Hi ladies :D
I am training to be a doula (birth assistant) and I need 3 pregnant ladies from Melbourne to practice on..lol
This would usually cost between $800 - $1200 but because I am a student, it will be absolutly free.
There is no health risk having a doula as I would assist with either hospital births OR home births and would be assisting with a midwife and/or Obstetrician.
Basically, I would get to know you throughout the pregnancy and stay during the entire labor and give on going postnatal support.
During labour a Doula helps with natural pain relief ie; massage, Reiki, Shiatsu, Aromatherapy, etc and also provides emotional support for the Dads or other family and friends at the birth. Sometimes it can be very hard to watch loved ones in pain, so a doula can help the support people stay calm and confident.

Please PM me if you are interested :D

Hi Genie,

I am currently doing my Doula Certification with Childbirth International, and working with two clients as part of my certification.

How are you enjoying your training? Have you arranged your certification births? Who are you studying with? What "called" you to become a Doula and work with woman? :)

Looking forward to networking with you. Are you going to the Doula conference in November?

Cheers,

Did anyone go to the Doula Conference? I went - it was brilliant. Next year they are holding it in QLD - WoOoo hOooO! I'll be there for sure.

Yep, I went. It was wonderful. Completely mind blowing. Now, it's just bringing the messages taught there to the masses that is the tricky part. ;)

Rachana, Daricha, Rhea, Chris, Patrice, Fiona, Sunderai...they were all amazing. What a blessing to share in their wisdom.

Watching Davini's DVD of the water Lotus Birth of her twins was amazing. That DVD is next on my "shopping list" for my Doula library! I've already invested in Rachana's "Lotus Birth" book and Daricha's "The First Gaze" CD.

And it was so great to meet so many fellow Doulas, and those considering becoming Doulas.

Can't wait for next year - and with Chris hosting it, it's sure to be a hoot! :D

Yeah tell me about it, I have all this fire in my belly since the conference but it's just spreading the word now ;) I have actually seen the Lotus Birth DVD before as I supported a twin birth 9 weeks ago, and I am being taught by Rhea, so I have some very amazing people around me which I feel blessed for. It's funny, some of Rhea's birth education clients have said that they have watched my website completely transform since doing my training with her LOL! It's almost over now, this is the last month of Rhea's course and I am so sad!!! I have loved being surrounded by so many delicious women.

And yes, Chris will put on quite a show ;) She's going to be fabulous for the Doula Movement, I have offered my services in anyway possible to help with it too. I hope every single woman can one day access a doula or birth attendant if she wants one.

That first gaze stuff was AMAZING... one of my faves too... but they were ALL so good!!! Email me if you want to chat more would love to talk more about it! info@**********.com.au

You Doulas must provide a wonderful service to ladies out there. I would love to have a doula at my birth, but budgetry issues prevent that from happening!

Would it be possible to find an Adelaide training Doula? I already have a training midwife follow my pregnancy. I wonder if that would make things a little too crowded?

Hi Trix :) ,

Your best bet for finding a Doula in Training in Adelaide is to contact Doula Express (they run their own Doula Certification course, so should have some Doulas in Training that may be available for you).

Your can reach them on 1300 139 507, or check out their website at www.e-lifeoptions.com/

It would be well worth your while to have a Doula at your birth - a Doula in Training still comes to you with a solid knowledge base, a large range of useful contacts, birthing aides and literature, and a hefty set of skills. :) A Doula and Midwife should be able to work harmoniously together, each complimenting the presence of the other. A cohesive and skilled support team is essential for an optimal birth.

Very best wishes for your pregnancy and birthing journey!
