View Full Version : Bugaboo Bee - on not so smooth surfaces
So I've been reading Product Review all week trying to find a great pram that is small, light and will suit a newborn that is likely to grow very tall very fast like it's parents. I have hit upon the Bugaboo Bee.
However, I'm not really one to hang around in smooth-floored shopping centres very often and I'd like to go for a walk every day around the neighbourhood. Looking at those little wheels I am wondering if the Bee is up to getting over cracks and uneven paths well.
Bee owners, does it sound like I should keep looking or does it manage fine?

I have a bee. I AM one to hang around the shops and I LOVE LOVE it for that. Tbh I have never taken it on the bumpy roads but I recon find one with better suspension.
I have a rock star baby and it has amazing suspension and nice squishy wheels and that's the one I take out on the street. I'm selling it when I can be bothered because I haven't used it in forever! But it's a great pram when I do use it!

We used to walk from home into the city every day with ours and it handled really well on bumpy, rocky surfaces. It went over all types of footpaths like a dream. It's lightness is also fantastic for hills.
We went from a Chameleon and when we looked for a stroller we wanted something that would be a workhorse given it was going to walk 5 or so kms every day. It was the only one we felt would hold up the way we wanted to and it didn't disappointed. Despite a year of that treatment it is still all but brand new feeling.
We also took it on quite a few dirt type tracks on the weekend. Not that anything is ever going to feel amazingly smooth on really rough and bumpy surfaces, but we were really happy with the Bee.

Wow! I am impressed! Thanks so much for your feedback, I am feeling much happier about the Bee now. :bee:
I'm not looking for something that is going to be a super smooth ride IYKWIM, but I don't want to be walking somewhere and have a wheel snap off halfway! That would suck big time!
I googled the Rock Star Baby eleven eleven, but it looks kinda big. We drive a VW Golf, and I don't want something that takes up the entire boot. At least I have your recommendation for when we're at the shops. :)
I absolutely love the bee and cameleon but my husband talked me into getting a mountain buggy swift. Tbh it is a fantastic lightweight pram that is very versatile and smooth on all surfaces! And it's slim which means it can go through aisles and small shops easily. It's also only 9kg. Sorry to confuse - as if there aren't enough prams to choose from already!!
When we have our 2nd bubs I will probably buy a donkey.

Bec, I actually saw a friends MB yesterday but it just looked sort of massive! Does it fold up small to get in the boot? I have seen it gets good reviews.

The reason why I have a Bee. I drive a swift. Seriously tiny boot!!
The Bee is AMAZING at the shops! So smooth and small to get in between places!
There is no way that the bugaboo chameleon was going to fit in my boot either.
But anyway my DD won't sit in any pram now so they are all a waste of time!!
I have a bee and walk most days at least 30mins over bumpy pavements with no problems. I love that it's light and compact and folds up easily.

I have a mb swift. Awesome pram. It's not big at all, but good for tall babies. Maybe your friend had a mb urban?they are very bulky looking.
I too am getting a donkey when we have number two baby
I would get the Bee for a light stroller. I tried DS who was 25 months at the time in the swift and he was already hitting the canopy. I've seen a lady walking with her bee around my neighbourhood.

Yeah the mb swift is quite small I think the mb urban is a lot bigger! The swift folds up and easily fits in the boot of my barina with heaps of room to spare!

I love my Bee at the shops. I love that I can get it out of the boot and set it up with one hand with DD in the other arm.
I think it would hold up well on pavement as they're durable, but must admit that I find it very bumpy and hard to push over curbs as opposed to the Cameleon - which just glides over bumpy services.
That said - DD hated the bassinet for the Cameleon and was very comfy in the Bee as a newborn.
