View Full Version : 8.5 month old routine.
Hi all, I know this has probably been done a thousand times before and if so if you could link me to the thread that would be awesome, I can never find exactly what I am looking for on the search function ( call me stoopid ).
DS is 8.5 months old and I am just wondering what other mum's/dad's routines are for their bubs. I am just a little confused at the moment becuase I think we are entering a transition phase where he could possibly drop to 2 naps a day but isn't quite ready iykwim. (I've tried the 2 naps but he is really hard to settle at bed time and wakes frequently for the first 2-3 hrs after going to sleep...due to overtiredness I'm guessing). I'm also interested in your feeding "routine". Does your bub have milk first and food later, at what times etcetc. DS is a REALLY fussy eater, just looking to see if his fussiness has anything to do with our routine. If you could give me a quick rundown of your day that would be awesome! TIA :)

Hi! My dd is 8.5 months too and we have a pretty structured routine that doesn't really change unless we go out somewhere. And then she just adapts.
It is:
7am wake up, have a bottle
8am breakfast (porridge, she's not into toast)
9:20am story and bed
11am wake up, have a bottle (usually only drinks half)
12 noon lunch
1:20pm, story and bed
Then she'll she sleep till atleast 2:30, sometimes 3pm
3pm have a bottle (usually only drinks half)
5pm dinner
6pm bath
6:30pm last bottle
7pm bed
And then she's out for the count! Hope that helps!

No hard and fast routines here, only DDs own routine she has established. We judge it on the day and how she is going. However we do have dinner at 6- 6.30 and bath afterwards. We demand feed and do baby lead weaning with food. As it is all on demand there is no issue on which comes first. DD usually has a sleep around 9am and another around 1pm and another one around 4pm.

DS is 10 months old but has been on the same routine since he was 8 months old, which is when he dropped his third nap.
DS wakes up anytime between 7-8:30am. This week he has been waking up at 8:30 so his routine has been like this:
8:30 wake up
Bottle 150-180ml
Play time
9:30 breakfast- fruit, toast or cereal
Play time
10:30 naps until 11:30-12
12:30 bottle 80-120ml
1:30- lunch
Play time
2:30-3pm- nap
4pm- bottle
Dinner is at 5 or 5:30
6:30 bath
Bottle
7pm- bed

My daughter is a late sleeper, we don't have a strict routine we tend to take her lead. An average day goes something like this:
9/9:30 wake
10 am bottle 210ml ( she never wants to eat strait away)
10:30am breakfast 2 tablespoons ceral & 2 tablespoons fruit
11:30 nap usually 50 min to 1 1/2 hours
12:30 wake & lunch 2 tablespoons yogurt
1:30 bottle 180mls
2:30 nap at least 1 hour
3:30 wake
4:30 bottle 180mls
5:30 cat nap 30 min
6pm wake and dinner 3 tablespoons veggies
7:30 bath
8pm bottle 210mls
9pm bed and we usually get 12 hours
Hope this helps, every baby is different and every family is different, find something that works for you!!!

At that age DD was
6am latest - up and boob
6.30 bfast toast eggs pancakes porridge
8.30boob then sleep
10.30 awake then boob
11.30/12 lunch- curry/rice or pasta/ sauce or steamed veges with boiled egg - whatever I was eating
1.30/2boob then sleep
4 up and boob
5 dinner- whatever we were eating
6bath
6.30 boob
7 bed
2-3 overnight boobs
DD is almost 9mo and she dropped to 2 naps a few weeks ago. Some days she only has one marathon sleep! On days I'm not at work her routine is roughly:
6:30 - awake
Breakfast straight away (half a vita bix with her formula and a few tablespoons of puréed pear mixed in)
7:00 - the rest of the bottle (what wasn't used for breaky)
10am - nap
11am - up, bottle
Midday-ish - lunch (mashed veg, pasta, cruskits, whatever I can organise!)
2 - nap
4pm - up and bottle
5:30 - dinner (again whatever I have made)
6pm - bath
6:30 - story & bed
That's really rough though, often she'll be up for ages in the morning and sleep from about 11:30/12 until 3pm. I love those days :)
We just run with it, some days she eats everything in sight and other days she only wants bottles. She pretty much always eats breaky though, she loves it!
Thanks for all of your responses ladies, we have (mostly) dropped to 2 naps a day.. depending on the day. I appreciate all of your input :)

I have a 14mths old but i remember 8mths clearly as she dropped to two naps then. She wouldnt last long at all in the mornings. We also started giving her a bottle before her arvo nap because it just worked for us and i felt better knowing she was sleeping on a full belly.
8am - wake and bottle/also introduced a sippy cup
9am - breakfast 2 weetbix with cows milk, toast and fruit.
10am - sleep 2hours
12pm - Lunch
2pm - snack of yoghurt/cheese/fruit
3pm - bottle/sippy cup of formula and sleep 2hours sometimes more.
5pm - wake and play
5.30 - dinner
6.30pm - bath / wash and pj's
7pm - last bottle, story and bed for the night.
We still have this same routine now.
