We recently had a RAST (blood test) done on our 17 month old D because she has had really bad eczema and has been uncontrollably itchy.

The test came back that she is very sensitive to lots of foods:
Egg Whites
Milk
Wheat
Soya
Nuts
Fish
We also suspect that she may be reacting to some preservatives and additives as well as other things  .

We are starting her on a special high allergy milk formula and taking her back to a very simple fruit and vegie diet to see what happens. We just found out about her allergies recently and talked to a pediatrician about starting on a very strict diet today but my head is spinning - I am so scared of making her allergies worse or compromising her health by giving her the wrong foods.

I would love any advice from parents that have started similar diets for their kids.
Do you have any great recipes for biscuits, sauces or foods that can be made from non wheat products, have no eggs and can be made with a milk formula?
or foods that can be brought wheat free, eggs free and dairy free that dont contain any artificial preservatives or colours?

THANKS (from a very worried Mum  )

Oh honey, take a breath!

It is a lot at once I know. DD1 had lots of allergies and we had to take her back to a very plain diet and re-introduce one food a week. A Very frustrating and long process indeed.

Look in your local health food store for food supplies, also the health food isle of woolies, and book stores for recipes, even the library will have books if you don't want to buy any you can photocopy.

You can buy that egg stuff, it acts just like egg but it's not.... not sure what it's made of though.

You have to read every flipping label of everything you pick up! It's annoying at first but then becomes a way of life. DD2 has allergies also so now I do the same for her.

Good luck, it does get easier.:hugs:

Try http://www.glutenfreefavourites.com.au/catalog/index.php/ for some great foods that are wheat free, gluten free, egg free, soy free, etc. Orgran, in particular, is all of those things and have great pastas, cookies and cake mixes.

Good luck

My Ds was allergic to wheat, eggs and nut. Still is to nuts.

My allergist gave me a recipe book, with a few recipes in it. It also covers dairy allery and a few others I think. PM me if you want me try and email it to you.

I also had a book called Allergy Free Cooking for Kids by Antionette Savill. My Ds was diagnosed 2 years ao and I have seen other allergy cook books around but haven't bought any. Also contact the Coelic Society, they were very useful for helping find recipes and wheat free products. Ask your allergy specialists as they may know who to contact.

Good luck.

Relax Bub2luv :) It will be fine. I've been recently diagnosed to be allergic to wheat, dairy and nuts. I'm struggling but it is possible.

For bread, I only eat SPELT or KAMUT bread. These are wheat and gluten free. Kosher and specialty bakeries have them. Do ask how they make them. Usually they are made without milk but better to be on the safe side.

For pasta, I use rice pasta. For sauces, steer clear of white sauces. Tomato based sauces are a safer bet. Best to make them yourself. If your bub likes carbonara, make it with rice milk.

For butter, use Nuttalex (sp?) or just olive oil.

Hope these help.

my ds1 is lactose intolerant like me and he also is sensitve to soy. so he has never had things like ice cream on a hot day or a milkshake.
he spews when he has fish. breaks out in eczema with berries.and he reacts to coconut. overall though once you get passed the list of stuff he cant handle eating he is very normal and happy. i give him vitamins in the morning to be sure he wont miss out on good stuff and he likes having special milkshakes- formula and ovaltine mAx milk:laughing:

My DSD is ana to nuts, allergic to dairy and egg and intolerant to amines and salicylates and currently is going through the process of testing and introducing. Currently she has formula, rice pasta and celery as her diet as the green beans failed a few weeks back. There are multiple processes for introducing foods etc - ie Failsafe. I dont have a whole lot of recipes on hand but have a good custard which is ok with formula and uses Organ No Egg. DSD loved it while she could have it. I have a few allergy cookbooks at home and would be happy to look up whichever you are after. PM me what kinds of recipes you'd like and I'll do a little search. Good luck with it... :fingerscrossed:
