Hi all,

We moved to Canberra two months ago for my husbands job. I'm sure none of you will be surprised, but I can't find daycare! I quit my job to move here and need to start working again, but can't until I can find suitable care for my little ones.

They are almost two and almost three years old, which makes it trickier trying to get two spots!

Does ANYONE know of ANYONE who does family daycare who might have spots available. Or does anyone know of a nanny or carer looking for two to three days work per week?

I am absolutely desperate, I have called everyone under the sun, with no success. Please, if anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate your help.

It seems to be in Canberra, she who calls the most gets a place, regardless of where you are on the list. So keep calling the daycare centres you like, every week and hopefully some days will come up.

Have you tried occasional care? There is an occasional care centre at Charnwood shops that you may be able to use also.

Thanks Davally, I will have to become that "she"!

It's almost funny, the day cares reactions when I ring! Almost.

I'll check out Charnwood as well. Appreciate your response.

There is a parenting site (can't remember the name though) that lists all the day cares in Canberra and all the family day carers. It took me nearly 18 months to get my DS into the centre near my house 2 days a week and I called every month. Good luck

Oh you could also check allclassifieds - I'm sure I've seen ppls advertise nanny/carer/fdc on there before

Thanks Tormy! 18 months !!! Wow. I've had a look at all classified but the available people all seem to be in Tuggeranong or thereabouts. I'll keep checking though.

yeh it took along time. I had to go back to work before they had a spot for him so i had to put my DS into a differnt centre that was about 15mins away. Also if you goto mychild.gov.au you should be able to find fdc's in ur area that may have vacancies.
