I don't have a child of that age but I would think that this is pretty normal behaviour for a 17 month old. I'm sure she'll grow out of it when she's ready.

DD2 was like that. She carried her froggy around everywhere. Wouldn't go to sleep without it and cried if it was lefted at daycare.

It has only been the last 2 weeks that she has been able to go to sleep without it, and it has been about 6 months not having to take it to daycare.

So i think it is faze that she might be going through. :fingerscrossed: she doesn't lose it.

my son was like that since he was young... he grew out of it from 2 1/2 onwards... but still makes sure teddy is near by if he needs him for comfort. and he is 4 now... but only relys on teddy for sleeping on stormy or scarry nights... or sometimes just likes taking him shopping...

Yeah, ds has only just finished going through this faze (he's 2.5 :o ) He still needs 'bear' for bedtime, but he's not permanately attached anymore.

My boy is 18months old and has a blankie that goes everywhere with him.
I have two identical ones that I can swap, because they get filthy.
He drags it everywhere in his mouth yuck!!
BUT - it was great when I took him to NZ for the first time. It gave some some security and comfort whilst away from the familiarity of home, that is all it is.
I would not worry about it she will grow out of it eventually. My sons blankie doesn't bother me apart from having to wash it all the time!!

i would be glad if my daughter carried around a teddy. my 2 1/2 year old daughter use to carry a cot size blanket around. she was about 15months when she started we have now convinced her that it is only for bed although she will carry/drag it around when she is sick or just tied it's a very good indication of either. so don't worry i feel it can be slowly weined off them.

The only advise is don't ever loose it and carry earplugs with you if it does get accidentaly left behind. My daughter has both a blankie and a little lamb called Lambie. But then I sleep with a teddy, can't actually sleep without it either :o

Yep, my lil one's a blankie girl. We have 2 so we can wash one at a time, which has worked out great, but she has had a gastro bug the past week and it's been quite the challenge to keep one vomit-free til the other one's washed! LOL Have washed em both about 4x in the last 5 days

Lately we have been teaching her to leave it in the cot, but since she's been sick I just can't bear to take it from her. I know I may be fostering bad habits, but if it's a comfort to her while she's feeling so yuk, (and minimises the whinging!) she can have whatever she wants!

She was given a giant teddy for her birthday (twice her size!) and seemed like she might try dragging that everywhere for a while, but she soon figured out it was a bit too much effort, and went back to the blankie  Smart girl! LOL

Im not sure as i dont have a child that age but i suggest maybe making a song and when it comes to bath time put the teddy down and start singing the song with her... hopefully she will be more interested in that then the teddy.... incorporate some hand movements for her to do so she has to think about it, not the bear and hopefully you can get her to forget about the bear fast enought to get her in the bath where there are other toys. Just a suggestion.

My daughter was the same with her blankie.

Every time I washed it, she'd sit at the washing machine screaming, then she'd stand at the clothes line twisting her favourite corner while it dried.

My mum got her out of the habit of dragging it everywhere when she was 3, but she still can't sleep without it.
