We want to buy a canon eos 550, just for our home use ( this partic canon for its video capability), what lenses should we buy. We are not very camera savvy but def will do a basic course to get the best out of the camera. Damn we missed out of the BH course!

Are u getting just the body or with the kit lenses?
It depends what u will use it for. Portraits, a nice 50mm f1.8 or f1.4 will certainly do the job. The 24-70mm f2.8 is a nice general all purpose lens... As is the The 24-105 mm f4.

It will be mainly used for tearing around after the kids, we will prob use it a bit more for landscapes etc when we get time. But it will be more to catch everything the kiddies do atm.
Meant to add, will buy the body and lens kit!

Id just stick with the lens kit then. They will do the job. When or if you feel like they are stalling your progression with photography then look at upgraded the lenses.

We use Digital camera warehouse to buy our camera gear. I would still consider getting a 50mm 1.8 or 1.4. It will become your favourite lens, especially if you shoot on AV mode and set your aperture to f2.8 or lower when you want to blur the background. It can't be difficult to get a good shot in really low light on AV, but great for shots when the kids are actually sitting still.
