Right well the flights are booked....22nd November :smiliedance:
We are flying in the morning, 12 1/2 hr flight and arrive in Singapore in their morning time, so got to try and keep the bub awake with regular naps so we can convert her to sleeping in Auz night time rather then UK night time which is going to be very difficult :(
We are splashing out and staying in a really posh hotel for a couple of nights and it has a baby sitting service
Then it's a 6 1/2 hour flight to Adelaide, not so bad.
Any tips for flying with a little one?

Patience Patience and more patience!
I would suggest lots of singing and book reading, a few fav toys and thats about all you can do. Try not to worry about what other passengers think, they will be grumpy and tired of the whole trip too
Good Luck

I was watching getaway or something and they were talking about this. The best tip I saw was having cheap presents, wrapped in a few layers, at the rate of 1 per hour.... you give it to them when they get a bit yucky, they take a while opening, they play with the new toy, then the cycle repeats!

Are you staying at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore?
Londonmum

Thanks for the tips, I've been told about taking some karvel drops in case drinking doesn't help with the pressure but all tips are greatfully recieved.
Misses S....... Yep we are staying at the Shangra-La, it looks really nice. Have you stayed there?

Ooohhhhhh Shangri-La you lucky thing. Yes, we stayed there in the Valley Wing..........the most amazing hotel I've ever stayed in. President Bush and his wife stayed there just a couple of weeks before us so they were telling us all about that. If you pay a bit extra to stay in the Valley Wing........you get free Moet (and other drinks) all day. So I spent 4 days in Singapore drunk on Moet :D And you'll feel like royalty when having your breakfast and just being in your room with the most stunning chandeliers and furniture and service.........I could go on & on. Enjoy it!!

Niiiiice :D Well as we are flying Singapore Airways they offer special packages for stopovers, so we are getting to stay at the hotel cheaper then it would normally be and we also get to go into Singapore's parks and stuff for free
Did you take advantage of the babysitting service? Or not have a child then?

Well it's one of those once in a life time things you've just gotta do
Does anyone know where we can get a cheep but reliable second hand car from?
Price of renting is really high so don't want to rely on that for too long.

PS: We had spag bog!
Sorry I cant help with the car issue.. I've been lucky with my car.. bought it from the little old lady next-door when she wasn't allowed to drive it anymore. She took such good care of it, poor little Barina is 15 years old and when I bought it three years ago, it'd never had a full tank in it nor gone over 80kph  like brand new!
Good luck! Bet you're counting the days! :smiliedance:
Good luck with the flight over here. The Shangri-La sounds really nice.
Look forward to meeting you

Here's a good website for you to start checking out some cars. You can limit your search to just SA and look at both dealer or private cars for sale:

Thanks everyone, I'm looking forward to meeting you all too. As it is I'm sure Nan must think me a stalker or something as I've pestered her so much over the last couple months with questions, so I thought I'd give her a break :D
Thanks Misses S, I'll check that site out. Hire cars are so expensive so we just want to get something soon as poss.

Hi Londonmum
I have been following your story and wanted to pop in here and say congrats on your move to Oz, so pleased to hear the sale of the flat is going through and flights are booked etc.
Do you have any family here or will you be by yourselves?
I am a fellow pom (have lived here almost 14 years now). So if you have any questions, please PM me, I will be happy to help.
What sort of car are you looking for, eg small, medium, large or 4WD?
Here are some websites to have a look at;
www.carpoint.com.au (http://www.carpoint.com.au)
www.drive.com.au (http://www.drive.com.au)
www.tradingpost.com.au (http://www.tradingpost.com.au)
You can get a bargain from eBay, but do your homework first on the type of car and value.
This website will give you current market values for secondhand cars;
www.redbook.com.au (http://www.redbook.com.au)
Good luck with the move :)

Thanks Hels, that'll give the hubby somthing to look at. We are only looking for something cheap to get us about till we are more established, now me I'd like a nice toyota (?sp) people carrier esp as hubby wants more kids
We have no family in Auz, well hubby's dad lives somewhere up north (they are not in contact) but other then that we have no one which is why I joined this forum and have already gotten to know a couple of very lovely ladies like Nan :hugs: Who I agree is brilliant, an absolute star

Hey Londonmum! I am new to this forum (relatively) and only just realised there was an adelaide thread lol. My partner is from London and he is moving here next year, well he is here at the moment but it going home for Christmas then coming back :)
No bubs at the moment but are trying. You will love living in South Australia, my DF thought he would hate it but here he is deciding to live here permanently rather then shift me to England again lol! Good luck with everything!

Cheers Laine, Just counting down the days now.........20 to go before we fly out.
Have mostly packed the last of our stuff but need to pick up a couple of suitcases to go with our large backpacks (we got them years ago for travelling which we never really got round to doing). The cat should be shipped out by the end of the month and we are waiting to hear back from a couple of estate agents in Mt Barker re rental property's, so it's all go :)
We've been trying to convince some of our friends to come out to Auz to live, some are keen but not sure so we're still working on them ;)
