policy and no exorbitant "booking fee". We've heard nothing but glowing reports from others and his office staff are very helpful and pleasant.
He's been on holidays for the last 4 weeks or so, and the doctor who's filling in for him is equally warm and professional (Dr. Bear - or something!). Get as many referrals as possible from other mums and dads - I find personal recommendations always settles big decisions for me.

Good luck!

Joey

Thanks for your information regarding Dr Douglas Keeping. I am slowly gathering lots of good information on him. Nothing negative yet. Hope I will feel as comfortable as your wife does with him - not used to seeing a male doctor.

Once again, thanks heaps for responding back to me.

Yep, Dr Doug was our OB. We found him quite good...although it was our first baby so nothing to compare to.

We found Doug good.....he is very laid back though.....for example...I started talking about birth plans and he pretty much told me that I needed to just go with the flow on the day and not get too hung up on a birth plan.....this suited me...so I found him good.

He was very easy to talk to and also easily contactable...we had a few problems around 32 weeks and I could call him at home any time which was great.

Good luck

We've found him very laid back as well, which I love, Joey had a fall down a huge flight of concrete stairs (bloody high heels!) a few weeks back and rung me at work in tears - long story short: Dr Keeping's staff were excellent in a scary situation, we were in there to see him very shortly afterwards and he was really reassuring.

Bub was fine, Joey lost some bark off her legs and had trouble walking for a few days but was/is otherwise ok too. I think Dr. Keepings attitude seems to rub off on us, quiet confidence or something - it's nice.

Good luck.

Hi

I just want to give my thumbs up for Dr keeping. I also found him very laid back and I felt comfortable with him as well. Although this was my first, I had been going to see Dr Kilvert to try and fall pregnant and was disappointed that he was no longer delivery. I was happy to find out that Dr keeping and Dr Kilvert were very similar which reassured me. Good Luck :)

Whilst I used a female ob (my own hang up), I have 2 friends who each used Doug Keeping and thought he was fantastic. They each were having their 2nd child so had a previous ob to compare him to.

Hope that feedback helps.

:) Dr Keeping is fantastic! I was seeing him as a 'fertility specialist' before my son was born and Dr Keeping was great and very positive. I feel pregnant before we even tried IVF - thanks to Dr Keeping. Then I continued seeing him as my OB and he is so wonderful. Very relaxed and again, positive. Added bonus was the costs (if you have private cover). I didn't pay a cent with my pregnancy / birth with him. His staff were very lovely too. I would see him again and I recommend him to everyone. Once at the Mater Hospital to deliver Michael, ALL the midwifes praised Dr Keeping - he is the most busiest there! Also, he is known to not allow his patients to tear or rip during birth, he is very gentle. All I heard in the hospital from the midwifes was praise praise praise and that they would see him / or have seen him for their pregnancies. YOU WON"T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

Dont know if this thread is still going but wanted to add my comments regards Dr Keeping. I fell pregnant naturally last Sept 05 and my friend who has had 2 children recommended Dr Keeping. Unfortunatley I had whats called a missed misscarriage which Dr Keeping discovered in my first scan at our 12 week appointment. We were both very shocked and even though Im sure Dr Keeping experiences this type of thing all the time he was very caring and answered all our questions. Dr Keeping has been very positive and has assured us that there is no reason why we cant be pregnant again this year (06). Ive just started my first lot of Clomid to help with getting pregnant again. Have no hesitation in recommending Dr Keeping. He's great!

Just wanted to add my 2 cents from a former delivery of Dr Keeping and Dr Kilvert :)
Dr Kilvert delivered me 21 years ago as Dr Keeping didnt make it in time and my Mum still has nothing but good things to say about them! She will be happy to know he is still doing his job. My parents went through 6 years of fertility treatments with them only to get pregnant with me naturally, he insisted on delivering me anyway!
So Im living proof they are good at what they do

I had my first apt with Dr Keeping on Thursday and found him to be wonderful. Very laidback and straight to the point but at the same time very caring. I can tell already that I am going to love him:hugs:. I have not read or heard a single bad comment about him.

Does anyone know if Dr Keeping also delivers at the Wesley or does he just deliver at the Mater?

Thanks,

I am told that Dr Keeping only delivers at the Mater

DR Keeping is also my OBS and I think he is great, very caring and calm. I feel as though I am in good hands. Also my doc whos father is also an OB said that he is known throughout Australia to be one of Brisbanes best obstetricians and ferility specialists. Also, his staff are lovely Leanne, his receptionist is really friendly and helfull

Just wanted to add our two cents worth...he's fantastic! Caring, gentle, kind and laidback. We had our little Bronte after one cycle of Ivf with Doug and his calm and reassuring manner I believe helped us to relax and fall pregnant! We had bleeding through the pregnancy and both he and his staff were unbelievably wonderful. We nevere had a problem getting in to see him at short notice despite the fact he is so busy.We have just been to see him to discuss number two and realised how much we missed him!

Good luck!!

I have heard that in one of the births he did around the same time my little man was born he was getting a little frustrated at this lady that was labouring and he was trying to tell her to manouvre her body but she didn't want to move so he moved her and it actually killed the baby!:crying:

Andrea_gr - I am so sorry you had such a bad experience :hugs:. Even though my last birth experience was different to yours, I know how it feels not to get the birth you want & to feel you have no voice or control - it can be traumatising. I'm glad that the reason I am going with Dr Keeping is b/c I actually WANT an elective c/s (very big baby & bad experience with vb last time). I have heard that many private doctors do try & encourage c/s b/c they can fit it in with their own schedules. This is very unfortunate for people who do want to go natural. I only wish you the best for next time. Hopefully you will find a doctor who is on the same wave-length with you:fingerscrossed:.
