Hi, curious to see who was home Schooled as a child..... How many years for? Did you enjoy it? How do you now as an adult with an adults perspective feel about it?

I was home schooled for grade 3, as the school we attended got a principal whom was physically & mentally abusive to my disabled brother...
It was ok, nothing against my mother but she wasnt born to be a teacher, and I recall a lot of very slack days LOL
Very glad we moved and started at a new school.

I was home schooled for a few months when i was 6 or 7. Cant remember my age but was ok i guess. Cant really remember much about it though.

No, but I went to a school that took boarders from years 8 to 12 and roughly 65% were homeschooled for all of primary school, and dd's god-mother was 1 of 7 who were homeschooled until year 10, 2 did to year 12 at my school and 4 did to year 10 only, one is in year 10 now and is doing a boilermaker apprenticeship too. One finished year 10 then did a childcare diploma and works in childcare now at 18 with a diploma. 2 did mechanic courses and are now fully qualified mechanics. One is currently doing a social work degree (has 3 kids, 2 homeschooled, one under school age), dd's god-mother found her dd would cope better in a school environment, did primary teaching at university, now has a 4yo ds who will be homeschooled, he doesn't cope in a learning institution. Another from that family travels the world helping people.

Anyway no, but I know more who were than who were not.

DH Was home schooled from age 9.

His mother was not a teaching type. at 14 he was given a computer and realised he couldn't use it without reading. So he taught himself to read. He says if the Home School Teaching parent was willing to try and actually applied themselves to it, then it would be great for someone like him. However with his mother it was not a good mix.

He doesn't mind the idea of us doing it if our child wasn't working well with a classroom format, but would like to try several schools before making that decision.

Not officially, but for most of primary school i did, probably about half at school, half homeschooled
it worked very well for me. I was never diagnosed as ASD, but the school often didn't push me enough, and i struggled with the social aspects
but my mum was a registered teacher before she had kids, and she had worked with special needs kids - so even without knowing i was special needs, she was very good at tailoring the work i did to me.

I don't know if it worked well because i was a very tenacious student, and lapped the info up - or because my mum was a good teacher. or a mix of the two. But it was wonderful at the time. Although not very structured. And she built a lot on what we did at school, and taught me a second language - rather than having to come up with her own learning plan.
That said, we're both very glad that i made the decision to go to a public highschool rather than attempting homeschooling for those grades.

Its also not an option that is available anymore - because they've changed the way the schooling works in our state, and the part-time homeschooling is no longer allowed :(
