Has anyone used doctor Emma O'Shea, Paul Fowler or James Ferry in Manly? If so, I would really value any feedback you have!
Particularly; what is their bedside manner like? Are they relaxed and easy going, or overly medicalised about the whole process?
Are they timely with their antenatal appointments?
What ages are they and do they have children of their own?
Thank you in advance!!

Sorry I can't help personally, but I live in Manly and a few Mums at my Mothers Group had their babies at Manly Hosp (I had DD at the Royal North Shore). I will ask if they know any of the docs and let you know :)

Hello filledebebe
I had a recent appointment with Dr Ferry for a abnormal smear.
While I was stressed to the max thinking something was wrong, it all washed away when I went in for my appointment with him. I had to wait a little bit maybe 30mins.
He is very very good. Talks to you like an equal, is very matter of fact which I like - no sugar coating.
He ended up performing the proceedure then and there and was very professional.
It was a bit expensive, that is my only complaint.
PM me if you want anymore info! good luck

Hi there,
I personally had Dr Chris Hunter (Nth Shore Private) But I had my baby at the Mater hospital as well.
The Mater hospital is amazing - you will be so pleased with it. I would definately go back there to have my second.
Let me know who you go with :)

Hi,
My doctor is Emma O'Shea and although i've only had one appointment she seems very nice and gave us plenty of time and attention to ask all our questions (first baby!) We didn't have to wait long at all and her manner was very calm and gentle.
Her receptionist was also fantastic in sqeezing me in when I was 11 weeks and everyone else was booked up, so it has been a positive experience all round.
Hope this helps, good luck!

Can I just add, I had my baby at Manly Hospitals Birthing Centre and it was FANTASTIC.
With the exception of 1-2 of the midwives there, I found the rest 8-9 very nice, pleasant, and helpful. I thought it was a great hospital because it was so small, and that meant they remembered who you were. There was a spunky doctor there too.. who was more then happy to let me go at least 10-14days over. Very helpful. Forget his name though.
Oh, and they let me birth in the water- which is quite rare now days.
Good luck!
If I was going obs care, I'd INTERVIEW each of the three doctors till I was satisfied :)

FYI to anyone reading this thread. I'm 17 weeks and using Dr Fowler who I find to be good, chilled out, friendly. The receptionist is also great and scheduling appointments that work for me. I've had two appointments, the first one had to be rescheduled as he was delivering a baby and the second one he was late by 20 min (same reason) but you expect this as unavoidable and you can call and check before you go. My girlfriend is having her third with Dr O'Shea and loves her but I'm having mine at North Shore Private and she doesn't deliver there. Dr O'Shea is apparantly a quiete or reserved type of Doctor. My sister in law recently needed a gyno but didn't go to this clinic as was apparantly about $70 more expensive for an IUD insertion appointment than a Mona Vale doc.

It would be a good idea to interview all the doctors, as a PP mentioned, because we all get along with different people and a dr who one person gets along with well might be someone you don't get along with at all.
When you interview them, have in mind the sort of birth that you want to have, and ask them questions geared towards that. eg, if you're wanting a natural birth wihtout an epidural, ask them how many of their patients have this type of birth. ask what their CS rate is, how many episiotomies they do etc.
A few people have mentioned public care at manly - they have a wonderful public midwifery service and you can have a waterbirth with this service, but most likely not with a private obstetrician.
