View Full Version : Im on Visa 461 my husband is from New Zealand are we entitled to the baby bonus ?
Its very confusing trying to get a straight answer to the question and it will have a major impact on us being able to afford to have the baby. I am from the UK on a 461 Visa and my husband is from NZ so will be be entitled?

Does he have a kiwi passport or is he an permanent resident in Australia?Just got this info from the gov website;To be eligible for family assistance the claimant must meet the residency requirements. This means that the claimant must be residing in Australia and be:
an Australian citizen;
the holder of a permanent visa;
a New Zealand citizen who arrived in Australia on a New Zealand passport; or
the holder of a temporary visa subclass: 070, 309, 310, 447, 451, 695, 785, 786, 787, 820 or 826 or the holder of a Criminal Justice Stay Visa issued specifically for the purpose of assisting in the administration of criminal justice in relation to the offence of people trafficking, sexual servitude or deceptive recruiting.
The relevant child must also meet the above requirements or must be living with the claimant.

My understanding would be that your husband would have to be the claimant and would be able to but you wouldn't, have you talked to centrelink?
I thought it depended if your Hub had been in Australia as a resident on Australia Day, 2001. After that day, the rules got a lot tougher.
This was the case for me when I lived there, and gave birth. (I arrived in 2000)
From memory there are other threads about this but I'm on my phone so can't find them for you!
Just saw on the other thread from Jan that you would not be entitled, but your partner should be eligible for the baby bonus so you will get that at least!
